    Granit Xhaka

Arsenal take a deserved lead and it is a tidy finish from Granit Xhaka on the half volley.

Substitute Martin Odegaard plays it wide right to the overlapping Takehiro Tomiyasu and he finds Xhaka unmarked 15 yards out.

It's great technique from the Swiss midfielder, keeping the strike down just as the ball was rising and that's the lead for Arsenal.

Changes for both sides. England Under-21 winger Noni Madueke and Jordan Teze come on for Guus Til and Philipp Max for the visitors.

Now subs for Arsenal too. Thomas Partey and Martin Odegaard on, Albert Sambi Lokonga and Fabio Vieira off.

A chance for PSV, but Matt Turner is well placed to get his body behind the shot from Xavi Simons. That's the first real save Turner has had to make.

Another great run, this time from Eddie Nketiah. He picks up the ball on the left, cuts inside at pace, runs alongside the edge of the penalty area, but can't test the goalkeeper.

    Arsenal 0-0 PSV Eindhoven

Granit Xhaka plays a forceful square pass to Bukayo Saka, he jinks, creates space and shoots at goal from 18 yards out but it is headed behind for a corner.

That finds Gabriel Jesus at the back post, but the ball is just behind him, he leaps backwards back can't keep the header down.

This game is very winnable for Arsenal. Twenty-five to go. Can they get a winner?

Brilliant from Gabriel Jesus. Fast, direct, skilful as he runs at the PSV defence. He shots low, left footed but Walter Benitez does well to get down low to his right to palm it away.

It then falls to the Eddie Nketiah but he can't hit the target with the rebound strike.

We're getting towards the time when Mikel Arteta will be looking at some fresh legs to change things around.

    Arsenal 0-0 PSV Eindhoven

Arsenal get a free-kick 30 yards out but Granit Xhaka slaps it into the wall with Fabio Vieira firing the rebound well wide. Waste.

  8. Postpublished at 55 mins

    Arsenal 0-0 PSV Eindhoven

That should be the first goal. Bukayo Saka breaks through the PSV defence and only has Walter Benitez to beat.

It's not the best of finishes though from the England man and Benitez sticks out a foot to keep it out. Gabriel Jesus goes for the follow-up, but under pressure, can't get a shot away.

    Arsenal 0-0 PSV Eindhoven

Brilliant skill from Gabriel Jesus to get past a couple of PSV defenders, but that sends him off balance as he shoots at goal. It's on target, but dealt with by Walter Benitez.

A few niggly fouls from either side at the start of the second period and it's been a bit stop-start so far.

The players are back out. Mikel Arteta has a strong bench if he wants to change things around later on with Martin Odegaard, Reiss Nelson and Gabriel Martinelli among the options.

But no changes yet and off we go again.

By the way, in the last few seconds of the first half, Arsenal's Granit Xhaka picked up a booking for a foul.

Arsenal's defensive performance has been solid, so much so PSV striker Guus Til had just nine touches in the first half.

Goalless at the break. Arsenal have been the better team, although they haven't given away goalkeeper Walter Benitez too much to do.

    Arsenal 0-0 PSV Eindhoven

A rare breakaway for PSV and a ball over the defence finds Philipp Max in an advanced position down the left flank but his cross drifts harmlessly out of play.

It doesn't matter anyway as Max looked offside - and he was.

    Arsenal 0-0 PSV Eindhoven

Arsenal have a free-kick just outside the corner of the penalty area and Fabio Vieira tries to be cute and catch out PSV goalkeeper Walter Benitez by curling it in the near post.

The execution wasn't there though, it's well wide and slinging it into the middle or going across goal would have been better options.

More lovely build-up work from the hosts. Bukayo Saka skips away from a couple of PSV challenges on the edge of the penalty area, plays it wide left to Eddie Nketiah and his low cross aimed across the face of the six-yard-box is a dangerous one.

But only excellent PSV defending, sliding in, stops it reaching Gabriel Jesus who would've had a tap-in.

    Arsenal 0-0 PSV Eindhoven

Are Arsenal going to regret their missed chances? It's a superb corner swung in from the right by Granit Xhaka, Gabriel wins the aerial challenge with his opposite number six, Ibrahim Sangare, and the ball heads towards Gabriel Jesus.

Yet again though, the Brazilian is just unable to get there in time and can't get the decisive touch.
