Aston Villa's most energetic and dangerous player was Freya Gregory - who's had their two best chances. The strike against Mary Earps came down low and the runs she was making down the right-hand side were great. She was the player that Kenza Dali was looking to play the ball out too.

Can we take two WSL matches at the same time?

    Why not...

My colleague Harry De Cosemo is across Arsenal v Everton, which kicks off at 14:00 GMT.

    Man Utd 3-0 Aston Villa

Manchester United are just starting to get a little sloppy now, giving Aston Villa a sniff of a way back.

Mayumi Pacheco skews a volley wide off her shin when she had more time.

The Villa press is starting to pay dividends. They are going for it.

  4. GREAT SAVE!published at 13:53 Greenwich Mean Time 3 December 2022

    Man Utd 3-0 Aston Villa

Alisha Lehmann lets fly from well outside the Manchester United area and Mary Earps had to be at full stretch to palm the shot away.

  5. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 13:51 Greenwich Mean Time 3 December 2022

    Man Utd 3-0 Aston Villa

That was Nikita Parris's last act as she trudges off, looking spent, to be replaced by Martha Thomas.

Parris put in a fine shift there - she should be well pleased with her day's work.

    Man Utd 3-0 Aston Villa

Nikita Parris produces a superb turn and shows a clean pair of heels to Mayumi Pacheco but is unable to find a cross to match that fine piece of skill.

Manchester United are turning it on now for this record crowd, who it looks like will be going home happy.

The band chimes up - they certainly seem to be enjoying themselves.

  7. SUBSTITUTION - Gielnik on for Gregorypublished at 13:47 Greenwich Mean Time 3 December 2022

    Man Utd 3-0 Aston Villa

Aston Villa manager Carla Ward will be hoping to freshen up her side from the bench.

Emily Gielnik replaces Freya Gregory as she returns from a calf injury.

Remember, Villa only have four fit players on the bench to choose from.

You cannot deny the quality of Toone and Russo together. We've been talking about the chemistry before and about playing for each other.

Not only that, Ella Toone and Alessia Russo are good friends who have played together at international and club level. We can see the chemistry between the two players and the goal summed up how well they play together.

Kudos to Nikita Parris again there too. Another superb weighted pass to Ella Toone set Manchester United on their way to that crucial third goal.

It's hard to see a way back for Aston Villa now.

    Alessia Russo

    Well that was coming...

Another assist for Ella Toone, who squares a great low cross perfectly on to the run of Alessia Russo on the back post.

The Manchester United forward just had to stroke the ball home before peeling away to celebrate. Simple, but so effective.

    Man Utd 2-0 Aston Villa

Aston Villa are struggling to get out of their own half at present, chasing shadows as Manchester United knock the ball about with ease.

Ella Toone just rolled a centre behind Alessia Russo after being put in by a great pass from Nikita Parris. Leah Galton then goes wide with the follow-up.

Manchester United have resumed on the front foot in this second half.

Manchester United are deservedly winning the game. They have been the better of the two teams, but Aston Villa haven't been shy going forward. They've had a couple of chances and it should have been 2-1 at half-time, which would have given a different outlook coming out into the second half.

  14. KICK-OFFpublished at 13:33 Greenwich Mean Time 3 December 2022

    Man Utd 2-0 Aston Villa

One of the big talking points at half time was a Freya Gregory tackle on Hayley Ladd in the Aston Villa penalty area, just before the break, that went unpunished.

It looked like a good shout for a penalty, but, potentially, United were offside in the build-up so it probably would not have mattered had the referee seen it.

    Anyway, we go again.

Can Manchester United continue their fine form against Aston Villa to climb back to the top of the WSL? We shall see over the next 45 minutes.

  15. It isn't getting any easier for Evertonpublished at 13:32 Greenwich Mean Time 3 December 2022

    Arsenal v Everton (14:00 GMT)

It is just onw win in five WSL games for Everton, and the tough fixtures aren't relenting.

Chelsea and both Manchester clubs have already beaten the Toffees on that run, nw Arsenal are up next. Can their luck change today?

As second-placed Arsenal face their first WSL match without injured striker Beth Mead, they have been boosted by the return of England captain Leah Williamson following two months out with a foot injury. She's on the bench today.

Manager Jonas Eidevall confirmed Williamson, who hasn't played since the end of September, would return to the matchday squad to face Everton along with fellow centre-back Rafaelle Souza.

But Eidevall must find a way of replacing Mead, who has been key to their title challenge this season, with three goals and four assists in eight games.

Fortunately, both Stina Blackstenius and Frida Maanum are in fine form themselves, with eight league goals between them.

Eidevall was also able to recall the WSL's all-time record scorer Vivianne Miedema in their last outing, which came in the Women's Champions League, and the Dutch international respondedby scoring the equaliser against Juventusto end her goal drought.

The Gunners are looking to get back on track at home to Everton after Manchester United ended their record 14-match winning streak in the league.

Toffees manager Brian Sorensen isn't reading too much into that result. "They're big favourites," he added. "They've been doing really well this season. Their loss against Manchester United - it could have gone both ways.

"Arsenal are a really good team, we have to play to at our very best to compete."

Unfortunately for the Toffees, history is against them. Arsenal have won all eight home games against them by an aggregate score of 22-4, the best such record between any two sides in the WSL.

  17. Arsenal up at 14:00published at 13:25 Greenwich Mean Time 3 December 2022

    Arsenal v Everton (14:00 GMT)

So Man Utd appear well on their way to another three points.

    Next up, Arsenal.

They'll be looking to bounce back from that defeat to Manchester United last time out in the WSL.

Can they do that against Everton? We'll find out in just under 45 minutes.

  18. Bad omens for Villapublished at 13:23 Greenwich Mean Time 3 December 2022

HT: Man Utd 2-0 Aston Villa

The omens do not look good for Aston Villa from previous matches against Manchester United, despite their fine record of coming from behind to earn points in the WSL this season.

United have won three of their four previous WSL matches against Villa, scoring 10 goals and conceding none.

Only Yeovil Town (five against both Chelsea and Reading) and Sunderland (seven against Manchester City) have faced an opponent in the WSL more than Villa have against United without scoring.

I wonder if they can remedy that in the second half?
