    Phil McNulty
    BBC Sport chief football writer

Everton are moving forward in their pursuit of Idrissa Gueye from Paris St-Germain and Manchester United's James Garner and hope to do both deals before the transfer deadline.

Gueye left Everton for PSG in July 2019 for £30m and is expected to return for a nominal fee while a £15m deal is under discussion with Manchester United for Garner, who has also attracted interest from Leicester City and Southampton.

Everton are also pursuing moves for a striker on deadline day, with Blackburn's Ben Brereton Diaz one of the names under consideration.

  5. Liverpool trying to sign Arthur from Juvepublished at 09:48 British Summer Time 1 September 2022

    Mandeep Sanghera
    BBC Sport

Liverpool are trying to sign Juventus midfielder Arthur Melo on loan today.

There is still work to be done to complete the deal but bringing in the 26-year-old Brazil international would ease the club’s injury problems in midfield.

Jordan Henderson came off in Wednesday's win against Newcastle United with a hamstring issue and Reds boss Jurgen Klopp says he will “definitely not be available” for the Merseyside derby against Everton on Saturday.

Henderson joins Thiago Alcantara, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain on the list of injured Liverpool midfielders.

    Manchester United

Antony: “This is an incredible moment in my career to be joining one of the most iconic clubs in the world. I’m thankful to everyone who has believed in me, especially my family, and all my coaches and team-mates, because I could not have got here without them.

“Playing under Erik ten Hag at Ajax was perfect for me and my development. His style of football and coaching brings out the best in me, and I am excited by what he has told me about his plans and ambitions in Manchester.

“My time at Ajax was fantastic and I will always be grateful for the trust they put in me, but now I am ready for the next challenge, and I can’t wait to join my new team-mates and play my part in bringing success to Manchester United.”

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport

Manchester City youngster Luke Mbete is set to join Championship side Huddersfield on loan.

The 18-year-old central defender made three senior appearances for City last season.

The England youth international was part of the Brentford academy until it closed down, when he moved to City.

Huddersfield enjoyed some success with their loan players last season and are looking to reinforce their squad after a difficult start to this term, which has seen them drop into the Championship relegation zone.

  9. Busy day expected at Evertonpublished at 09:35 British Summer Time 1 September 2022

    Phil McNulty
    BBC Sport chief football writer

Everton are well versed in a busy last day of the transfer window and do not expect this one to be any different - although how successful it will be regarded remains to be seen.

Deals for Idrissa Gueye from Paris St-Germain and Manchester United's James Garner are moving forward to a successful conclusion while a striker is also on the horizon with Blackburn's Ben Brereton Diaz and Watford's Joao Pedro touted.

Everton are desperately short of firepower with Richarlison sold and Dominic Calvert-Lewin injured. The success of their window will be shaped by what they do in this area.

    Breaking

Man Utd sign Antony from Ajax

    Manchester United

We knew this one was happening but it's a biggie nonetheless... Manchester United have confirmed the signing of Brazil winger Antony for an initial fee of 95m euros (£81.3m).

The deal, which includes a potential 5m euros (£4.27m) of add-ons, is the fourth most expensive signing in Premier League history. The 22-year-old has signed a contract until 2027, with the option an additional year.

  11. 'With Jorge Mendes, you never know'published at 09:29 British Summer Time 1 September 2022

    Guillem Balague
    Spanish football journalist

Paris St-Germain will confirm the transfer of Carlos Soler for 18m euros plus 4m in add-ons. The player is ready for a bigger challenge but wanted the club to earn good money for him with a year left of his contract.

Meanwhile, James Rodriguez went on his own PR campaign to get Valencia to sign him. He is a Jorge Mendes player, an agent very close to Valencia owner Peter Lim, so even though it sounds unlikely, with Mendes you literally never know.

Atletico Madrid are keeping their eyes open in case a Premier League club comes for any of their talented players, especially Yannick Carrasco, but also Antoine Griezmann, but they hope nothing will happen.

Another big name in the market is Raul de Tomas, who has scored 40 goals in two years, but despite the interest of Espanyol in selling him and his own wish to leave, no interesting offer has arrived. Fulham is said to be interested, but again no offer has arrived yet. Everton and Leicester showed interest but none in recent hours. A fee of 25m euros will take him.

Also, Oriol Romeu is waiting in Girona to confirm his move from Southampton.

  13. 'The domino effect should be felt' in La Ligapublished at 09:25 British Summer Time 1 September 2022

    Guillem Balague
    Spanish football journalist

La Liga has started the day hoping for things to happen so other things can happen too. Plenty of deals are half done pending on players being sold. The domino effect should be felt as the day goes by. For instance, Inter Milan and Barcelona discussed the possibility of Jordi Alba going to Serie A. That way Barcelona would go for Marcos Alonso with the guarantee they will not have three left-backs.

As Alba did not accept a move, Barcelona was considering to change their stance on separating the Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and the Alonso deal, something Chelsea was asking for. The striker is expected to move to London.

Hector Bellerin is waiting for Barcelona to release some wage money to return to his former club, while Sergino Dest is travelling to AC Milan for a loan deal with the Italian outfit.

Leicester v Manchester United (20:00 BST)

There has been so much said about Cristiano Ronaldo this summer I don't think anyone will be certain the brilliant Portuguese forward will be staying at Manchester United until the deadline closes.

However, the word from United manager Erik ten Hag ahead of their trip to Leicester later is very much that Ronaldo will be remaining at Old Trafford.

"From the start we said we planned with him," said the Dutch boss.

"We are happy with him, he’s happy to be here and we want to make the season a success together.

"I have spoken to him several times. We are all on one page."

  17. 'Fulham like a busy deadline day'published at 09:14 British Summer Time 1 September 2022

    Fans' view

    Dan Crawford, Hammy End, external

Fulham’s transfer window – as ever – has been a bit of a slow burner.

Two stellar summer additions, in the shape of Joao Palhinha and Bernd Leno, have already shown genuine top tier quality but Marco Silva seems frustrated at the slow pace of the club’s recruitment.

The head coach has done brilliantly to make Fulham so competitive in the Premier League despite a lack of bodies and injuries to Harry Wilson and Manor Solomon.

A winger and a centre forward, to act as an understudy to the red-hot Aleksandar Mitrovic, are vital, whilst Silva is still eager to add another attack-minded midfielder.

Fulham might have been able to hold on for a famous win at Arsenal – which would have been the club’s first in our history – had Silva been able to call on experienced substitutes. He has had to fill the bench with youngsters and, whilst teenage striker Jay Stansfield has taken his chance superbly, that lack of depth could doom any plan to built on Fulham’s fabulous August.

Fulham like a busy deadline day – and they’ll need a couple more signings to keep Silva smiling.

  20. 'The market hasn't closed from an activity point of view'published at 09:01 British Summer Time 1 September 2022

    David Ornstein
The Athletic football correspondent on BBC Radio 5 Live

Arsenal are looking for a midfielder if they can find a candidate because of an injury to Mohammed Elneny, on top of an injury to Thomas Partey and Martin Odegaard coming off injured last night against Aston Villa. Tottenham are chasing a wide player, most likely on loan, and Newcastle want a midfielder, most likely on loan.

Everton have made an offer for the Blackburn striker Ben Brereton Diaz, but they are not the only club in for him. Everton want James Garner from Manchester United. Southampton would like to do a deal, ideally for Cody Gakpo of PSV Eindhoven, who Leeds are also in for, but he could stay.

Wolves want a centre half. Nottingham Forest are probably not done yet, they want to sign former Tottenham full-back Serge Aurier. Liverpool would be open to a deal for a midfielder but they won't do it if it doesn't improve what they have.

I think the market has not closed from an activity point of view.
