If I were England manager, I would build my entire team around TAA pinging balls to Kane (the two best English players) at all times, and make a system to cover for the defensive gap Trent might leave when attacking. But that's just me.

    Mo, Newport

Trent has to be in the squad as he offers something the other right-backs don't. Southgate has his own beliefs on how England should play and has built his squad accordingly. Unfortunately, his "tactics" have no room for variation when plan A doesn't work. This explains his lack of use of subs when the game stagnates. Euro’s final being a good example.

Talking about Fantasy Football legends, I wonder if Trent Alexander-Arnold's goal against Rangers in the Champions League on Tuesday will see him back firing in the Premier League.

The Liverpool full-back has been a must-pick for FF managers until this season...

  3. Is it time to captain Erling Haaland permanently?published at 12:16 British Summer Time 6 October 2022

You mean you haven't done this already Ali?

If you don't already own Erling Haaland, or you do but you didn't captain him in gameweek nine, then don't panic.

You will have taken a bit of a hit, you will have fallen behind a lot of your mini-league rivals, but you don't immediately have to chase those losses by making left-field, differential choices and trying to back against Haaland.

The best thing to do is buy him and captain him at home to Southampton in gameweek 10 particularly as he was given 45 minutes rest by Pep Guardiola in the Champions League this week.

I think I will also captain him away to Liverpool in gameweek 11 simply because he is the most reliable source of points in the game at the moment, regardless of who Manchester City are up against. They will create chances for him and he's a goal-scoring machine, it's as simple as that.

England boss Sarina Wiegman was also asked about a report released on Tuesday that detailed evidence of abuse and misconduct - both verbal and sexual - in the National Women's Soccer League.

“My first reaction is that’s horrible, unacceptable that it is still happening and I feel very sorry for all the victims," Wiegman said.

"It should stop immediately. I think it’s a worldwide thing. We need to stop these things. It’s horrible."

  10. Concussion subs 'something Uefa need to look at' - Meadpublished at 11:37 British Summer Time 6 October 2022

England v USA (Fri, 20:00 BST)

    England

Beth Mead on her recovery from a head injury suffered during Arsenal's Champions League win against Ajax on 28 September: "Obviously I am fine now. I have done all the protocols and I am back in training.

"At the time it was a bit of a scary situation. I thought the club did amazing with me - they did the right thing and took me off the pitch.

"Unfortunately, there was not a concussion sub in place with Uefa.

"Again, with such a serious injury, I think it is a little disappointing that is not in place at the moment and that is something they maybe need to look at."

  11. 'We put pressure on ourselves'published at 11:32 British Summer Time 6 October 2022

England v USA (Fri, 20:00 BST)

    England

More from England women's boss Sarina Wiegman: "We are a team that everyone expects to win. We play USA who are very good. There are some top level teams that we are part of that when you play you don't know if you are going to win.

"We put pressure on ourselves. We want to win every time we go on the pitch.

On Rachel Daly playing as a striker for Aston Villa but as a defender for England: "I see her in a lot of positions. The only position I don't see her is as a goalkeeper.

"She is very versatile and brings something on the pitch for us. We have discussions about that. She knows. She always says ‘wherever you want to bring me in I will do a job as good as possible.' You will see tomorrow what we pick. We look at what we need and put the 11 best players on the pitch."

  12. 'We not only want to win - we want to dominate the game'published at 11:29 British Summer Time 6 October 2022

England v USA (Fri, 20:00 BST)

    England

England women's manager Sarina Wiegman on facing the USA: "I am really looking forward to it. The team is doing well. We had a few late injuries obviously, but now everyone who is here is available and it is looking good.

"USA are one of best teams in the world, they are ranked number one.

"I think, everyone in the USA team is very excited to come to Europe and play top-level teams.

"It is a great test for us. We are not only thinking about the result, we don't only want to win, we want to dominate the game. That is what we will try to do and what we hope to do."

  13. 'We need these games'published at 11:27 British Summer Time 6 October 2022

England v USA (Fri, 20:00 BST)

    England

More from England women's boss Sarina Wiegman, who is asked about coping with injuries after captain Leah Williamson and Lucy Parker withdrew from the squad: "When someone drops out we know what the next step will be and we know that we have some depth and we can solve those situations.

"It also gives opportunities to other players to show themselves."

On Williamson, she adds: "She is being assessed and we just hope she is back soon."

On facing the USA: "We need these games to see where we are. We can player lower ranked teams but it doesn't give you the picture you need to prepare for the World Cup. You always want to win and then after the game we always look at the moments and see what we could do better. That's how we approach it.

"What we have seen in Europe is the improvement of the game. You can see the difference between the Euros 2017 and 2022. The game has improved so much tactically and technically with many different styles of play. The Americans have improved to and brought in some younger players and newer players."

"It's theirs just as much as mine but I am proud of the season I had - individually and collectively for the teams that I play for."
