Daniel: Finally a real no.9 who can score goals. We need to mount a serious challenge to the top 4. With the amount of chances we create Jesus should get at least 25 goals a season.

Shane: When I remember all the criticism Arteta has received in the past couple of years, Arsenal fans don't know how lucky they are. The guy has done a fantastic job and assembled an excellent team.

    Brighton 0-0 Newcastle

Brighton have done everything but score in this game.

That save by Nick Pope to keep out Adam Lallana's header was outstanding.

    Southampton 0-1 Leeds

The pressure is turned up that bit more now on Ralph Hasenhuttl. He was the bookies favourite to be the next Premier League manager to lose his job amidst noise of dressing toom unrest at Saints.

Boy does he need at least a goal from his side now.

  5. 'Top performance so far'published at 16:09 British Summer Time 13 August 2022

    Arsenal 2-0 Leicester

    Michael Brown
Former Manchester City midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

Leicester can score goals. There are still questions being asked about whether Arsenal are too naive and don't finish teams off when they get the opportunity. But it has been a top performance so far.

  6. YELLOW CARDpublished at 16:09 British Summer Time 13 August 2022

    Wolves 0-0 Fulham

Fulham midfielder Harrison Reed is the latest player to go into John Brooks' book after a clumsy lunge on Hwang Hee-chan.

That's 2-2 in the yellow card count.

    Close for Brighton!

They have started the second half strongly and Adam Lallana's header is clawed away by Nick Pope.

Moments later Solly March lifts one narrowly over the bar.

Alex: only 3-0 down to this city team with a midfielder in defence and a RB at LB feels like an achievement. Let’s see if we keep them to under 5 and I would count that as a win.

  9. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 16:08 British Summer Time 13 August 2022

    Man City 3-0 Bournemouth

City make a change at the break, taking off Phil Foden and sending on Jack Grealish.

If he does have a niggle, there is no point risking it as City have this game in the bag. They've also got a £100m man just waiting to take his place too, mind.

Bournemouth showing early, they'll most likely go straight back down. Which means they'll 100% take points off United this season.

When was the last time the Emirates was this happy?

Every Arsenal kick is being greeted with a roar. Will Gabriel Jesus go on and complete a hat-trick?

GOAL - Southampton 0-1 Leedspublished at 16:05 British Summer Time 13 August 2022

    Rodrigo

Leeds come out swinging in the second half and take the lead within a minute!

Jack Harrison's low cross to the near post is flicked in by Rodrigo.

That is two in two games this season for the Spaniard.

We can be reasonably confident about the direction two of these games are heading.

Three of them are very much in the balance.

The 3pm games are getting back under way.

Two teams full of confidence, but they’re nullifying each other’s qualities.

Brighton have created more, but only because Newcastle have been a little wasteful when they’ve opened the hosts up.

Saqub: Arsenal looking very impressive and with Jesus we finally have a top class striker who can score many goals. Great first half with Arsenal beating Leicester 2-0. I think Arsenal will be surprising many people this season.

Sarah: Glad Mr Vardy didn't get away with trying it on! Disappointed he's not been booked, though - referees really need to call time on his simulation games!

Nick: It’s great when VAR is used correctly. On first viewing it looked a pretty clear penalty for Vardy. It wasn’t until the replay you could see he was going down and Ramsdale did fantastically well to avoid the collision.

Dave: When are we going to reject all these euphemisms such as "he felt a slight contact and went down"? It's cheating. Never a penalty and should be a straight yellow for Vardy, and all the others who fall over in the presence of a defender.

  18. 'I wanted my stamp on the captaincy'published at 15:54 British Summer Time 13 August 2022

    Aston Villa 2-1 Everton

Steven Gerrard on taking the Villa captaincy away from Tyrone Mings, speaking to BBC Sport:

"I cannot control what is said outside Aston Villa, it is important for me to say that yes, we made a decision to change the captain, and I made that decision because I wanted my own stamp on that position. No one has taken Tyrone Mings out of the team. He was injured last week, he came back, trained really well and was really good today. Credit to him."

Leicester were 2-0 up before drawing 2-2 with Brentford last week. Do they have enough to battle back from a 2-0 deficit?
