    Man City 0-0 Nottingham Forest

Julian Alvarez has started on the right-hand side of Manchester City's attack.

He drifted infield from the kick-off but Erling Haaland immediately told him to go further out.

As ever with City, it's fairly fluid anyway - but Haaland plays through the centre.

    Manchester City 0-0 Nottingham Forest

City probe and Ilkay Gundogan has their first shot but he snatches at it from 20 yards and it flies well wide.

    Arsenal 0-0 Aston Villa

An early opportunity from a set piece for Arsenal as they win a free kick on the right side of the box but Gabriel Martinelli's delivery is flicked on and headed away.

    Bournemouth 0-0 Wolves

Bournemouth look to make a positive start to this game as they immediately go on the attack and Dominic Solanke runs across the edge of the area but ends up getting crowded out.

    Manchester City 0-0 Nottingham Forest

Renan Lodi is the 55th different player to appear for Nottingham Forest in all competitions since the start of last season.

That is unsurprisingly more than any other club in England's top four tiers.

It's going to be tough for Gerrard, everyone in the Premier League has got better, their squads have got better. It's going to be an uphill battle for them from here because they haven't started well but I still think Gerrard will be OK.

Give him a bit of time, he's a good coach and he's got good coaches around him. He's got good players in and around him, they just need to up their game a little bit.

  8. 'Villa fans can make noise when not happy'published at 19:26 British Summer Time 31 August 2022

Arsenal v Aston Villa (19:30 BST)

    Dion Dublin
Former Aston Villa striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

The start of the season isn't going to hurt anyone more than Steven Gerrard. He's a very passionate person. The pressure is even more as a manager.

You have to make sure that Villa play the game in the right way, get the right results and make sure the fans go home thinking their money if well spent. If you don't, Villa fans can turn on you and they can make their noise when they're not happy.

Mohamed Salah has scored twice in the Premier League this season but both goals came away from home and he is still waiting to get up and running on home soil.

History suggests tonight represents a great chance for him to do just that given he has scored in every game he has played against Newcastle at Anfield.

Former Newcastle captain Lee Clark has noticed a return to an "electric atmosphere" in the North East as Eddie Howe's revolution gathers pace.

Clark told BBC Radio Merseyside that Howe's team have given the fans "hope and inspiration".

"Everyone is together again," said Clark. "The new owners obviously have a lot of wealth but the staff and players have got the bond with the fans again.

"They're a really good side with some good players, even if they may be missing some important ones tonight in Callum Wilson and Bruno Guimaraes."

    Liverpool v Newcastle (20:00 BST)

    Sutton's predictions

We all think Liverpool are back following that big 9-0 win but Newcastle are a dangerous team. However, they are missing Callum Wilson and there is an injury concern over Allan Saint-Maximin, who would be a massive miss for them.

There is a possibility we could see their new signing, Alexander Isak, start. You know Newcastle will give it a go with how Eddie Howe plays but I think Liverpool will carry on at home and I think they will have too much.

    Sutton's prediction: 4-0

  12. Hammers heading for worst home start?published at 19:21 British Summer Time 31 August 2022

West Ham v Tottenham (19:45 BST)

West Ham could lose their opening three home league fixtures of the season for the first time in their history.

The Hammers are at risk of losing five consecutive Premier League London derbies for the first time since 2010.

Speaking on The Footballer's Football Podcast, striker Michail Antonio said: "We always believe in ourselves but you do have to actually get the three points.

"Every week it's a difficult game in the Premier League and it's just relief we've finally won."

West Ham v Tottenham (19:45 BST)

Tottenham have won 39 points since March, more than any other side in the top tier (W12, D3, L2).

Spurs have earned 10 points out of a possible 12. The only Premier League season in which they made a better start was 2009-10.

West Ham v Tottenham (19:45 BST)

    Sutton's predictions

Tottenham are quite strange really. They love to lure teams in and counter but West Ham got their first away win in their last game. The Hammers have had centre-half issues; they started with a back three against Villa but David Moyes' tactical switch to a four at the back won them the game.

You never know with Spurs. They can click but I think this will be a draw. I think West Ham will score with Spurs defending very, very deep.

    Sutton's prediction: 2-2

Arsenal are one of the Premier League teams who have a clear strategy when it comes to recruiting players.

They choose young players who have potential and can deal with the intense style of play that Mikel Arteta requires of them.

It’s clear that Arteta has been backed by the board and Arsenal are sitting on top of the Premier League after four games and unbeaten, which shows so far it has been the right decision.

It will be interesting to see if Arsenal make any more signings during the last couple of days of the window. They have been linked with Wolves winger Pedro Neto and also Aston Villa’s Douglas Luiz.

However, if they don’t Arteta will feel he is better equipped to challenge for the top four than he was last season.

Nottingham Forest manager Steve Cooper is one of those managers who likes to watch their team in the warm-up.

He looks relaxed enough and just gave a thumbs up to someone who shouted to him from the tunnel area.

I suspect he will be somewhat more tense in 20 minutes.

  17. 'Media want Gerrard and Lampard to fail'published at 19:15 British Summer Time 31 August 2022

West Ham striker Michail Antonio believes Aston Villa and Everton are easy targets for the media because of the profile of their managers.

Both sides have made stuttering starts to the season but Antonio believes Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard's reputations as players mean they get a heavier amount of coverage.

"Everything I keep hearing is about Gerrard and Lampard," Antonio told The Footballer's Football Podcast. "Other clubs are not referred to as much.

"The media are very powerful and these are big teams that are expected to be doing better. The fact is, both Gerrard and Lampard need time to work on their philosophy and keep building.

"Because they were superstar footballers, the media maybe want them to fail."

The Football News Show: How have Arsenal hit the ground running?

Arsenal's four-match winning start to the season is their fourth in top-flight history.

The Gunners are looking to become the 12th club to start a Premier League season with five victories. Only three of the previous 11 have gone on to lift the trophy.

Their five-game winning streak - including the final fixture of last season - has equalled their longest such sequence in the league under Mikel Arteta.

  19. Can Wolves end winless run?published at 19:09 British Summer Time 31 August 2022

    Bournemouth v Wolves (19:30 BST)

Wolves have not won in their last 11 Premier League games - losing seven of those.

They last beat Aston Villa at home in the league in April.

But Raul Jimenez has scored in all four Premier League games between these teams.

Manchester City can remain unbeaten in their opening five fixtures of a league campaign for the first time since 2018.

They can equal the club record of scoring multiple goals in 14 successive Premier League games.
