Oh what a chance! Alex Iwobi plays a dream of a pass out wide, Demarai Gray whips in a cross from the left and Dominic Calvert-Lewin can only stab a volley wide on the stretch.

Didn't get hold of the chance.

Gareth Southgate has his number one striker in Harry Kane. However, you've got Callum Wilson, Ivan Toney and Dominic Calvert-Lewin who are all finding their feet at the right time.

Gareth Southgate needs to look at these three players. I think it's good for the England manager to have such a headache at number nine. That's what they need.

Everton played really well against Crystal Palace. That was the first time I watched an Everton side and I saw a little bit of Frank Lampard there and the way he played as a player, the way he wants his team to play now. I think that message is finally coming across in his Everton side.

Aleksandar Mitrovic is not moving brilliantly well, James Tarkowski is able to sweep across and take the ball away from him very easily. We'll keep an eye on him.

  5. 'Pleased with attitude in a difficult period'published at 17:47 British Summer Time 29 October 2022

    FT: Crystal Palace 1-0 Southampton

    Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace Patrick Vieira speaking to BBC Match of the Day:

"Game of two halves, in the first half we were really good. Played some good football, created chances but couldn't score. We scored that one goal but we should've gone into half time with more goals and that is one of the sides of the game we have to improve. Came back in the second half you give hope to the opponents, they played really well and made it difficult for us. We needed to show something else and I'm pleased with the attitude we showed in a difficult period.

"The mental belief, 1-0 down they were still in the game. They played with more tempo and more forward, committing more forward. We started second half a bit flat and it became more difficult for us to get any momentum. We needed to defend well and the players who came on really brought positiveness and more energy to the team and that allowed us to keep a clean sheet.

"When we are in a good period in the game we have to score more goals. It's difficult for us to control the game from the start to the end. We showed the other side of the game when we were in a difficult situation - the team is growing and those kind of games and playing under pressure will give us confidence and belief and we will learn from those games.

"We did not make the right decision all the time and we have to keep working on that."

Battle between Lyanco and Wilfried Zaha: "Two players who play with a lot of character, competitiveness and all credit to both of them because they fight until the end and it was a good battle."

On keeper saves: "When you go through a difficult period you expect more energy from players who come on and keeper to make some saves, Vince the way he managed the game and the important saves allowed us to win the game."

On winning after taking lead for first time: "Good for mentality, we needed to improve and keep working on that. We put emphasis on that in the last couple of weeks, we know that's important to improve. The way we suffered today and keeping a clean sheet today we did well."

Not something Fulham fans ever want to see, Aleksandar Mitrovic is down and hurt. He landed awkwardly and needs some looking at. The sturdy Serbian is going to be OK though.

  7. 'Unai coming in is a reset moment'published at 17:45 British Summer Time 29 October 2022

    FT: Newcastle 4-0 Aston Villa

    Aston Villa

Aston Villa first team coach Aaron Danks to BBC Sport: "The league is ruthless and can punish you when you are not having good moments. The penalty was right decision. We knew they would have a spell of momentum and they were ruthless. The scoreline looks big and it hurts, but that is what the league can do.

"Newcastle were intelligent in the way they positioned their players. There were little tactical moments that hurt us. You have to find ways of staying in games in those moments. Unfortunately the game went away from us."

On the injury to keeper Emiliano Martínez: "I haven't had a chance to catch up with the doctor yet. Emi is up, he is talking and is showered and changed."

On Unai Emery taking charge on 1 November: "It's a reset moment for us all. It's his chance to put his mark on this team."

On his own future: "I'm not too sure."

  8. 'Chelsea looked unrecognisable'published at 17:44 British Summer Time 29 October 2022

    FT: Brighton 4-1 Chelsea

    Martin Keown
Former England defender on Final Score

Chelsea looked unrecognisable at the back. I think there were too many changes. It counts against you in this situation because you are trying to formulate partnership and it's always changing at the back. It was a different back three today.

They are wing-backs that aren't wing-backs. They played Raheem Sterling in a wing-back position today and I don't think it suited in the way they played. Maybe Graham Potter was trying to be too clever. Keep it the same and football is a simple game.

  11. 'One of the best of the season'published at 17:40 British Summer Time 29 October 2022

    FT: Newcastle 4-0 Aston Villa

    Newcastle United

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe, speaking to Sky Sports: "The lads really competed well. It was a bity first half, very stop-start. Thankfully in the second half we were outstanding. That is up there with one of the best performances of the season.

"I'm really pleased for Callum [Wilson]. Penalties are never easy but he put it away well. He was at the heart of a lot of our good football.

"It was an outstanding finish by Miguel [Almiron]. We hope the Aston Villa keeper is OK. It didn't help the game. Thankfully in the second half we were able to express ourselves better.

"Tonight I hope fans all enjoy themselves. We're already looking forward to next week."

Absolutely brilliant save from Pickford as he sees it late. The ball just pops to Willian who hits it first time and Pickford pushes off and saves with his top hand. Great save.

And another! Aleksandar Mitrovic now sees a header tipped over...

  14. 'Most important thing is the players'published at 17:38 British Summer Time 29 October 2022

    FT: Brighton 4-1 Chelsea

    Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton manager Roberto de Zerbi speaking to BBC: "It's a fantastic atmosphere, fantastic fans and players and it was a fantastic game. It was a great game against a great team because Chelsea have a very good and an important coach and players. I am happy.

"The most important thing in football is the players always. We can give information and advice to our players but they are the most important.

"We must continue to play this level of football. We have to think only about the level of performance. The results are important because they can change something in our head but when you work in football you can change something in the way you play not the result.

"Atmosphere was fantastic. Our fans were the best player on the pitch and it is very nice to work in Brighton. I am proud for this.

"We played well in the last few games. Now we are happy with the result but I was happy the same without the result.

"Robert Sanchez was fantastic like the other players. He is changing something because I want him to build-up more than in the past. He gives me total confidence in my style of play."

On booing for Graham Potter: "No I don't want to speak for this. I am sorry for these things. I don't know the situation of the past and I don't want to know."

  15. 'A cracker of a match'published at 17:37 British Summer Time 29 October 2022

    FT: Brighton 4-1 Chelsea

    Martin Keown
Former England defender on Final Score

It was a cracker of a match, end-to-end. Both teams steeped the schooling of Graham Potter. A lot of freedom in their play. Even looking at Robert Sanchez, he looked absolutely exhausted coming off the pitch. He wasn't man of the match.

It has to be Leandro Trossard or Pascal Gross who were magnificent for Brighton. It's their first win under Roberto De Zerbi.

  18. 'We were under the cosh in first half'published at 17:36 British Summer Time 29 October 2022

    FT: Crystal Palace 1-0 Southampton

    Southampton

Southampton captain James Ward-Prowse: "Game of two halves for us, first half we didn't feel we were at the level we can play at. We were under the cosh and Palace dominated us, we caused ourselves our own problems. Second half we did enough to get a goal but if you concede first in the Premier League you give yourself a huge uphill task and that was the case today.

"We turned the ball over too many times, we didn't have any sustained possession or work our way into the game. If you make too many mistakes in the Premier League you get punished especially against an attacking team like Palace.

"We probably should've been two or three down at half-time, we need to change that because we can't keep giving teams the opportunity to go so far ahead.

"First half was nowhere near standard, he [Hasenhuttl] didn't need to give us any words. We knew we needed to be better and we created some good chances but as always if you don't take them in the Premier League you get nothing.

"We should've got a goal, Che [Adams] had a few and Stuart [Armstrong] and I had a shot from range but they're the moments and if you don't get them then that's that.

"Important to get stuff from your home games, Newcastle in a fantastic position doing very well so it's up to us to go and get something from the game."

Very positive start by Everton, a great ball from Alex Iwobi. Calvert-Lewin darted forward, I think the goal last week will have helped his confidence. Very very good defending from Neeskens Kebano and he did very well.
