No, I don't think Haaland's is a penalty and I'd definitely give a 10 to De Bruyne [suggesting he dived]. I don't think either of them are penalties.

And minus one for 85% of Fantasy players as Erling Haaland goes into the referee's book for an arm into the face of Mathias Jorgensen.

Shocking behaviour from City, they aren't firing on all cylinders today so they rely on their entitlements for penalties and fouls to change the momentum of the game. Well done Brentford so far!

    Tom, Edinburgh

Desperate from City here, playing for, and moaning about not getting, penalties. Brentford deserve to be in front right now.

    Dave, Dunblane

All the money, two world class players in every position, but all City seem to do is go down in the box and scream at the ref. That doesn't seem right to me.

  5. Postpublished at 34 mins

    Man City 0-1 Brentford

Kevin de Bruyne lays the ball off for John Stones on the edge of the box and the England defender looks to side-foot one into the top corner, but it's an effort which shows why he plays at the back rather than up front.

  6. Postpublished at 32 mins

    Man City 0-1 Brentford

There is another check for a possible handball, that's ridiculous, the ball hits the Brentford player nowhere near the arm.

    Get on with it.

  7. Postpublished at 30 mins

    Man City 0-1 Brentford

Half an hour gone, Brentford still lead.

Manchester City have had more penalty appeals than shots at goal.

  8. Postpublished at 29 mins

    Man City 0-1 Brentford

    No penalty x3.

    Brentford escape all three appeals.

  9. Postpublished at 28 mins

    Man City 0-1 Brentford

Kevin de Bruyne lifts the ball to the back post and then there is a real scramble.

City want a penalty for a shove on Erling Haaland, then for a handball, then for a possible foul on the Belgium midfielder.

VAR is working overtime today, it's all being checked.

Any other VAR officials available to help out?

  10. Postpublished at 27 mins

    Man City 0-1 Brentford

The decision is a free-kick to City, right on the edge of the box towards the right-hand side.

Rico Henry gets away with one.

  11. PENALTY APPEALpublished at 26 mins

    Man City 0-1 Brentford

Big shout for a penalty as Bernardo Silva scoops the ball into the box and Rico Henry sticks out his arm.

It's being checked and this will be given...unless it's outside the box.

  12. Postpublished at 24 mins

    Man City 0-1 Brentford

Brentford are holding firm. Phil Foden works a yard on the edge of the box but his right-footed shot it blocked and the rebound doesn't fall for a blue shirt.

  13. Postpublished at 22 mins

    Man City 0-1 Brentford

Rodri "can hit" them, we know that and he smashes one from range which sails over.

There was a check for a Vitaly Janelt handball in the build-up to that, but we go on.

  14. Postpublished at 21 mins

    Man City 0-1 Brentford

City are controlling the possession now as Brentford sit back and look to hold their lead.

And how about this? Brentford are unbeaten in 15 Premier League games when opening the scoring (W12 D3).

Gee Em: It looks like Brentford have learnt from Newcastle and Liverpool, you go at City and they do have a bit of panic about them. Not as cool and calm as when you sit back and give them the ball.

Richard: Callum Wilson will be injured for the majority of the world cup and Ivan Toney will be sat at home. Bizarre.

Naim: And THAT’S why Ivan Toney is on the plane to the World C….. oh

  16. Postpublished at 18 mins

    Man City 0-1 Brentford

    How will City respond?

It's almost the perfect one as Kevin de Bruyne swings in a cross and Erling Haaland nearly flicks a header into the far corner, but it drops just wide of the post.

    Are you watching, Gareth?

Brentford have threatened in this game and deservedly get the opener.

It's not pretty, but the Bees won't care - David Raya lumps one upfield, Ben Mee wins the header and Ivan Toney is in the right place to loop a decent header into the roof of the net.

    Etihad is stunned.

  18. Postpublished at 12 mins

    Man City 0-0 Brentford

A glimmer of an opening as passmaster Kevin de Bruyne feeds the ball into the box.

England international Phil Foden is looking to dummy it for Erling Haaland, but loses his bearings and gets his feet in a muddle.

    Chance gone.

    Phil McNulty
BBC Sport chief football writer at Etihad Stadium

What's happening at the back with Manchester City? That's twice they have been grateful to keeper Ederson for bailing them out.

And great credit to Brentford. I watched Leicester City sit back at home to Manchester City the other week and lose 1-0. The Bees have shown more attacking intent in the first five minutes.

The big question. Will Brentford regret not taking those chances?

  20. Haaland's 'absolutely flying at the moment'published at 12:42 Greenwich Mean Time 12 November 2022

    Man City 0-0 Brentford

    Ellen White
Former England striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

Since I've retired I really started to enjoy watching football now and I love Haaland so it's always nice to watch a striker who's absolutely flying at the moment.
