    Sunderland 0-0 Norwich

Norwich have looked sharper these past few minutes since that triple sub.

Sunderland are yet to go to their bench today.

  2. Postpublished at 64 mins

    Sunderland 0-0 Norwich

Josh Sargent shows good feet to make a bit of space for himself 20 yards from the Sunderland goal and then crushes a shot about 10 yards over the bar.

  3. Postpublished at 63 mins

    Sunderland 0-0 Norwich

Norwich goalkeeper Tim Krul has been getting grief from the home fans all day because of his previous spell at Newcastle.

He's not really endearing himself to them now by taking about half an hour over a goal-kick.

  4. SUBSTITUTIONSpublished at 60 mins

    Sunderland 0-0 Norwich

Norwich gaffer Dean Smith has seen enough.

Off go Danel Sinani, Kieran Dowell and Onel Hernandez and on come Teemu Pukki, Todd Cantwell and Aaron Ramsey (not that one).

The Canaries have now used four of their five subs.

That's unbelievable defending from Grant Hanley.

Crisis defending is good to see at times but it's not the kind of thing you want to see too much.

How has that not gone in?!

Ross Stewart clatters a shot against the crossbar from close range before Alex Pritchard sees his rebound well blocked by Grant Hanley.

    Norwich living on their nerves.

Looking at the replay, it's a brilliant bit of goalkeeping by Tim Krul to deflect Stewart's shot onto the bar.

  7. Postpublished at 55 mins

    Sunderland 0-0 Norwich

Marcelino Nunez is getting his eye in for the away side.

The Chile international sends an effort just past the post after Sunderland half clear a corner.

  8. Postpublished at 50 mins

    Sunderland 0-0 Norwich

First chance of the second half goes to the away side.

Josh Sargent does well to keep the ball and wait for support play before passing the ball back to Marcelino Nunez on the edge of the area.

His shot is crisply struck but straight at Anthony Patterson in the home goal.

  9. Postpublished at 49 mins

    Sunderland 0-0 Norwich

Norwich move the ball around neatly before giving it away cheaply.

Teemu Pukki is on the bench for the away team today and I would expect to see him on the pitch sooner rather than later.

    Righteo, we're back under way.

Who should Sunderland get to replace Neil (if he goes)?

Husaam Al-Astewano: Why would Alex Neil move to a struggling Stoke when he's done well with Sunderland so far and had a promising start in the Championship with them as well? Makes no sense to me. Am I missing something?

Tom Lea: I recommend the Port Vale manager Darrell Clarke for the new Sunderland manager.

The tongue-in-cheek thoughts of a Stoke fan there, Tom?

  12. Sunderland coping well with Neil absencepublished at 13:25 British Summer Time 27 August 2022

    HT: Sunderland 0-0 Norwich

    Michael Nelson
Former Norwich defender on BBC Radio Norfolk

What will please Sunderland fans most is the attitude and application from the players - they're winning lots of balls in midfield.

Both sides are just lacking quality in wide areas. Sunderland crosses are either going too far or being cut out at the front post.

Not entirely sure how but this one is goalless at the break.

The home side, being led by Martin Canning with boss Alex Neil set to be appointed at Stoke, have not let the events of the past 24 hours knock them out of their strike and on the balance of play and chances probably should lead.

Norwich have had their moments though and Josh Sargent will wonder how he didn't score when Kieran Dowell's low cross came to him at the near post just a couple of yards out.

All set up for a big second half on Wearside.

    Sunderland 0-0 Norwich

Sunderland win a corner after pressing Norwich into a mistake at the back.

Again it's half-cleared to Corry Evans and again his goalbound effort is blocked by a desperate Norwich defender.

This time Grant Hanley bravely throws his body in the way of the Northern Irishman's ferocious strike.

  15. Postpublished at 45+2 mins

    Urgh.

Jack Clarke totally overhits a cross over from the Sunderland left when he had all sorts of time and space.

  16. Postpublished at 45 mins

Norwich ending the half on top with a spell of possession.

Into four minutes of time added on now.

  17. 'Norwich need to use width'published at 13:13 British Summer Time 27 August 2022

    Sunderland 0-0 Norwich

    Michael Nelson
Former Norwich defender on BBC Radio Norfolk

It's quite congested in the middle of the pitch.

Norwich need to get the ball out wide to Danel Sinani and Onel Hernandez.

  18. Postpublished at 42 mins

    Sunderland 0-0 Norwich

Ooof, what a goal this would have been!

A Sunderland corner is cleared out as far as Corry Evans 20 yards out and he smashes a super effort on goal.

Andrew Omobamidele gets a block on it.

  19. Postpublished at 40 mins

    Sunderland 0-0 Norwich

    Oh heck.

Max Aarons is a lucky, lucky boy.

A ball played in from the Sunderland right should just be booted to safety or dribbled away from the area.

However, the Canaries right-back gets his feet in a right muddle and Ross Stewart is on it in a flash to force a corner. Could have been worse.

  20. YELLOW CARDpublished at 35 mins

    Sunderland 0-0 Norwich

Luke O'Nien is the second home player in the book.

Josh Sargent looks to race away on the halfway line and the Sunderland defender cynically hacks him down.

That's his fourth booking of the season!

O'Nien managed to wind up Roma boss Jose Mourinho with his tough tackling during a pre-season game, you may have seen, and he's continuing that into the season.
