Slightly panicked there, City. Their movement tonight doesn’t look as fluid as normal. The player on the ball doesn't seem to have as many options off the ball.

It's pretty flat, the game is pretty slow. You wouldn’t expect a City game to be this slow for so long.

  2. goal

GOAL - Chelsea 1-0 RB Salzburgpublished at 21:07 British Summer Time 14 September 2022

    Raheem Sterling (48 mins)

The first goal for Chelsea in the Graham Potter era and it's scored by Raheem Sterling.

The watching England manager Gareth Southgate will be delighted as three Englishmen are involved in the goal.

Reece James releases Mason Mount down the right flank and he gets a bit of luck as his low cross isn't dealt with by the RB Salzburg defence and it falls to Sterling on the edge of the penalty area.

He takes a touch to set himself and produces a lovely curling right-footed strike that flies past Philipp Kohn in the away goal and the hosts lead

Alexander Meyer again called into action to stop the ball reaching Erling Haaland. This time Kevin de Bruyne crossed it in and Haaland would have had an empty net if the keeper had missed it.

Dortmund keeper Alexander Meyer is quick off his line to stop Riyad Mahrez's header reaching Erling Haaland.

Meyer only made his top-flight debut at the weekend, at the age of 31.

Really interested to see stats on how many times a game Jack Grealish receives the ball out wide, has a few touches then turns round and passes it backwards. I think the ongoing chat about his price tag is right. Is he really a £100 million player? Never been convinced

    Man City 0-0 Borussia Dortmund

Dortmund had one shot or fewer in the first half of a Champions League match for only the second time on record, after November 2018 vs Atletico Madrid.

Manchester City had four shots, their fewest in the first 45 minutes of a home game in all competitions since March against Sporting Lisbon.

Nathan Heelas: It’s like Tuchel didn’t leave last week…

LifaNati: I admire Graham Potter and I get that he didn’t change a lot of things because of the limited training sessions but his selection of an injured Aubameyang who is avoiding heading the ball is a bit of a mystery.

This is the most Champions League matches without a first-half goal on a day since 17 September 2019 - five games both times.

Only one game ended goalless that day (Borussia Dortmund v Barcelona).

  12. 'City have to be sharper'published at 20:56 British Summer Time 14 September 2022

    Man City 0-0 Borussia Dortmund

    Dion Dublin
Former England striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

Dortmund have played some really good stuff on the break. They haven’t had a lot of possession, just under 40%. But I think they've dealt with Haaland and the movement of De Bruyne really well.

City have got to be sharper in order to get in front and win the game. Dortmund have got to be a little bit more clever with their last pass in the final third.

HT: Real Madrid 0-0 RB Leipzig

To be honest, there are not many classics happening in the Champions League tonight.

All six 8pm kick-offs are level - Maccabi Haifa v PSG and Juventus v Benfica are both 1-1, while Rangers v Napoli, Real Madrid v RB Leipzig and Copenhagen v Sevilla are all goalless.

Madrid in particular have been poor, Leipzig creating the better chances at Santiago Bernabeu.

    Alistair Magowan
    BBC Sport at Stamford Bridge

A fairly subdued first half where Chelsea have shown flashes of what they are trying to do under Graham Potter, but it is early days.

You can see they are trying to play in Salzburg's half as much as possible, and Raheem Sterling might be the most advanced wing-back I've ever seen. Marc Cucurella has not been shy in getting forward either.

  16. HALF-TIMEpublished at 20:51 British Summer Time 14 September 2022

    Chelsea 0-0 RB Salzburg

Mateo Kovacic makes a charge into the RB Salzburg area and heads at goal. It bounces off the arm of Bernardo, but the arm was at the side of the body and the referee waves away Kovacic's pleas for a penalty.

And that's the half. Just the one shot on target - and that was for the visitors with Kepa Arrizabalaga saving from Benjamin Sesko. Chelsea, after 45 minutes under Graham Potter, yet to register a shot on target, despite plenty of good build-up work.

  17. Some more Messi recordspublished at 20:48 British Summer Time 14 September 2022

    Maccabi Haifa 1-1 PSG

Lionel Messi has now scored a Champions League goal against a record 39 different teams. Cristiano Ronaldo has netted against 38.

Messi is the first player to score a Champions League goal in 18 different seasons (every campaign since 2005-06). Karim Benzema is on 17.

If you’re a Dortmund fan and you know you're going to watch your team play, you wouldn't need to go to the gym would you? It’s like a full workout! They’re bouncing about and they’re jumping - they haven’t stopped in this first half.
