Well, that's it from us and, sadly, Scotland.

It was to be the Republic of Ireland's night, and over the course, they thoroughly deserve it. History made as they now look forward to their women's team's first major finals, and a poignant moment for the match-winner Amber Barrett.

For Scotland? Well, that's now this year's Euros and the World Cup which have passed them by. There will be more to come from this Scotland group, put the pain for this one will linger for some time.

Thanks for sticking with us tonight.

  5. 'Disappointed for the whole nation'published at 22:15 British Summer Time 11 October 2022

FT: Scotland 0-1 Republic of Ireland

Scotland boss Pedro Martinez Losa tells BBC Alba: "I'm very disappointed - for the girls, and for the whole nation. It was an incredible opportunity.

"I think the game was hard on us, but those things happen in life and in football. In apologise to the fans. We wanted to qualify for the World Cup so badly.

"We missed little details. We didn't score the penalty, and after that, I'm not sure how many opportunities the opposition had to score. The game plan was executed well. It was one action at one side of the box and another at the one side of the box that decided the game.

"The hard work of the players has been amazing - I couldn't ask for any more. We'll stick together, come back together, and hopefully we have another opportunity soon."

"Amber's first touch made the game. Preparation is everything. The saved penalty by Courtney was not luck. We knew where it was going. We trained for everything and we were ready for every scenario."

It's a tough one to take, especially when you look at the reaction of the Scotland players out there. Tonight is Ireland's night. For Scotland, it's bitterly disappointing.

I'm so happy for everyone on the pitch, but also the people who have come before them. So many people have put the work in over the years. I can't express in words how happy I am right now.

Scotland's players look stunned. There are tears from some, while others look on in disbelief as they group together in the middle of the park.

Their big players didn't do enough tonight, and that will frustrate Pedro Martinez Losa.

Even at this stage of the game, Scotland are lacking urgency. I'd be thinking about getting Jen Beattie up there for some extra height. They need to start playing like there's only a few minutes left.

    Sooooooooooo frustrating.

Scotland pop the ball about in the Ireland half, before then pinging a wide pass straight out of play.

    Three minutes to go.
