  1. 'We need to quieten the home crowd'published at 19:53 British Summer Time 12 October 2022

    Rangers v Liverpool (20:00)

    BBC Radio 5 Live

Sian Bennett from the Anfield Wrap, speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live on her expectations for tonight:

"I want to get the basics right, no one can deny the ability is there. If you look back at the Arsenal game, we were unplayable at times. It just comes down to lapses of concentration and confidence, which is all fixable.

"I want to see us get a clean sheet and to score first. We need to quieten the home crowd.

"I'm intrigued to see how the formation pans out too. We just need stability, we don't need to come flying out the traps.

"Game management has been our downfall, not the quality of the team.

"Liverpool thrive off European football and knockout football. It's refreshing when we know we're away from the league because you can reset.

"I'm confident we can get a result tonight and qualify."

  2. 'Klopp looks content on walkabout'published at 19:51 British Summer Time 12 October 2022

    Rangers v Liverpool (20:00)

    Scott Mullen
    BBC Scotland at Ibrox

Jurgen Klopp is meandering his way through the Liverpool players as they do their various warm ups.

The German stops in the middle of the half, turns and looks at the away support in the far corner as they burst into song, before standing back to watch his strikers take part in a rather erratic shooting drill. Rangers will be hoping their eye for goal stays as wayward.

Ibrox is now about 90% full and the atmosphere is getting whacked up. This place will be jumping come kick-off.

  3. Can Rangers find a way to goal?published at 19:48 British Summer Time 12 October 2022

    Rangers v Liverpool (20:00)

Rangers have scored just seven goals in their last 16 Champions League games, and never more than once in a game in that run. They’ve failed to score in each of their three games this season, but have never gone four without a goal in the competition.

Liverpool have only failed to score in one of their last 20 Champions League group stage games, netting in each of their last 11 since a 2-0 loss to Atalanta in November 2020.

  4. This is 'an escape' for Liverpoolpublished at 19:45 British Summer Time 12 October 2022

    Rangers v Liverpool (20:00)

    Jonathan Woodgate
Former England defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

If you look at this competition it's still something Liverpool can win but if you look at the Premier League it's unlikely they'll win it.

It's an escape for them to come and play these games.

I'm looking forward to seeing Harvey Elliott and Fabio Carvalho play in this atmosphere.

    Rangers v Liverpool (20:00)

  7. Postpublished at 19:38 British Summer Time 12 October 2022

    Rangers v Liverpool (20:00)

Liverpool have a W8 D4 L3 record against Scottish sides in Europe, a mirror image of Rangers' W3 D4 L8 record against English sides.

  8. Napoli restore two-goal cushionpublished at 19:35 British Summer Time 12 October 2022

    Rangers v Liverpool (20:00)

Victor Osimhen makes the points safe for Napoli, surely? Going into stoppage time in the south of Italy, it's now 4-2.

Napoli have scored 17 goals in four Group A games!

  9. Lundstram urges 'bravery from the stands'published at 19:33 British Summer Time 12 October 2022

    Rangers v Liverpool (20:00)

Liverpool-born midfielder John Lundstram wants Rangers to make life uncomfortable for the visitors and hopes to feed off the home support's energy.

"At Ibrox, you have to get up against people, get the crowd up, get them going and try to instil a bit of fear in the opposition," he said on Tuesday.

"Anyone who has been here will have felt the atmosphere, felt the aura around the place. If we can get up to them and in their faces, it might leave us open a bit and everyone will have to be brave in the stands and bear with us.

"If we can do that, that's the only way we can get a result against a team like Liverpool, who are really talented."

  10. 'This is a crowd who have high expectations'published at 19:30 British Summer Time 12 October 2022

    Rangers v Liverpool (20:00)

    John Murray
Commentator on BBC Radio 5 Live

It makes sense in front of this crowd that Antonio Colak is starting because they've made it clear they want to see him playing.

He's scoring goals, yes it's a different class in the Champions League but this is a crowd who have high expectations.

It's no place for shrinking violets.

I know that atmosphere can't win games but it can lift players.

  11. Ajax still in it...published at 19:27 British Summer Time 12 October 2022

    Rangers v Liverpool (20:00)

It's now 3-2 to Napoli as Ajax forward Steven Bergwijn cracks home a spot-kick after a scandalously soft award.

    Rangers v Liverpool (20:00)

As usual, there was a Uefa Youth League meeting between the sides earlier today - and it was a cracker.

Ben Doak scored a fabulous late goal to give Liverpool a 4-3 win in the Under-19s contest at Firhill.

The Scottish forward, formerly with Celtic, is only 16 and looks a real talent.

  14. 'Our approach will be different because we need points'published at 19:20 British Summer Time 12 October 2022

    Rangers v Liverpool (20:00)

"We have to find more moments in the game when we can be dangerous," said Rangers manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst yesterday.

"Of course our approach will be different because we need points to hopefully play after the break in Europe. But, we are still going to be up against a very good side.

"We want to be able to proceed in Europe when we play our last game at home against Ajax. Hopefully we are in a situation where, with a good result, we can continue.

"We need to get points. Ideally three points and we have to see the other results."

    Rangers v Liverpool (20:00)

"We fought against Arsenal really hard and that is what we will do (again) because we have to," said Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp at yesterday's media conference.

"Rangers want to put things right and get points in the Champions League group.

"They tried it with a defensive approach and five at the back and now they want to attack and go for it in a great atmosphere. I am really excited to experience that."

  16. Salah 'isn't the only one' to have a poor startpublished at 19:15 British Summer Time 12 October 2022

    Rangers v Liverpool (20:00)

    Jonathan Woodgate
Former England defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

On Mo Salah being named on the bench ...

I think it's about having an eye on the game at the weekend but it's always big news when one of the best footballers in the world is being rested on the bench.

He hasn't had the best of seasons so far but you could say that about a lot of the Liverpool players, he's not the only one.

He'll probably end up coming on and scoring!
