Six of Everton's 13 Premier League games this season have been goalless at half time, more than any other side.

As I said it wasn't dull but the first goal could be massive in this one.

Many of the houses on the streets up to Anfield are adorned with spooky paraphernalia for Halloween weekend, and these are two sides that will be hoping for a treat from a tricky tie.

Liverpool did claim a convincing win against Ajax in midweek but they will want to show the defeat to Nottingham Forest in their last Premier League outing was merely a blip.

Leeds, meanwhile, have slipped into the bottom three and not only is boss Jesse Marsch sick of losing, but he's also under a bit of pressure if the wins don't start coming soon.

On this elongated Saturday there's still one more game to come - and a grand one at that.

Half-time - no goals but plenty of action.

It's not been dull as we've seen 19 attempts on goal...

Fulham have scored in all six of their Premier League home games this season, netting 13 goals in the process. In their previous top-flight campaign in 2020-21, they only scored in seven of their 19 games at Craven Cottage, netting just nine goals overall.

Will we get goals in this one?

That's a chance - another chance! James Tarkowski is free in the heart of the area from a shortly-taken corner but can only plant a powerful header straight at Bernd Leno. He must wait for his first Everton goal.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin cushions a cross on his thigh and nearly links up with Demarai Gray but the ball runs on, before Aleksandar mitrovic does well at the other end to hold off two defenders and then win a free-kick.

Another big, big chance for Fulham. Ream gets on the end of it and it's just wide of that near post. Very close.

Still we wait for the opener but both sides are having plenty of efforts! Tim Ream heads wide from a good ball in but that was close...

Conor Coady pops up at the other end with a back-post effort but his side-footed volley is an easy one for Bernd Leno to save. The tempo just falling away from this one after that electric start.

It's very intense, for sure. Aleksandar Mitrovic snaps a shot off but it's charged down well.

Andrew Priestley: How has VAR not intervened there and directed the referee to re-watch that Mitrovic ‘challenge’ on the pitch-side monitor? That’s as red that a red card could be.

The referee gets that spot on as Mitrovic stretches and treads on Gueye. I don't think it's more than the yellow card that the referee gave.

Ah, that's a nasty one. Aleksandar Mitrovic stretches to win the ball back and stands on the shin of Idrissa Gana Gueye. It's a booking for the striker and Frank Lampard is not happy on the sidelines...

Huge chance, Gray's ball across was superb. Calvert-Lewin was about eight yards out, he opens up his hips and just completely misses the ball. He sees it a little bit late but as a quality striker, you need to get on the end of that with anything and find the back of the net.

Aston Villa

Aston Villa first team coach Aaron Danks to Sky Sports:

"It's really disappointing. The first half was an even contest. The penalty obviously gives them a bit of belief. We tried to tweak one or two things but they had a really good spell and punished us.

"There are a lot of sombre heads in the dressing room. There are things we could have done better. Newcastle are a team in form, a team that is high flying. We have to try and find ways to stay in the game."

On whether Emiliano Martínez should have been taken off earlier: "I'm not too sure. He is fine. He is walking and talking and showered."

On Unai Emery taking charge from Tuesday: "We have a little chance now to reset."

On his own future: "Next for me will be conversations with the club and then things will become clearer."
