  4. 'Everything that could go wrong did'published at 16:27 British Summer Time 21 August 2022

    FT: Leeds 3-0 Chelsea

    Chelsea

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel, speaking to BBC Sport: "Everything that can go wrong, did go wrong. It started yesterday. We had no plane to arrive so we came on the bus. The players could fly but for the coaching staff it was a long ride on the bus. It continued today. We lost the game in the first 20 minutes, where we were clearly better and had huge chances. A lot of touches in the box but we miss the target and do not take what we deserve. We then stopped doing what we were doing good and it was even for 15 minutes and in those we gave two presents.

"We were clearly the better team. They do what they do. I don't see that a set-piece and own goal [Mendy's mistake] are due to the style. They are mistakes.

"If we give goals away like this that are totally unnecessary and when we are totally in charge we cannot win football matches. We tried second-half and I am disappointed we lost that half as well. They made the maximum of their half-chances and we did not."

  6. 'I love it here'published at 16:27 British Summer Time 21 August 2022

    FT: Leeds 3-0 Chelsea

    Leeds United

Leeds boss Jesse Marsch talking to BBC Radio 5 Live: "I love it here, I love our fans, our club. You have to enjoy it, this business is not easy.

"I felt like I belonged from day one. The team has to represent the identity of the club and the fan base. They are never out worked and never out run.

"The more we can build on performances, we can really build something. I wish everyone could see how hard these guys work every day. We have felt it in the inside for months now.

"In this league winning is never easy."

  7. 'We gave two gifts away which cost us the game'published at 16:25 British Summer Time 21 August 2022

    Leeds 3-0 Chelsea

    Chelsea

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel, speaking to Sky Sports, said: "At the start we were completely the better team and had huge chances but if you want to win the game you have to convert these chances. We gave two presents away and that was it.

"We didn't do what we had done for the first 20 minutes and did not execute what we wanted to do and what we had done at the beginning of the match and that's why the game was a bit stuck.

"We gave two gifts away which cost us the game. We had triple the amount of touches in the box but no shots and you can't score without shooting at goal."

  8. 'We got frustrated'published at 16:25 British Summer Time 21 August 2022

    FT: Leeds 3-0 Chelsea

    Chelsea

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel talking to BBC Radio 5 Live: "We could have closed the game down in first 20 minutes. After that it was an even game, then we gave two gifts away. What do you expect if you present two goals to an opponent in the Premier League.

"We give goals away from huge individual errors too often.

"It is what it is. This is the squad. My energy goes to the squad we have, we try to make the squad better, but if we don’t we fight what we have.

"It is the transfer period and things are always crazy. We didn’t see it coming. We got frustrated because we had a good start, created huge chances, but we got frustrated. We conceded the first goal and then after the second one almost lost the match there and then."

  9. Time for Marsch sceptics to reconsider?published at 16:24 British Summer Time 21 August 2022

    Leeds 3-0 Chelsea

    Alistair Magowan
    BBC Sport at Elland Road

Leeds did not manage a win over top-six opposition last season, but they've done it at the first time of asking this term.

It's not often where for one team everything goes so right, whereas the other suffers a complete nightmare. Usually it's a mixture, but the performances were so contrasting and the atmosphere was incredible from start to finish. Jesse Marsch had his name sung with gusto at the end as the American lapped up the victory on all four sides of Elland Road.

Is it time for his sceptics to have another think?

  10. 'We scored at a good time'published at 16:23 British Summer Time 21 August 2022

    FT: West Ham 0-2 Brighton

    Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton boss Graham Potter said: "The result is what we are here for. To see out some tough periods when he had to, create two goals and keep a clean sheet is pleasing. We started off not great and with their transition, they have big spaces and were difficult to cope with.

"I thought we scored at a good time but we weren’t perfect in the first half, it's not easy out there, it was hot and the pitch was slow, so to move the ball wasn’t too easy but the boys did what we asked an deserved the three points. There is always a different role you have to play away from home but the results have been better away so far.

"I like the first goal because it was a good counter-attack by us, they had the ball and gave it away and we were able to attack the space. I don’t mind how the goals come.

"We are just focussed on the next game, you can see how difficult it is with results this weekend. We are humble and we know how difficult the Premier League is. The focus is on the next game, and we will try and win that."

  13. 'A complete performance'published at 16:20 British Summer Time 21 August 2022

    Leeds 3-0 Chelsea

    Leeds United

Leeds United manager Jesse Marsch, speaking to Sky Sports, says: "It was a complete performance. We had a few different plans on what they [Chelsea] would look like and the guys did a good job of adjusting. We wanted to play with aggression but controlled and we accomplished our goals.

"From the first moment I came here I saw this was a special team. This [win] should mean hunger for us to want to improve.

"Our goal is never to be out-run or out-worked but also to add to not being out-fought and if we can add these things together we can build something. You can see it coming together almost right before our eyes. It's a good sign but there's still so much more to do."

Newcastle v Man City (16.30 BST)

    Alan Shearer
Former England striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

Eddie Howe would have liked more and better players but they're doing it in a sensible and measured way. There have been examples of clubs who chased the dream in the past, money spent and wasted like Everton for example. Newcastle don't want to do that, they're looking to do it differently, and the fans are happy with the way things have turned out. If they can get one or two more before the window close I'll be confident that they can finish best of the rest.

  16. 'Chelsea were swamped'published at 16:15 British Summer Time 21 August 2022

    FT: Leeds 3-0 Chelsea

    Pat Nevin
Former Scotland winger on BBC Radio 5 Live

Very few would have predicted that. Chelsea were very poor, like they were against Everton, but 3-0 is a huge result for Leeds United. Tactically they got it spot on. Chelsea without Kante were swamped in the midfield. They will get a lot of stick for this.

  20. 'A dream come true'published at 16:08 British Summer Time 21 August 2022

    Leeds 3-0 Chelsea

    Leeds United

Leeds United's Brenden Aaronson, speaking to Sky Sports, said: "I've dreamed about this for a long time and it's a dream come true and it shows how much progress we have made.

[On being told his team had ran further than Chelsea] "It shows who wanted it more. The crowd got us pumped up and everyone was driven."

Jack Harrison said: "We conducted a really good tactical plan from Jesse and we knew how important it was to come out strong and that set the tone from there.

"Credit to the tactics and production from the team as well. We set the tone today and have to aim for this performance every week. I know it's difficult but if we have something to aim for that's the motivation for us.
