Kev: Only 2 games in and already only 2 teams can have a 100% record. Every point needs to be fought for in the world’s most competitive league.

  3. 'You have to kill the opponent in a sporting way'published at 19:42 British Summer Time 14 August 2022

    FT: Chelsea 2-2 Tottenham

    Tottenham Hotspur

Spurs boss Antonio Conte to BBC Match of the Day 2: "We are working to try to reduce this gap between us and Chelsea - today was a difficult game and I think that with the ball we could do much better. But at the same time, the speed was good, the personality to stay in the game was good.

"We conceded two goals - for sure we have to improve, the first goal from a corner, the second goal we had changed the system to play 4-4-2 and then something was wrong positionally and Chelsea exploited this to score.

"We have to understand that in every game you have to try to kill the opponent in a sporting way, otherwise the opponent is going to kill you. When we started to understand this, I think we are ready to take another important step. But in only eight months I think we did a lot of steps with these players and I have enjoyed a lot of work with them.

"Last season I was really frustrated because in three games we showed zero per cent possibility to get a result against Chelsea. Now we played a game with a different confidence. We still have to improve a lot because there is still a difference between us and them.

"When you win and you lift trophies, you have another confidence and you know how to play some games and for sure today Chelsea were really concentrated to play against us. They played a good game but at the same time I think they found a tough opponent."

  4. I think we deserved more - Koulibalypublished at 19:39 British Summer Time 14 August 2022

    FT: Chelsea 2-2 Tottenham

    Chelsea

Chelsea defender Kalidou Koulibaly to Sky Sports: "We saw the really beautiful face of Chelsea at the beginning of the game, we scored the goal and we kept on going.

"In the second half, we took this goal that was a bit hard for us and we kept on believing, we kept on going forward and we got the second goal, but to finish this game with a draw, I think we deserved more but we have to keep on believing because we know we are a great team and we can do better.

"It was tough because we know Tottenham are a tall team so they could be dangerous from the free-kicks and corners and we had to concentrate a bit more at the end of the game. But today we are showed we are a good team with great players."

On his volley to open the scoring: "I was not awaiting this but it was an amazing goal and an amazing atmosphere with the supporters. Everybody was shouting my name and I was really happy, and I hope that is not the last one."

Here comes the Chelsea whining! You sometimes get the decisions and sometimes you don't? Both managers have not covered themselves in glory but Tuchel's incessant whining is getting boring.

I was disappointed with the Spurs performance. Honest fans will admit it was lucky, because of the referee decisions.

  9. Tottenham goals 'very hard to accept in times of VAR'published at 19:26 British Summer Time 14 August 2022

    FT: Chelsea 2-2 Tottenham

    Chelsea

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel added to BBC Match of the Day 2: "I'm disappointed because I think we deserved to win and I think both goals should not be allowed - I think both goals are irregular and this is very hard to accept in times of VAR.

"It would have been a huge win for us because the performance was absolutely brilliant, the way we played, how disciplined we played, but at the same time the intensity of the ball wins, the effort.

"I'm super, super happy about the performance but unfortunately we didn't get what we deserved today. I'm sorry to say but the referee had the decisive role today, nobody else.

"There was a huge step up in performance and personality from us, and in the speed of the game. I was impressed actually because I still don't know 100% where we are and what we can deliver but that was absolutely brilliant and I told the team that. Of course everybody is disappointed now but I think everybody felt how strong we played today."

  10. 'Everything that you want & what you hope in a match like this'published at 19:22 British Summer Time 14 August 2022

    FT: Chelsea 2-2 Tottenham

    Chelsea

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel to BBC Match of the Day 2: "It was hot from the temperature and hot between the benches and hot on the field and hot between the spectators - everything that you want and what you hope in a match like this early in the season.

"It was a brilliant match and unfortunately we didn't get the win that we deserved.

"There's no hard feelings [with Conte] - I feel like it was a fair tackle from him and a fair tackle from me. We did not insult each other, we did not hit each other, we were fighting for our teams and from my side there's absolutely no hard feelings. I'm surprised that we both got a red card for that."

  12. 'If there's a problem, it's between me and him'published at 19:15 British Summer Time 14 August 2022

    FT: Chelsea 2-2 Tottenham

    Tottenham Hotspur

Talking to Sky Sports, Tottenham boss Antonio Conte refused three times to talk about his clashes with Thomas Tuchel. He said: "My opinion is it's better to talk about the game. It was a difficult game for both teams and we try in every game to be competitive.

"Chelsea showed they are a really good team. Compared to last season we did better, but if we want to create problems for Chelsea [in the table] we have to be better.

"I don't want to comment on the [Tuchel] situation, this is not the most important thing. If there's a problem, it's between me and him.

"It's normal to come here and to suffer but at the same time we created chances to stay in the game."

Conte added that he didn't see Christian Romero's hair pull on Marc Cucurella.

  13. 'We probably didn't deserve a point'published at 19:12 British Summer Time 14 August 2022

    FT: Chelsea 2-2 Tottenham

    Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham forward Harry Kane to BBC Match of the Day 2: "It was a tough game for sure. First half was couldn’t good enough from our point of view, we just lacked intensity of pressing, lacked intensity on the ball and got punished for it.

"I thought second half we came out a lot more intensity in our play without the ball and it was great to get the goal back and disappointing to concede but always nice to score in the last minute. We come away feeling we are probably happy with a point.

"Overall we probably didn’t deserve a point from the game but we dug deep, we stuck in there, we fought until the end, credit to the boys, we had that last chance at the end there and managed to take it. Still stuff to work on but an important point away from home."

On the melee at the end: "I didn’t quite see what happened, I saw lot of commotion by the sidelines, it’s a London derby, two teams fighting for places at the top and sometimes things get heated and that’s just football. In these type of games sometimes it can just boil over."

  14. 'I don't know what the officials were looking at'published at 19:09 British Summer Time 14 August 2022

    FT: Chelsea 2-2 Tottenham

    Chelsea

Chelsea full-back Reece James to BBC Match of the Day 2: "I think we should have won the game. There were two arguable goals for them. I think the referees and the fourth official need to look back on them. It's frustrating for us when you deserve to win the game.

"I don't know what they were looking at, but we have to take the positives from the game. We were all over them throughout the game.

"I love scoring and I was in the right position. I just like helping the team as much as I can."

That point feels like a win for Spurs - and that's four from six to start the season.

The way they got this one will give them confidence that they can keep their tally ticking over even when they don't play well.

  16. Postpublished at 19:05 British Summer Time 14 August 2022

    FT: Chelsea 2-2 Tottenham

    Chelsea

Thomas Tuchel tried to play down his clashes with Antonio Conte, telling Sky Sports: "It's emotional, football. We don't need to heat it up. You have emotional coaches on the touchline and that's it.

"If we meet [later], we meet, If not, then not. Come on guys, it's between two competitors and nothing bad happened."

On his celebration for Chelsea's second goal: "In the middle of it I thought I should not do this but sometimes a match gets you totally, this match sucked me in. It was a brilliant effort after an undeserved equaliser. It was pure joy, and it may offend the opposition but they did the same when they equalised."

Awful refereeing in the end in my opinion. Did well to let lots go and have the game flow but pulling someone's hair like that is a blatant foul and at the very least a yellow card. They've opened up a can of worms now that's been allowed to slide.

You're dead right, Alex. Besides the challenge on Kai Havertz and the hair pull on Marc Cucurella, Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel also felt Richarlison was offside and obstructing the keeper's view for the first equaliser.

"We were absolutely brilliant," he added to Sky Sports. "Only one side deserved to win and that was us. Both their goals cannot stand.

"There was a clear foul on Kai Havertz and the situation goes on and on. Richarlison was offside and when can you pull hair on a football field?

"We dominated for 90 minutes. We were sharp, we were hungry, it was a top performance. I'm sorry for all my players that we didn't get the result we deserved."

    FT: Chelsea 2-2 Tottenham

    Alex Howell
    BBC Sport at Stamford Bridge

Thomas Tuchel will feel that both of Tottenham's goals should have been ruled out. The first for the tackle on Havertz by Bentancur and the second for the hair pull by Romero on Cucurella. After both goals he was furious and that hasn't been helped with the managers clashing.

Thomas Tuchel to Sky Sports, beginning with the incident that led to both he and Antonio Conte being shown red cards at full-time: "I thought when we shake hands you looked in each other eyes, he he had a different opinion. It was not necessary but a lot of things were not necessary."

Asked about when they were both booked earlier, he just said: "There was no problem."
