    Man Utd 2-0 Aston Villa

Just a few minutes of regulation time remaining in the first half here at Old Trafford.

You get the feeling Aston Villa will need to get a goal back before the break if they are to get anything from this game.

  2. Williamson returns to Arsenal benchpublished at 13:11 Greenwich Mean Time 3 December 2022

    Arsenal v Everton (14:00 GMT)

Arsenal manager Jonas Eidevall has named two changes following his side's 3-2 defeat by Manchester United in their previous league meeting, which ended the Gunners' 18-game unbeaten run - and a 14-game winning streak in the WSL.

Jen Beattie and Vivianne Miedema start against Everton. Jordan Nobbs drops to the bench, while Beth Mead will be out for "an extended period" after rupturing her ACL.

But the big news is that England captain Leah Williamson is back in the squad after two months out with a foot injury and returns to the bench at Meadow Park today, as does Brazilian defender Rafaelle Souza after recovering from a fractured foot.

Arsenal XI: Zinsberger, Wienrother, Wubben-Moy, Beattie, Catley, Walti, Maanum, Miedema, McCabe, Foord, Blackstenius.

Brian Sorensen also makes two changes after Everton lost 2-1 to Manchester City in their last WSL outing two weeks ago.

There are starts for Jess Park and teenager Aggie Beever-Jones, as Aurora Galli drops to the bench and Megan Finnigan misses out with injury.

Everton XI: Ramsey, Sevecke, Bjorn, George, Bennison, Park, Beever-Jones, Graham, Snoeijs, Stenevik, Holmgaard.

I did say that Ella Toone can turn it on at anytime and she has played with that much frustration. Maybe people think her playing like that or she's not on it, then all of a sudden, she plays a great ball that we were not expecting.

    Man Utd 2-0 Aston Villa

Mary Earps does well there to get down low and palm away a sharp shot from Aston Villa's Freya Gregory at the far post following good work by the visitors down the left flank.

I absolutely love watching Ella Toone. She always looks like she's just enjoying the game so much - it reminds me of being a kid and just playing football because you love it.

She's always asking for the ball and shaking her head if she doesn't get it. There's even a few tricks and turns coming out now from the Lioness.

She's certainly a favourite here with United supporters.

Alessia Russo heads an effort just wide of the far post as Manchester United go in for the kill here.

It wouldn't have counted though - just offside.

  8. goal

    Leah Galton

What a classy finish to put the hosts two goals up.

A perfectly weighted pass from Ella Toone splits the Aston Villa defence and Leah Galton runs on to the ball and strokes it past Hannah Hampton with the outside of her right boot.

Impressive stuff from the home side in front of a record crowd.

Rachel Daly is putting in a sterling effort on her own up front. Aston Villa's leading goalscorer is doing her best to harry the Manchester United back line and looks to be fully recovered after that early knock - but it is a bit of a thankless task at present.

    Oh wow.

The brass band have gone very early with a rendition of Sweet Caroline.

Call me miserable but that's a no from me.

    Man Utd 1-0 Aston Villa

Aston Villa's Alisha Lehmann cuts in from the left and curls a first shot on target for the visitors but it is simple for Manchester United stopper Mary Earps.

Bit of a scramble in the box there but Katie Zelem was just lingering at the back post ready to sweep home.

It was a teasing ball in from Ona Batlle on the right-hand side aimed at Alessia Russo. But she was mobbed in the box and couldn't get the shot off with Hannah Hampton also swiping away.

Captain Zelem was just waiting to pounce and she lashed it into the roof of the net.

    It had been coming.

    Man Utd 1-0 Aston Villa

Aston Villa have picked up six points from losing positions in the WSL this season.

    No side has got more.

They are going to have to do it the hard way again at Old Trafford today.

The visitors are probing again, looking for a way back into this game.

  14. 'Hampton should have done better'published at 12:48 Greenwich Mean Time 3 December 2022

There is no denying that it was a really good build-up play. It came from Ella Toone from outside the box and you think she would pass the ball into the middle of the box. For me, Hannah Hampton should have done better.

Looking at the run from Katie Zelem, that was absolutely brilliant. Late run and smashes the ball into the net.

There's actually a little brass band away in the corner of the Stretford End to my left.

They have just struck up a version of Seven Nation Army, which the crowd enjoyed.

I think a brass band at a women's football match may be a first for me?

    Katie Zelem

    Katie doesn't miss from there.

Aston Villa goalkeeper Hannah Hampton fumbles an Ona Battle cross and the ball lands at the feet of Katie Zelem, who lashes it into the roof of the net from a couple of yards out.

    Man Utd 0-0 Aston Villa

Manchester United are straight up the other end and it takes a great block from Aston Villa's Sarah Mayling on the edge of the six-yard box to cut out the threat following a Leah Galton cross.

    Man Utd 0-0 Aston Villa

Alessia Russo wins the home side a couple of free-kicks to move them up the pitch after a spell of early pressure from Aston Villa.

Katie Zelem swings in a free-kick from midway into the Villa half but the visitors clear the danger and Alisha Lehmann is set clear by Kenza Dali but wastes the opportunity with a poor pass that rolls back to the United keeper.

You expect Man Utd to get a foothold in the game quite early. They look to try and dominate possession. However, Aston Villa are capable of breaking really quickly.
