Aberdeen are up to third in the Premiership after their draw with Ross County this afternoon, but the big news of the day came in the early kick-off as Celtic blew away closest challengers Rangers 4-0.

Here's a reminder of what a happy Celtic manager, Ange Postecoglou, had to say to BBC Scotland.

  4. 'I hope Lee didn't pop any stitches' - McAllisterpublished at 17:55 British Summer Time 3 September 2022

    FT: Hibernian 1-0 Kilmarnock

Hibernian assistant manager Jamie McAllister led the team in the absence of Lee Johnson, who had emergency surgery through the week, and was just happy to take the points in a narrow win over 10-man Kilmarnock.

"A great three points," he tells BBC Scotland. "It wasn't pretty at times and we made it difficult for ourselves. We created a lot of chances and just missed the final bit of quality in the final third, but we're still unbeaten at home, so we'll take the positives.

"It's always difficult playing against 10 men. I thought Killie did well, they caught us on the counter at times, they sat low in a good shape. We had many chances to put the game to bed, but we didn't take them. It's frustrating.

"Credit to the lads, they dug in, but they could have made it easier. There were times we didn't move the ball quick enough to penetrate.

"Lee was on the phone constantly. He just congratulated them. I just hope he didn't pop any stitches!"

  5. Livi reaction pleases Martindalepublished at 17:52 British Summer Time 3 September 2022

FT: Livingston 1-0 Heart of Midlothian

Livingston manager David Martindale tells BBC Scotland it was "really important" that he got a reaction from his players against Hearts to recent defeats.

"I felt we got that," he says after the narrow win. "We had to change the shape and, when we did, we were very good and caused them a lot of problems.

"It's nice to come out of the game with a victory because normally [Hearts goalkeeper] Craig Gordon is making these saves and we come away with nothing."

  6. 'We’ll play worse than that and get results' - Robinsonpublished at 17:48 British Summer Time 3 September 2022

FT: St Johnstone 3-0 St Mirren

St Mirren manager Stephen Robinson says his side paid for being profligate in front of goal and making poor decisions in defence in losing to St Johnstone.

“I think they took their chances, we didn’t," he tells BBC Scotland. "There was not a whole lot in the game.

"We had two clear-cut chances that we should score and we don't - they had two chances and score."

Robinson thought the hosts' opening two goals were "preventable".

"It’s hard to criticise the boys too much," he adds. "I think it’s just a lost opportunity in terms of our momentum. We’ll play worse than that and get results.

"At key moments, we got in good areas of the pitch and previously when we’ve broke we’ve made the right decisions - we didn’t today. When we had one-v-ones we didn't take advantage of them and didn't take advantage of our opportunities when we had them, so you’re not going to win football matches if you don't do that."

  7. 'Well should have won comfortably' - Hammellpublished at 17:44 British Summer Time 3 September 2022

    FT: Motherwell 0-0 Dundee United

Motherwell manager Stevie Hammell bemoaned missed chances as his side were held by troubled at home to Dundee United.

"I felt we played really well and controlled the majority of the game," he tells BBC Scotland. "There wasn't much in that game different than there was against Inverness, which we won pretty comfortably.

"I think, if we're a little bit more clinical, we come away with the three points pretty comfortably."

  8. Hearts suffering 'mental fatigue'published at 17:40 British Summer Time 3 September 2022

FT: Livingston 1-0 Heart of Midlothian

Hearts manager Robbie Neilson says the number of missing players played a part in his side's defeat away to Livingston but still thinks his side fell short of their usual standards.

"We should be coming down here and dominating the game for more than a 25-minute period," he tells BBC Scotland.

"We've been chopping and changing the back three and back four, we've had a lot of injuries. That's one of the reasons we're finding it difficult because we don't have a consistent base at the moment.

"I think there's a mental fatigue. We're asking the same players to go again and again. Hopefully, with five days before Thursday, we can get that freshness back."

  9. 'Another step' for United - Foxpublished at 17:37 British Summer Time 3 September 2022

    FT: Motherwell 0-0 Dundee United

Dundee United interim manager Liam Fox tells BBC Scotland: "I think it's hopefully another step today. It's a very difficult place to come. Motherwell were good.

"They pushed us and really stressed us and put us under serious pressure. So, looking at the course of the 90 minutes, I'm pleased we kept a clean sheet.

"The players were defending their box, throwing themselves in front of things. As a group, they worked incredibly hard. Are there things to improve on? Absolutely."

  10. 'We deserved something' - McInnespublished at 17:36 British Summer Time 3 September 2022

    FT: Hibernian 1-0 Kilmarnock

Kilmarnock manager Derek McInnes is not complaining about the early red card shown to centre-half Ash Taylor in his side's 1-0 defeat by Hibs.

"We have no qualms about the decision," he tells BBC Scotland. "We know Martin Boyle well enough, we know he likes to run in behind. We had to be smarter."

McInnes thinks his side "were terrific" after falling behind from the resulting free kick.

"We carried a threat, we showed good composure," he says. We played nice and organised, made good decisions. I'm so disappointed for my players that we've come away with nothing.

"We had good moments and good opportunities to get the equaliser. My team went right to the wire to try and get the point."

  11. Celtic will 'have a crack' at Real - Postecogloupublished at 17:33 British Summer Time 3 September 2022

    FT: Celtic 4-0 Rangers

It's been a long afternoon after that early kick-off at Celtic Park, where the hosts extended their lead at the top of the Premiership to five points with a comprehensive 4-0 derby win over Rangers.

No surprise that manager Ange Postecoglou is full of confidence heading into Tuesday's Champions League group opener even though the visitors happen to be holders Real Madrid.

"They're an unbelievable team with outstanding pedigree," the Celtic boss said. "They're champions of Europe, but we'll go out there and test ourselves.

"We don't need to change our approach to measure ourselves against the best. "We'll give our best, our way. That's the key. This is who we are now as a team and we won't change our approach.

"I've always felt the way to do that is by being yourself. We have to bring our own identity - that's the approach we will take.

"If we're not successful, we are not successful. But let's go down swinging rather than deferring to someone because they're a good team and changing our approach."

  12. 'It's nice when players come in and do well' - Davidsonpublished at 17:24 British Summer Time 3 September 2022

FT: St Johnstone 3-0 St Mirren

St Johnstone manager Callum Davidson is "definitely" delighted with his side's 3-0 win over St Mirren.

"I thought it was a really tough game and St Mirren have had a fantastic start to the season - they’re a really strong, well-organised team," he tells BBC Scotland.

"I thought the first goal today was going to be crucial and whatever team got it was going to be in the driving seat and fortunately for us we got it. We managed to weather the storm, a bit of pressure at the start of the second half, and got the second goal."

Striker Nicky Clark, the midweek arrival from Dundee United, opened the scoring, while on-loan Aberdeen forward Connor McLennan made an impact from the bench.

"It’s always nice when you see payers come in and do well," Davidson adds. "Nicky controlled it and then finished and then Connor with his energy got the penalty towards the end of the game and managed to kill the game off - it’s pleasing.

"The squad’s good, we managed to make changes that brought energy to the team when we needed and managed to see the game out."

James Craigen scored a double on his debut following the full-back's move from Arbroath, while striker John Robertson also had a brace.

Edinburgh are up to second, with Montrose also overtaking Airdrie after their 2-0 win away to Peterhead, who remain bottom with a point.

  16. FULL-TIME Ross County 1-1 Aberdeenpublished at 16:58 British Summer Time 3 September 2022

Just when the game seemed to be petering out into a dull goalless stalemate - and then to a narrow Aberdeen win - up pops summer signing William Akio to fire in a late equaliser.

The drama started when Luis Lopes' close-range bicycle kick edged the Dons ahead with two minutes remaining of normal time.

However, the former Valour striker stabbed in the leveller in stoppage time.

  17. FULL-TIME Livingston 1-0 Heart of Midlothianpublished at 16:56 British Summer Time 3 September 2022
