  1. Ronaldo out of Chelsea matchpublished at 17:53 British Summer Time 20 October 2022

Some news from another Europa League side, Manchester United, who have just announced that Cristiano Ronaldo won't feature in their Premier League match against Chelsea at the weekend.

The Portuguese legend, one of the substitutes yesterday against Tottenham, disappeared down the tunnel shortly before the end of the match when it was clear he would not get on the pitch.

A Manchester United statement says: “Cristiano will not be part of the Manchester United squad for this Saturday’s game against Chelsea.

"The rest of the squad is fully focused on preparing for that fixture.”

  3. Premier League teams watching Gakpo closelypublished at 17:46 British Summer Time 20 October 2022

Arsenal v PSV Eindhoven (18:00 BST)

There will be a lot of people checking out the performance of PSV Eindhoven's captain Cody Gakpo tonight.

The 23-year-old winger has been linked with numerous Premier League clubs, including Manchester United and Tottenham, while Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta refused to talk about the Gunners' interest in the Dutch international.

"It's not only Premier League clubs after him," said PSV boss Ruud van Nistelrooy.

"His quality and form over the last three or four months has been exceptional. His stats and goals draw the attention of big clubs in European football.

"He is 23 and is focusing on his career with us at club level and having a great World Cup. He wants to continue that. When the time comes he will make decisions."

  4. 'When you have a chance to take advantage you have to do it'published at 17:44 British Summer Time 20 October 2022

Arsenal v PSV Eindhoven (18:00 BST)

As we've said, winning the group means you skip a round and jump straight into the last 16, while coming second gets you a two-legged home and away play-off against a potential giant dropping down from the Champions League.

That second option is something Arteta is hoping to avoid.

"When you have a chance to take advantage you have to do it," said Arteta. "You don't know what happens in the next game. It will be a really tough match.

"Where we want to be is at the top and the best team in this country.

"In order to do that you will meet teams that want to beat you and build that rivalry to a different level. We are already experiencing things like that."

It's a century of Arsenal appearances for full-back Kieran Tierney tonight.

  6. Van Nistelrooy praises 'very promising' Arsenalpublished at 17:37 British Summer Time 20 October 2022

Arsenal v PSV Eindhoven (18:00 BST)

PSV are second in the Dutch Eredivisie, one point behind leaders Ajax, have scored 35 goals in 10 domestic games and are managed by former Manchester United striker Ruud van Nistelrooy.

"They are a really good team," added Arteta. "What Ruud has done, the way they play, the amount of goals they score, they are really dangerous."

In his news conference, Van Nistelrooy said he relished the challenge of facing the Gunners.

He added: "They've had a great start. Ten games in the season, with nine wins, it's an amazing start from them, the way they are playing.

"Arteta is developing his team with his style of play and he has done well with a young side - it's a very promising team that's a joy to watch.

"It's a fantastic opportunity for us to come here and test ourselves."

Ruud van Nistelrooy joked that Arsenal fans should give him a "warm welcome" at Emirates Stadium - for helping the unbeaten 2003-04 'Invincibles' create history.

The PSV Eindhoven coach returns to Arsenal when his side face the Gunners in the Europa League.

As a player, Van Nistelrooy scored an impressive 150 goals in five seasons at Manchester United from 2001. Yet arguably, it is a miss he is most famous for.

His last minute spot-kick failure against Arsenal in a 0-0 Premier League draw at Old Trafford in September 2003 was followed by an over-the-top reaction from Gunners defender Martin Keown, who was one of five players sanctioned for the melee that followed.

Keown, who celebrated the miss in Van Nistelrooy's face, was banned for three games and given a £20,000 fine by the Football Association.

The miss, in the sixth game of the season, allowed them to reach the end of the campaign as the only side to finish a 38-game top-flight season without a single defeat.

"I expect a warm welcome," he said. "I kept them invincible because of my miss."

  8. How it standspublished at 17:30 British Summer Time 20 October 2022

Arsenal v PSV Eindhoven (18:00 BST)

So far in this Europa League campaign, Arsenal won 2-1 at FC Zurich, then beat Bodo Glimt 3-0 at Emirates Stadium before winning the reverse tie 1-0.

The Gunners will reach the knockout phase with a draw, while victory would take them close to winning Group A.

The Europa League group winners advance into the last 16 in March, but the runners-up will have a two-legged play-off in February against a side that finishes third in the Champions League groups.

As it stands, potential opponents for Europa League runners-up include Ajax, Atletico Madrid, Barcelona, Juventus and AC Milan.

If Arsenal beat PSV then the Gunners would only need a draw in the rematch in the Netherlands on 27 October to finish top of the group.

PSV Eindhoven have been in great form, beating FC Zurich 5-0 and then thrashing Utrecht 6-1 at the weekend so it is no surprise that Ruud van Nistelrooy names the same starting 11 from the win against Utrecht.

Their subs include Ki-Jana Hoever and Jarrad Branthwaite, on loan from Wolves and Everton respectively, former Aston Villa midfielder Anwar El Ghazi and England Under-21 winger Noni Madueke, who came through the ranks at first Crystal Palace and then Tottenham before joining PSV.

PSV Eindhoven XI: Benitez, Max, Obispo, Ramalho, Mwene, Gutierrez, Sangare, Gakpo, Veerman, Simons, Til.

Subs: Drommel, Waterman, Teze, Hoever, De Jong, El Ghazi, Branthwaite, Bakayoko, Ledezma, Madueke, Mauro Jr.

  12. Thanks for joining uspublished at 17:18 British Summer Time 20 October 2022

Hello and welcome along to BBC Sport's coverage of the Europa League match between Arsenal and PSV Eindhoven with kick-off at 18:00 BST.

This game was due to be played on 15 September but was postponed because of "severe limitations on police resources" following the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

Premier League leaders Arsenal are top of the group with three wins from three games, scoring six times and only conceding once, while PSV are second with two victories and a draw from their three matches.

The Gunners were expected to be facing Manchester City in the Premier League this midweek but that has been postponed to fit in this European tie instead.
