Aston Villa sit 14th in the Premier League and have only conceded one goal in their last three matches. Asked about what has changed from their early-season form manager Steve Gerrard says: "We were conceding to many goals so the priority was to be better organised. The likes of Tyrone [Mings] have been playing well.

"We have defensive players in really good form. Ashley Young is leading by example on and off the pitch. To get [Matty] Cashy back is a boost and a lot of our players are getting closer to the form we need them in.

"The forward players aren’t that far away either. We have proved before that with these player, when they are at it they can score goals."

"Last weekend was a missed opportunity [at Leeds] not just going down to 10 men but on the back of the opportunities we created.

"We did enough to win the game with 19 shots on goal and 12 from in the penalty area and Ezri Konsa had magnificent chance to score."

  5. Charlton's £6.8m pre-tax losspublished at 14:00 British Summer Time 6 October 2022

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport

The parent company of League One Charlton Athletic made a pre-tax loss of £6.8m for the 10 months to June 2021.

The period in question came at the end of one of the most turbulent times in Charlton’s history and a battle for ownership that ended up in the High Court.

US-based Danish businessman Thomas Sandgaard eventually bought Charlton in September 2020.

However, the accounts show Sandgaard had provided an interest-free loan to Clear Ocean Capital, the parent company of both the Charlton men’s and women’s operation, in excess of £10m, with the promise of more.

BBC Sport understands that figure is now nearer £20m.

Wage costs of £7.1m exceeded a turnover figure of £6.36m, although this was affected by matches being played behind closed doors, even if the club received £45,000 from the Government as part of their furlough scheme.

  6. Maddison 'a respected voice' in Foxes squadpublished at 13:52 British Summer Time 6 October 2022

Bournemouth v Leicester (Sat, 15:00 BST)

    Leicester City

Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers has been doing his thing in front of the media.

First up the Foxes boss was asked about James Maddison who played a starring role and scored twice in the 4-0 win over Nottingham Forest on Monday.

“There’s no doubt his maturity on and off the pitch has developed," Rodgers said.

"He’s older now and has developed on and off the pitch. He talks the game so well because he has a passion for it. He’s definitely a respected voice within the squad.”

  7. Tottenham players 'devastated' by death of fitness coachpublished at 13:43 British Summer Time 6 October 2022

Premier League players will take the knee before the next two match rounds to show their unity against racism.

Top-flight matches between 8 and 16 October will be dedicated to the No Room For Racism campaign.

Club captains agreed before the season that they would stop taking the knee before every game and instead choose significant moments to demonstrate the anti-racism gesture.

Players will also take the knee at Boxing Day fixtures and cup finals.

  9. 'Last year we took points off Man City, so who knows?'published at 13:20 British Summer Time 6 October 2022

Man City v Southampton (Sat, 15:00 BST)

    Southampton

Ralph Hasenhuttl on Southampton's ability to compete in the Premier League: "Every year it's the same. The league gets tougher and stronger every year. The top six and teams like Newcastle are spending massive money, which is probably why we were unable to get the players we wanted in the summer.

"So every game is very tight in the Premier League. Manchester City away is maybe not the game you are expecting the points, but last year we took points against them so who knows?

"I fully trust my players and know what job they can do here. We know they can score goals and help us to win games."

  10. Postpublished at 13:18 British Summer Time 6 October 2022

Man City v Southampton (Sat, 15:00 BST)

    Southampton

Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl on what he expects to see from his team: "I want to see braveness against the ball and with the ball. You cannot avoid them having a lot of chances against you but there is a way to defend against them, and we showed in the past we can do this.

"One of our best away games last season we took a point there. You need every player on the highest level. We are working hard to put everyone in the best possible shape and we are working hard towards this game."

  11. 'We are not scared' by Man Citypublished at 13:15 British Summer Time 6 October 2022

Man City v Southampton (Sat, 15:00 BST)

    Southampton

More from Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl: "The message is very, very clear. We have had three very tight games losing by a one-goal difference each time.

"This is what we have to learn. We see that progress is there. We are going there [to Manchester City] but be sure that we are not scared, we want to show a brave team and a successful one."

  12. Postpublished at 13:13 British Summer Time 6 October 2022

Man City v Southampton (Sat, 15:00 BST)

    Southampton

More from Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl, who is asked if speculation about his own job is a distraction: "We had some tough times at this club, are now we are facing Man City. We have done well against them in the past.

"This is the only thing we are concentrating on."

  13. Postpublished at 13:11 British Summer Time 6 October 2022

Man City v Southampton (Sat, 15:00 BST)

    Southampton

The Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl is asked how his team will cope with Manchester City and in particular Erling Haaland: "If you just reduce Man City to Erling Haaland, there are more players you have to concentrate on.

"If you concentrate only on him you will not win this game. It is a good challenge for us to show if we are able to take something there.

"It is not surprising that a good player coming into a successful team can be a good goalscorer. He [Haaland] has scored in every team he has been in there was no reason why he should not do it in this team."
