It's a super and clinical finish that comes from the hard press of the USA.
Sophia Smith (27 mins)
A bit of a gift.
Millie Bright passes out from the back to an under-pressure Georgia Stanway who is facing her own goal and can't quite get it under control.
Eventually the ball finds its way to the feet of Sophia Smith, who has looked like the USA's most imposing player so far, and she finishes sweetly into the bottom corner past Mary Earps.
Good finish.
England 1-0 USA
England are enjoying a spell of possession, just passing it along the backline comfortably.
Keira Walsh eventually lofts one over the top to Fran Kirby but Naomi Girma manages to hustle it out of play.

Former England defender on BBC Radio 5 Live
Sophia Smith's movement upfront for the USA is so dynamic.
She accelerates at such a speed that Millie Bright and Alex Greenwood are going to have to be very vigilant.
England 1-0 USA
Georgia Stanway clears the ball and Emily Fox seems to run straight into her and takes a bit of a blow to the face. She can't recover from it and is going to have to come off at this early stage in the game.
Hailie Mace is on in her place.

Keith: Beth Mead best player in the world?
England 1-0 USA
We are back underway after a quick check over by the medical team for Lauren Hemp. Thankfully that wasn't too serious.
The USA are straight on the attack and after a bit of a goal-mouth scramble England recover. Mary Earps and Millie Bright were in a bit of a tangle, there.

The set-piece coach will be impressed by Lauren Hemp because there's no greater block than taking one to the face.
It's the first rule of being apart of the wall!
England 1-0 USA

The USA are playing very direct. They are testing England's back four with early balls in behind. It's not comfortable but England have handled it fairly well. Going forward, England look like they can do damage every time.
England 1-0 USA
The camera keeps panning to captain Leah Williamson who is watching on eagle-eyed from the stands.
She's got crutches in front of her and she will be gutted to be missing out on this one.
England 1-0 USA
Not a good delivery from Megan Rapinoe, who is making her 195th appearance for the USA.
The ball smacks straight into Lauren Hemp's face and she just needs a moment to be checked out by the docs.
England 1-0 USA
Stephen Warnock
Former England defender on BBC Radio 5 Live
My initial thought was it was in the box and it was a penalty.
I'm glad I'm not in the VAR box!
England 1-0 USA
Rachel Daly takes a bad touch on the edge of her penalty area and brings down Sophia Smith while trying to recover. The USA have a free-kick in a pretty dangerous area.
Can they do something with this?
England 1-0 USA

The ball in from Beth Mead was just delicious too!
England 1-0 USA
The USA are just looking a little bit sloppy here as England try to build on that positive momentum.
The hosts couldn't have asked for a better start and the Lionesses continue to press.
The USA are hemmed into their own half as England move the ball around them.

What a moment for Lauren Hemp. She is playing in an unnatural number nine position tonight, filling in for the injured Alessia Russo and now she's scored against the world champions at Wembley!

Lauren Hemp might not be a natural number nine but her movement off the ball then was just fantastic.
Really good movement and build-up play from England, with a super finish.
Can Lauren Hemp play as a number nine? Tick!
Lauren Hemp (9 mins)
Well then.
Beth Mead plays in a lovely ball to Lauren Hemp and Alana Cook seems to deal with it but it just about falls to the feet of Hemp, it's a bit of a stutter but the ball trickles over the line and England have opened the scoring.
Who says Hemp couldn't play through the middle?
England 0-0 USA
Izzy Christiansen
Everton and England midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live
Excellent start for the fans but probably not for the managers.
You'll want one of your players to get a foot on the ball and to build a tempo.
England 0-0 USA
Good effort from England.
Georgia Stanway surges forward and plays a lovely little backheel to the arriving Beth Mead.
Mead fires straight at Alyssa Naeher and it's the first time the goalkeeper has been called into action.
