  1. Who would be a football manager?published at 13:48 British Summer Time 23 October 2022

Four Premier League managers - Scott Parker, Thomas Tuchel, Bruno Lage and Steven Gerrard - have already lost their jobs this season, so who next?

"It seems every day a manager loses his job or their job is under threat," said Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers earlier this week.

"I think stability and patience seems to be running out."

Rodgers should know all about that as despite finishes of fifth, fifth and eighth as well as winning the FA Cup two seasons ago, he has had to face relentless questions about his future this campaign.

A "Rodgers out" banner appeared among the Leicester fans at Brighton in September, before wins against Nottingham Forest and Leeds earlier this month bought him a bit of time.

But, with the nature of football being what it is, he will again be facing those questions if his Leicester side end the day in the position they start it - bottom of the league.

  2. 'It's hard to make a compelling case for either side to win this'published at 13:45 British Summer Time 23 October 2022

    Wolves v Leicester (14:00 BST)

Chris Sutton's predictionsImage source, BBC Sport

Because Wolves don't score many, it means they always have problems even in games where they are on top.

Leicester have kept a couple of clean sheets in a row now, and Wout Faes has been playing well in their defence, but they have still conceded more goals than any other Premier League side this season.

So, it's hard to make a compelling case for either side to win this one - instead I am going to cop out of calling it one way or another, and go with a draw.

    Prediction: 1-1.

Wolves captain Ruben Neves has backed the club's decision to keep caretaker manager Steve Davis in charge until next year.

On Thursday, after QPR boss Michael Beale rejected the chance to be interviewed about the position, Wolves chairman Jeff Shi said Davis would remain in his current role and Neves, writing in the matchday programme, felt it was the right move.

"When we learned the news that Steve will remain in charge until 2023, as players, we were fully behind the decision," said Neves.

"We're really happy he is staying on as head coach and I truly believe it was the best decision for the club. After the start we've had, we need stability for the next five games going into the World Cup and I'm certain Steve, James [Collins] and the coaching team are the right people to provide that.

"The players have responded well to what they've tried to implement over the last three weeks and the win over Nottingham Forest last weekend showed that. They know the club, they know the players and they know exactly what we need to improve to change the position we're in."

  4. 'Gunners should have too much quality up front'published at 13:41 British Summer Time 23 October 2022

    Southampton v Arsenal (14:00 BST)

Chris Sutton's predictionsImage source, BBC Sport

Southampton helped to finish off Arsenal's hopes of making the Champions League places last season when they beat them at St Mary's in April.

This is a very different Gunners side, though. They should have too much quality up front for Saints to deal with, and they also have more steel if things are not going well.

Arsenal's mindset in their last win, against Leeds, epitomised that. Yes, maybe they got a break or two, but they also have the belief now that they can get through games even when they don't play well.

    Prediction: 0-2.

It's still very early. You can't write Man City off, Tottenham are doing their business quietly. It's still very early. Every team, throughout this season, will have a difficult period of games.

Arsenal haven't had it yet but it's going to come. You do worry about if they get injuries to certain key players. I don't feel they have the strength in depth to compete at that high level in the Premier League week in, week out.

Gabriel [Magalhaes] has done fantastically well, but I do still feel that Gabriel is a liability for Arsenal and one of the defenders who you would say is the weak link in that Arsenal team who will probably be responsible for one or two mistakes that could cost them a game.

Jesse Marsch tells me his six changes today represent a need for "fresh legs". No Tyler Adams, Leeds hope a knock at Leicester is an issue only "for a few days". Marsch says they’re "motivated and angry" and determined to put things right from Thursday.

"A big, big game" is how Jesse Marsch describes today's match in his programme notes. He's not kidding.

"We know our last seven games haven't been good enough in terms of the points return and that has seen us fall down the table," he continues. "However, I can assure you we are all working as hard as possible to ensure we get through the negative cycle.

"We have to stick together through the good times and the bad no more so than at this moment in time. We all need your support now more than ever, as being unified is what makes this club so special."

Speaking to people around the stadium and on the walk in, I fear that most have already made their mind up about Marsch. It does feel like a lot of the press gathering around me are here to write an obituary on his time at Leeds.

"The performance [against Arsenal] showed we can be very good when our style of play all comes together," adds Marsch in his notes. Boy does he need a display to match that today, with three points to go with it.

  9. 'If Leeds don't get their intensity back, the pressure on Marsch will build'published at 13:27 British Summer Time 23 October 2022

    Leeds v Fulham (14:00 BST)

Chris Sutton's predictionsImage source, BBC Sport

Leeds were absolutely awful against Leicester on Thursday. After watching them tear into Arsenal on Sunday, I thought they would get at the Foxes, but in the end they barely laid a glove on them and I was made to look pretty foolish for saying they would win 4-1.

Surely things will be different against Fulham, back at Elland Road, though? They need to be, because the Leeds fans made their feelings clear to Jesse Marsch at the end of the Leicester game, and he has taken only two points from his past seven games.

Fulham will have a say too, of course, and they will be lively with Aleksandar Mitrovic leading the line for them.

But I am banking on Leeds playing like they did against Arsenal or in the first half against Crystal Palace, getting their intensity back and finding a way to win. If they don't, then the pressure on Marsch is going to build.

    Sutton's prediction: 2-1.

    Leeds v Fulham (14:00 BST)

    BBC Sport at Elland Road

Fulham arrive in west Yorkshire full of confidence and eyeing the possibility of ending a second managerial reign in the space of four days.

On Thursday, it was their 3-0 win over Aston Villa that finally forced that club's board to swing the axe.

The Cottagers arrive here with four wins this season, which is just one fewer than they managed in the entirety of their last stab at staying in the Premier League. The win over Villa followed a 2-2 draw with Bournemouth.

You can probably predict the strategy... see out what is likely to be a lot of big swings early doors from the home side, lay a platform and ideally get that first goal to send this stadium into meltdown.

The weather could help. It's going to be slippy and slidey and set up for someone to make a mistake, especially a player with nerves coursing through their veins.

Aston Villa first team coach Aaron Danks, speaking to Sky Sports: "The message is for all of us as a club to come together.

"We are working hard as a group and hopefully the stadium will be rocking today and we can produce something the crowd can be proud about.

"It's been a physically and mentally tough week so we wanted to add some energy and freshness to the team. We also have a very strong bench today."

  12. 'I don't have a clue what to expect from managerless Villa'published at 13:18 British Summer Time 23 October 2022

Aston Villa v Brentford (14:00 BST)

Chris Sutton's predictionsImage source, BBC Sport

You expect a bit of a bounce when a new manager is installed, or at the very least you have an idea of what their teams' playing style is like.

But Aston Villa are managerless after sacking Steven Gerrard on Thursday. They have some good players, who are not performing to the level they can, but I have to be honest and admit I don't have a clue what to expect from them here under caretaker boss Aaron Danks.

Brentford got pumped 5-1 at Newcastle in their last away game, but they have recovered well with a win and a draw at home to Brighton and Chelsea, and I'd be surprised if they lost this one given Villa's circumstances.

    Prediction: 1-1.

Leeds United v Fulham (14:00 BST)

Having taken a chance on young winger Crysencio Summerville in the defeat at Leicester, Leeds boss Jesse Marsch pulls another selection surprise by starting 20-year-old Sam Greenwood.

He is one of six changes and is likely to play in midfield in place of Tyler Adams, who is not in the squad because of a minor muscle injury.

Rodrigo is in for Patrick Bamford in attack.

There are three changes in defence as Luke Ayling comes in for Rasmus Kristensen at right-back, with Pascal Struijk replacing Junior Firpo at left-back and Liam Cooper taking Diego Llorente's place in the centre of defence.

Leeds XI: Meslier, Ayling, Koch, Cooper, Struijk, Roca, Greenwood, Aaronson, Harrison, Sinisterra, Rodrigo.
