    Newcastle 0-0 Bournemouth

    Ashley Williams
Former Wales captain on Final Score

A couple of really good saves from Neto and earnt his money there. It wasn't even Newcastle's fault. Joelinton had a couple of good chances.

One of those chances is where he just lifted it right from a tight angle that hits the post. The other chance is when he drilled it low instantly and a good save from Neto.

  2. YELLOW CARDpublished at 45+1 mins

    Newcastle 0-0 Bournemouth

Joelinton, rejuvenated under Eddie Howe, strides down the left with his long legs and the Brazilian is then pulled down by Marcus Tavernier.

The Bournemouth player takes a flailing foot in the face but that is not going to stop him from earning a booking.

    Newcastle 0-0 Bournemouth

Both players are checked over and thankfully look fine to continue.

  4. Postpublished at 44 mins

  5. HITS THE WOODWORKpublished at 43 mins

    Newcastle 0-0 Bournemouth

    Newcastle hit the post again!

The hosts recycle a corner which Joelinton stabs against the post.

Then it's the Neto show, pushing out the Brazilian's follow-up and then flying high to his left to palm away Ryan Fraser's strike.

  6. Postpublished at 40 mins

    Newcastle 0-0 Bournemouth

Frustrating at the moment, Bournemouth are happy to sit back but Newcastle are lacking any cohesion or cutting edge in the final third.

Matt Targett's cross is...off target, sailing straight out of play.

Bournemouth are still looking dangerous on the counter. The home fans are hoping for a bit more… they’re hoping for a goal! We could have one coming but still 0-0 here.

I do like the confidence that you want to build your attacks from the back - I am all for that. There is a lot of risk to the way Bournemouth are starting their goal kicks and trying to play a little bit.

  10. Postpublished at 32 mins

    Newcastle 0-0 Bournemouth

Tell you what, you have to give Bournemouth and caretaker boss Gary O'Neil credit for the way they have bounced back from their 9-0 pummelling by Liverpool.

They're looking to make it three without defeat since that drubbing.

They look well organised and goalkeeper Neto is a commanding presence at the back.

  11. Postpublished at 31 mins

    Newcastle 0-0 Bournemouth

Half an hour gone in this one, Newcastle striker Alexander Isak has not had a sniff so far.

  12. Postpublished at 28 mins

    Newcastle 0-0 Bournemouth

Waheeeeey, shout the home crowd as Dominic Solanke gets an overhead kick horribly wrong.

  13. Newcastle pressing highpublished at 15:29 British Summer Time 17 September 2022

    Newcastle 0-0 Bournemouth

    Ashley Williams
Former Wales captain on Final Score

Bournemouth are literally playing out from the back, so what's happening is that Newcastle are managing to press high and started to win the ball higher up the pitch which is getting momentum for them.

  14. HITS THE WOODWORKpublished at 26 mins

    Newcastle 0-0 Bournemouth

    Close, very close.

The dangerman from set-pieces Kieran Trippier sets up and curls the ball over the wall, past the reach of Neto but it clips the outside of the post.

  15. 'Bournemouth look dangerous on the counter'published at 15:27 British Summer Time 17 September 2022

    Newcastle 0-0 Bournemouth

    Maz Farookhi
Commentator on BBC Radio 5 Live

Bournemouth are looking dangerous on the counter, particularly with Tavernier’s pace down the right. You can see the game plan from Newcastle is clear: get the crosses in from the left and right. But at the moment, Bournemouth are more than holding their own.

  16. Postpublished at 25 mins

    Newcastle 0-0 Bournemouth

    Now this is in range.

Bruno Guimaraes chopped down 25 yards out and Kieran Trippier has plonked the ball down with intent.

  17. Postpublished at 23 mins

Halfway into the opening period and this game is yet to really spark up.

    Who can provide the inspiration?

  18. Postpublished at 22 mins

    Newcastle 0-0 Bournemouth

Nick Pope really immersing himself into life on Tyneside, he's wearing a short sleeve goalkeeper shirt today.

Let's see if that is still the case when the rain and snow kicks in.

  19. Postpublished at 21 mins

    Newcastle 0-0 Bournemouth

    Eh???

Eddie Howe was wearing a black suit before kick-off, when did he get changed? Did he have to hide behind a towel in the dugout?

  20. 'Isak hasn't shown that striker's instinct'published at 15:22 British Summer Time 17 September 2022

    Newcastle 0-0 Bournemouth

    James McFadden
Former Scotland forward on BBC Radio 5 Live

Newcastle are obviously trying to use the threats down both sides, they have put some good balls in the box and maybe that’s where the difference is. Isak hasn’t really shown that striker’s instinct to get on the end of it.
