You're always wondering how De Gea will cope with the pressure and whether he'll be composed enough to play the ball out to Varane and Martinez. He's taken no chances early. The atmosphere's great and the intensity has started really well. There have been a couple of challenges brewing straight away.

What a pressure night it is for the new Manchester United manager, having lost his first two matches. He met Jurgen Klopp on the sideline and they had a right love-in: there was a big cuddle, smiles and a slap on the back.

  10. Casemiro completes Man Utd movepublished at 19:56 British Summer Time 22 August 2022
    Breaking

    Manchester United

Casemiro has completed his transfer to Manchester United from Real Madrid, subject to UK visa requirements. The midfielder has signed a contract until June 2026, with the option to extend for a further year.

The Brazil international has played over 550 professional games, including 63 for his country. He has won 22 major honours in his illustrious career, including five Champions League titles and the Copa America.

Casemiro said: “The opportunity to start a new challenge at Manchester United and in the Premier League is extremely exciting. I have worked with many great managers in my career and, having met with Erik and heard his ideas, I can’t wait to work closely with him, his staff and my new teammates in the coming years.

“I’m ending one beautiful journey in Madrid whilst starting another in Manchester as determined as ever to win football matches, win trophies and make our fans proud by bringing success to this great club.

“Everybody knows the history of Manchester United, the significance of the club around the world and what it means to its supporters. To represent United is an honour and I am ready to give everything to help the team achieve our ambitions.”

Faustino: I hope Man Utd stop playing from the back for now.

Adrian: Great call to drop Maguire and Ronaldo, but should have gone more in. De Gea like Ronaldo is toxic at present in the dressing room shouldn't have let Henderson go.

Nick: All logic says easy win for Liverpool. Therefore it’ll be home win from early goal then backs to wall.

Tonight is so big for Liverpool. They slipped up against Fulham, who played very well, and then against Crystal Palace at home, when there was a moment of madness from Nunez. Will they slip up tonight? Is a point good? I don't think it is.

They need to build momentum. Of course they're not out of the title race but something hasn't sparked at this moment in time. You look at their midfield, that area of the pitch, and I just wonder if Liverpool will go in to the market for another midfielder before the season starts.

Their midfield looks a little light to me. Of course losing Sadio Mane was a big deal and, in many respects, he is hard to replace. But once Jota comes back and Nunez gets his head right, they'll have a good front line.

They can't afford to slip up too many more times against the so-called lesser teams.

  14. 'When you are desperate you pay over the odds'published at 19:51 British Summer Time 22 August 2022

Man Utd v Liverpool (20:00 BST)

    Manchester United

Former Manchester United captain Roy Keane, speaking on Sky Sports: "Casemiro is a good signing. It is a start but they need some more. The problem is for any player coming to Manchester United they are coming to a bad dressing room.

"It is a lot of money, he has a long contract. When you are desperate you have to pay over the odds."

  15. Sutton's predictionpublished at 19:50 British Summer Time 22 August 2022

Man Utd v Liverpool (20:00 BST)

    Sutton's prediction

If Manchester United win this game, they leapfrog Liverpool in the table, but that is not going to happen.

United aren't able to press teams with the players they have got, and I don't really know what Erik ten Hag can change with what he has got in his squad.

Liverpool have started slowly too, and Darwin Nunez's suspension won't help on top of their injuries. That leaves them a bit short up front, although Mohamed Salah and Luis Diaz looked lively against Palace.

Whatever happens, you just know Jurgen Klopp's side will outwork United at the very least.

Maybe United's players will run around a little bit more this week than they did against Brentford, but they need to find some heart. Unless something happens this week that triggers a change in attitude in the squad, I don't see it happening.

The home crowd will be willing them to take the game to Liverpool, and if they do that then they are in big trouble because that's when Klopp's side are at their best.

They won 5-0 at Old Trafford last season and it is going to be a similar story this time, although I am going to give United a goal just to lift their spirits a little.

    Prediction: 1-5

    Naby KeitaImage source, Getty Images

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp says that "there is no chance" the Reds will let Naby Keita leave without a replacement.

The midfielder has one year left on his current contract and has made only 76 Premier League appearances in four seasons due to injury struggles.

Liverpool are currently short in midfield with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Curtis Jones and Thiago all battling injuries.

On Keita leaving, Klopp said: "And not replace him? No, that’s not possible, of course not. But it’s not the plan. We are not dumb that we think a player can go and we don’t replace him. No, there’s no chance. So, Naby will not go but if he would – what he will not do – there must be a replacement, of course."

On his midfield options Klopp says he will only move to sign the "right" player who can provide long-term benefits rather than simply offering cover for current injuries.

Klopp added: "Now we have more injuries than we would have imagined and now it would be cool to have a new midfielder in, of course – but for now, and then we don’t know when the boys come back and the situation changes constantly. You can just not do that and then there is another fact: I am, we are, not in charge of what we can spend.

"That’s the situation and we get told things and then we deal with that. It was always the same and never different."

Jurgen Klopp v Gabriel Agbonlahor, the spat I didn't know I needed in my life.

The Liverpool manager said he almost called a radio phone-in after hearing ex-Aston Villa striker Agbonlahor's "unbelievable" comments on Manchester United's 4-0 defeat at Brentford.

The former Aston Villa forward called United "a shambles" on Talksport.

United host Liverpool at Old Trafford on Monday in the Premier League.

"What he said about United, I was close to calling in and telling him, 'you have forgotten completely that you have been a player'," Klopp said.
