That's all from us on a very busy Sunday of Premier League action. Not bad was it?

We're back on Tuesday as Brighton host Nottingham Forest and Crystal Palace welcome Wolves. There's more midweek games after those too.

    See you then!

  2. Round-up of today...published at 19:26 British Summer Time 16 October 2022

Premier League leaders Arsenal held on to win at Leeds in a dramatic finish after the match had been delayed by about 40 minutes because of a power outage.

Mason Mount scored his first two club goals of the season as Chelsea survived a first-half onslaught against Aston Villa to continue Graham Potter's unbeaten start as manager in a 2-0 win.

Marcus Rashford sent an injury-time header wide as Manchester United were held by Newcastle United in a goalless draw and slipped three points off a top-four place.

David Moyes said the video assistant referee "needs to go to Specsavers" after being angered by the officials during West Ham's 1-1 draw at Southampton.

Liverpool put their recent Premier League struggles behind them to end Manchester City's unbeaten run in a 1-0 win.

  3. 'It was a game of real passion'published at 19:24 British Summer Time 16 October 2022

    FT: Liverpool 1-0 Man City

    Liverpool

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "Very important, we cannot be too picky in this situation. Against the best team in the world it is incredibly hard, but we deserved the three points with an incredible performance.

"Nobody could set a high press so you have to be smart, and we were, and you have to defend with a big heart, which we did. It was a game of real passion and we go there in the end.

"Joe Gomez was outstanding, he is outstanding no doubt about it. James Milner - come on, how many people thought ‘oh no Milner v Foden’? But he did outstandingly well, we had to find a few solutions but they all did incredibly well. You cannot get by even with nine good [individual] performances against City."

  5. 'I snapped - my fault'published at 19:21 British Summer Time 16 October 2022

    FT: Liverpool 1-0 Man City

    Liverpool

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp to BBC Sport: "Nothing to do with anything, in my situation you have to take everything. I am old but I am not tired, nothing to do with the general situation but the build up to today.

"Pep and I have no problem, we were talking and saw it the same way, how can you lead a game like this? So many flying challenges, players have to adapt and if it is allowed for them to do then good. Lets play football.

"We can only watch and accept what they do but in that moment I snapped, my fault and I hope we agree, and that on Match of the Day you have the time to look at that situation, and maybe somebody in the studio finds an explanation why that was not a foul."

  6. 'I deserved a red card'published at 19:19 British Summer Time 16 October 2022

    FT: Liverpool 1-0 Man City

    Liverpool

Jurgen Klopp speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live: "The game was exceptional, absolutely exceptional. Two outstanding teams faced each other, both wanted to win desperately, both fought really hard, both played football, both defended on an incredibly high level and in the end we finished off one situation and that's why we won it.

"With the red card [Klopp getting sent off], it was through the whole game, situations were happening and Pep Guardiola and I were not happy with the decisions that were made. On both sides you should not let those decisions go. Ok there were harsh fouls but too many and they built up.

"Around our goal I think there were three fouls. First on Mohamed [Salah], then on Fabinho, then on Alisson and in the end, now I've heard people say it's just because of Anfield. Wow, that is interesting because if three fouls don't get whistled and VAR is there to make the right decision, imagine we stand there and talk about the fouls that weren't whistled and led to a goal. That would have been unlucky but it was the right decision. Something snapped in that situation, [the red card] and I am not proud of that and I deserved a red card."

On disallowed goal: "In the end, the VAR looked and that's not right but I cannot understand how you do not whistle that situation. I just do not understand. If you look back at it you think ok, that's an interesting view that you let the game run in that moment. Absolutely huge win."

Arsenal fans have had a pretty decent day so far and they will be hoping for a double as they are currently in action with Reading in the Women's Super League. The Gunners have just taken a 1-0 lead. Follow that game here.

  8. 'We are still Liverpool Football Club'published at 19:09 British Summer Time 16 October 2022

    FT: Liverpol 1-0 Man City

    Liverpool

Fabinho speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live: "It was really important to win today in front of our fans after a really good game we played against Rangers. We knew City's quality for this game, we knew what we had to do and the team played an incredible game without the ball.

"We defended together, we knew we had to suffer a little bit but we suffer together and then after we created some good chances to score and then Mo Salah's goal gave us the win so we are very happy.

"Maybe [Liverpool played so well because the game was against Man City] because in a game like this, you always want to play your best. We know if you want to win against Man City, everyone has to be on top physically, technically and with the ball as well so we did it.

"We are still Liverpool Football Club. Of course it's not our best moment in the season but a win against City always shows what you are capable to do. We knew we had to win this game, whether it was against Man City or another team, we had to win. We showed the right mood and got the three points so that was really important.

"We have to keep this consistency and this was a really good game where we got three points against the best team in the league but we have to focus on the next game against West Ham on Wednesday so we have to rest and prepare because that will be a really tough game as well. We have to focus on the next game and prepare to be at our best again."

  9. 'We played the game how we should'published at 19:06 British Summer Time 16 October 2022

    FT: Liverpool 1-0 Man City

    Manchester City

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola speaking to Sky Sports: "It was a tight game and anything could happen. We didn't follow the movement of [Mo] Salah [for Liverpool's goal]."

On Manchester City's disallowed goal: "The referee came to the coaches and said play on, play on. There were a million fouls. But after we scored a goal, he decided it is not play on. This is Anfield.

"We had [enough] chances. We had some fantastic chances.

"All the game we were brave, we played the game we should play and I don't have any complaints or regrets over how we have done it.

"We had chances but not enough to do it. We made a good process to not allow them transitions. In general the back three was brilliant."

On how much the atmosphere helped Liverpool: "After the goal, yeah, it's Anfield. Before the goal, it was OK."

  10. 'This is Anfield'published at 19:03 British Summer Time 16 October 2022

    FT: Liverpool 1-0 Man City

    Manchester City

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola to BBC Match of the Day: "We did everything, we played really well and created chances. Most of the time we were really good but we made a mistake. They were so clinical and so good."

On the disallowed goal: "This is Anfield, in the Champions League three or four years ago, and we come here most of the time it happens. We have to make a perfect game and we didn't, we made a mistake, hopefully in the future we can learn but teams like this, [competing] in the Champions League, it is so tight and they punish you.

"The referee says play on, play on, play on, how many thousand million fouls he has almost given? But the goal was not given. That is the question, so when the referee decides to speak to the mangers, to Jurgen Klopp, to my assistant coach and say 'I am going to be clear, it happens all the time in that way,' then you cannot disallow the goal. But if you decide in the first minute fault, fault, fault... But you know, this is Anfield."

Pep Guardiola tells Sky Sports his side were "brave" and in general his "back three were briliant".

  12. 'We showed up against world's best team'published at 18:55 British Summer Time 16 October 2022

    FT: Liverpool 1-0 Man City

    Liverpool

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp speaking to Sky Sports: "Result, perfect. Performance, really, really good, in an incredibly intense game.

"We defended at an incredibly high level for 99 minutes almost. They had their moments but especially in the box we did extremely well.

"This was for us obviously big today. We showed up today and that is all we wanted to do.

"City didnt have these counter attack situations, we had them three times. The situation around the goal is just sensational awareness from Alisson and outstanding from Mo. He might miss one but he will not miss two in a similar situation.

"Goals decide the game but there were so many good football moments against what I would say is the best football team isn't the world."

On Diogo Jota's injury: "We miss the next one with Diogo. He felt real pain in that moment but I have no idea how bad it is. If Diogo stays down it is not good."

On his red card: "In the end, probably deserved, but you cannot have this situation. It is the clearest foul I ever saw in front of the linesman and he is not bothered. It is clear. They just watch the game but we [the managers] are involved."

On whether Mo Salah was supposed to come off: "No he was not supposed to be off, I wanted to speak to him. I did not know the number showed up, that was not the plan."

On what the win means: "Three points. We have to recover. Wednesday West ham is coming here and that is the next tough one.

"It was really good, it was the best that could happen here today."

  13. 'I knew a second chance would come'published at 18:53 British Summer Time 16 October 2022

    FT: Liverpool 1-0 Man City

    Liverpool

More from Mohamed Salah to Sky Sports: "This side is always hard for us, home or away, but the most important thing was to take three points.

"Our position is not the best and it is just one game so we have to carry on. Hopefully this gives us more confidence.

"I am not worried when there are chances, if I miss one then fine, they will come again. I worry when there are not chances.

"Today we created chances and when I missed the first I was calm because I knew the second would come. I just tried to stay focused and put it in the net because I missed the first one, and I got lucky."

People complain about Klopp but conveniently forget about Pep running around like a madman! Correct decision for the disallowed goal, Fabinho would’ve had control of the ball if Haaland didn’t have a fistful of his shirt. And a manager complaining about a blatant mistake by the ref is a red?! Madness! Anyway, the place was rocking start to finish. There’s no stadium on earth like Anfield. That's one thing City can't buy.

  15. 'The crowd tried to throw objects'published at 18:49 British Summer Time 16 October 2022

    FT: Liverpool 1-0 Man City

    Manchester City

Pep Guardiola speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live: "This is Anfield, every time you come here lately unfortunately this is Anfield.

"We played a really good game but this is a game where there are really fine margins and the mistakes are punished. We made a mistake and we cannot concede and that's why we lost the game.

"We played to beat Liverpool today, definitely we played for that. After 1-0 the crowd shouted but we shouted more on the pitch.

"The referee said played on, played on, played on, there were a thousand million fouls like this and this one is because we scored a goal. So they disallowed because we scored a goal, otherwise it would not have been disallowed.

"We lost because we make a mistake but this is Anfield.

"The crowd tried [to throw coins/objects] but they didn't touch me. Maybe next time they will be better."

  16. 'I am going to fight for title'published at 18:47 British Summer Time 16 October 2022

    FT: Liverpool 1-0 Man City

    Liverpool

Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah speaking to Sky Sports: "We don't have to think about the title at the moment, of course personally I love to play always for a title.

"In my head I am going to fight for it, but we need to focus more and take one game at a time.

"We don't have to feel more pressure that there is still a gap between us and first and second but of course we are going to play for a title.

"As players and a team, we should be in a better position, the players are excited to win and that gives us a good push for the next games."

  17. 'We showed a lot of fight'published at 18:44 British Summer Time 16 October 2022

    FT: Liverpool 1-0 Man City

    Liverpool

Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk speaking to Sky Sports: "It takes a lot to get the three points.

"It was always going to be very intense. First half I think we played quite well and we didn't give much away.

"Second half we had to defend a bit more but we won and that is the most important thing.

"For both sides it is a lot of running, a lot of communication and who wanted it more. We showed a lot of fight.

"If you drop a slight percentage they will punish you. It was important to get the clean sheet."

On the Anfield atmosphere: "It is always like that. When certain things happen in the game it can add fuel to the fire in a positive way for us. They [the crowd] played a big part and that is what we need for the rest of the season, especially after a difficult start."

Callum: Completely undeserved for Liverpool. Needed the official to win it for them. At least it keeps the title going a little bit longer. Might get Liverpool in a fight for the Conference League.

Lanre: Where are those predicting Haaland hat-trick? We’ve warned you guys over and over again never to bet against Klopp when we’re playing Pep! He’s not Guardiola’s mate by a mile.

Stevie B: Fancied Liverpool big time, no surprise. Some owe Klopp and his merry men an apology, mind. Why didn't Haaland play? Bit odd leaving him out of such a big game.
