Sunderland and Wigan have both made solid starts to the campaign after winning promotion from League One last season. The Black Cats have recovered well after Alex Neil's slightly surprising defection to Stoke, while the Latics claimed a first home win of the season in midweek.

It's a meeting of two mid-table sides at Ashton Gate, where Bristol City host Millwall. The visitors are yet to win away in the league this season, while the Robins earned a crucial victory over Preston in midweek to end a barren spell.

Cardiff are finding form under interim boss Mark Hudson, with seven points from three games, and host a Coventry side who are four points adrift at the bottom - albeit with games in hand on everyone else in the league.

We've finally started to see a few goals in games involving Preston - they're looking for consecutive home league wins for the first time under Ryan Lowe, but Stoke are unbeaten in three away and beat leaders Sheffield United in midweek.

    Salford v Bradford

    Charles Commins

Salford and Bradford find themselves in the play-off spots as they face off at the Peninsula Stadium this afternoon. Both have been on a good run of form of late and their results have seen them reel in the top three.

Both teams have received "must do better" on their report cards at their last few parents’ evenings but it looks like they’ve finally started listening to the teacher.

Don’t let last week’s defeat at home to Stockport fool you, Bradford are a force to be reckoned with this season. Striker Andy Cook was on his way out of Valley Parade last year but has nabbed himself an impressive nine goals so far, scoring every 87 minutes.

Salford may not have a leading marksman - their top scorer is Ryan Watson on just three - but they have found some form, beating fellow promotion contenders Northampton last weekend. They have only managed back-to-back wins in the league once this season though so this game will no doubt be a test for the Ammies.

    Sheffield United v Blackpool

It's been a rough few weeks for Championship leaders Sheffield United.

The Blades have lost their past two games and will be without influential midfielder Sander Berge until after the World Cup.

Michael Appleton's Blackpool made a slow start to the season but will be buoyed by last week's 3-1 win over Watford.

    Middlesbrough v Blackburn

    Blackburn coachesImage source, PA Media

It's been a disastrous start to the season for Middlesbrough, who had been one of the pre-season favourites to win promotion.

Boss Chris Wilder was sacked two weeks ago with the club in the relegation zone and first-team coach Leo Percovich has been placed in caretaker charge.

The Uruguayan has said he wants the job full-time but he'll need to pick up points today if that's to be the case.

Opponents Blackburn have been the very model of inconsistency.

Their past nine league results look like this: lost, won, lost, won, lost, won, lost, won, lost.

On that basis it should be an away win today...

    Accrington v Derby

This is going to be an entertaining match, I guarantee. Two teams that enjoy the attacking side of the game.

Accrington Stanley welcome Derby County to the Wham Stadium in the first league meeting since Accrington reformed in 1968. It’s a game that Stanley assistant Jimmy Bell says their team will "relish". They lost 3-0 to league leaders Plymouth but they had won their previous three games, so I’m expecting a reaction.

The away side are without their top scorer and main man James Collins as he starts a three-match ban, following his straight red card last Saturday in the Rams' defeat to Port Vale.

However, club captain Curtis Davies and experienced Korey Smith are back in the squad, which will be a big boost County manager Paul Warne.

It’s a fixture that speaks volumes about the recent history of both clubs but it certainly embodies the EFL!

    Reading v West Brom

West Brom playersImage source, PA Media

It wasn't a great surprise to anyone when West Brom parted company with manager Steve Bruce on Monday after eight months in charge.

The Baggies are on a wretched run with no wins in their last nine games which has seen them drop to 22nd. For a team expected to be pushing for promotion it simply hasn't been good enough.

It's still relatively early in the season so there is time for West Brom to turn their fortunes around but with no replacement announced for Bruce yet, Richard Beale takes charge of the game this afternoon.

They are up against a Reading side who have enjoyed a much more positive start to the season and sit in fifth.

QPR handed the Royals their first defeat in four games last time out in a game when Andy Carroll netted his first football league goal since April.

The X43 ‘Witch Way’ bus links Manchester to Burnley. It’s named after the legend of the Pendle Witches, put on trial and sent to their death for suspected sorcery in the 17th century. It’s too soon for a double decker to bear his name, but the latest Manchester-Burnley link is working his own magic at Turf Moor.

Vincent Kompany has moved big names on and replaced them with players from his native Belgium and fresh faces from his old side, Manchester City. So far, this potent concoction of young talent with established pros has seen them 11 games unbeaten.

Nathan Tella has been instrumental for the Clarets. His winner against Coventry City encapsulated his game perfectly. His speed of thought, pace and finishing has dovetailed neatly with veteran Jay Rodriguez.

Michael Obafemi was left out as Burnley tried and failed to sign the 22-year-old earlier in the season. He returned with a late winner against West Brom and the Irishman has the chance to showcase his talents at Turf Moor.

Russell Martin’s side are looking for a fifth straight win and after much trying, it looks like he has finally got this team playing his way. They can be relentless in attack but still have defensive frailties that should make this an exciting contest.

We started ragged in the second half and we continued that way.

We didn't make the most of the situations we had when we were on top.

Harrogate 2-1 Hartlepool, Mansfield 1-1 Walsall

Josh Umerah's dinked finish pulled one back for Hartlepool but they've lost 2-1 at fellow strugglers Harrogate, who did the damage in the first half.

It remains 1-1 between Mansfield and Walsall, where there are about 15 minutes of normal time remaining.

Rotherham claim their first win under Matt Taylor.

Sub Georgie Kelly's goal, less than three minutes after coming on, gives them a big three points.

The home side had taken the lead through Conor Washington's quality strike before Danny Ward quickly levelled with a first-time shot from a corner routine.

The game's quality dipped after the break but Kelly popped up to grab a winner.

Huddersfield's record of losing every game they have conceded first in continues and they remain in the relegation zone.

All over at Kenilworth Road and the Hatters take the points.

Elijah Adebayo's goal saw them lead early on and Jimmy Dunne's 77th-minute own goal made it 2-0 before a crazy ending which saw Osman Kakay pull an injury time goal back and then Luke Freeman secure the points after 93 minutes.

Luton are now unbeaten in six in a run which has seen them jump into the playoff spots.

QPR could have gone top today with only a draw, but they leave empty-handed and will look to regroup next time out.

    Four minutes of added time.
