It's a brilliant touch and finish from Maupay. He swivelled and buried it in the bottom right-hand corner. The defender needs to be closer, you can’t let him turn inside the box, that’s rule number one as a defender.

James Drew: Honestly, what are West Ham playing at this season, after such a majestic turn last season? Very poor first half. Hoping them to settle back to winning ways soon, but not hugely hopeful...

  15. 'Fifteen-year-old Nwaneri such a big talent'published at 15:09 British Summer Time 18 September 2022

    FT: Brentford 0-3 Arsenal

    Arsenal

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta speaking to MOTD 2: "I'm really pleased. It's never easy to come here and win but we dominated the game.

"I said before the game that the game we had here last season was a bad day. it was a building character day. A team has to evolve and take the lesson and move forward.

"In different moments we always stick together. We had 12 first team players in training yesterday but I don't want to use excuses. But you saw today we had some kids."

On Granit Xhaka: "He has got this character and respect and admiration. He has had some difficult days which make him a better person and a better player."

On 15-year-old Ethan Nwaneri making history: "It's great. He deserves it. He has been doing great. He is such a big talent we want to keep with us."

  16. 'It's been simple for the defenders'published at 15:07 British Summer Time 18 September 2022

    Everton 0-0 West Ham

    Jonathan Woodgate
Former England defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

You’d describe the game as ‘casual’. A lot of the players have missed easy passes and when players can run forward at speed, they haven’t done. No one’s been tested, no one’s tried to run in behind the defences.

Coady and Tarkowski will be fine, they won’t even be sweating. They haven’t been caused any problems in their direction. And likewise for the West Ham defenders, it’s been quite simple for them.

Ready for a slightly surprising stat? Angel di Maria has been sent off 10 times in his career.

He has been dismissed for Juventus at Monza today (0-0 at half-time).

He has now been sent off for Argentina, Benfica, Real Madrid, Manchester United, PSG and Juventus.
