FT: Bristol City 2-1 Preston North End

That result ends a run of five matches without a win for Bristol City and feels like it was really needed for Nigel Pearson's side.

Such is the Championship table, they move up from 18th to 11th, one point behind Preston who remain in eighth place.

We don't know where this will take us but it stops the mini slump we've been having.

This is just the start hopefully of something to come.

I'd say Bristol City were the better team, not buy a lot - there wasn't a lot in it.

When Preston equalised you thought it was going be a draw.

Maybe Freddie Woodman could've come off his line and dealt with it for the winner.

Bristol City 2-1 Preston North End

A match that was far from a thriller for most of the 90 minutes somehow produced some late drama, as Bristol City snatch a 2-1 win over Preston thanks to two goals from Rob Atkinson.

The defender gave the hosts the lead in the second half, before Andrew Hughes equalised for Preston from a free-kick nine minutes from time.

But Atkinson's header with 60 seconds of normal time on the clock wrapped up the win for Bristol City, their first in six matches.

Preston players are looking frustrated now as Robbie Brady makes a sloppy challenge on Antoine Semenyo, lashing out with his leg to take the striker out.

To Brady's credit he realises his mistake straight away and apologises to Semenyo, as he's shown a yellow card.

Chances wise there haven't been a lot for either side.

it's been a game of two great set-plays.

Two in one night for Rob Atkinson who puts Bristol City back in front with a minute of normal time remaining!

It comes from an Alex Scott corner and the defender is there again to nod it into the net again.

Nigel Pearson makes his first changes with five minutes of normal time to go. Nahki Wells comes on for Tommy Conway.

Bristol City 1-1 Preston North End

Set-pieces have been a big Achilles heel for Bristol City this season.

All three of the goals they conceded to Birmingham on Saturday came from set-pieces and Nigel Pearson did say this week that the focus in training had been working on them.

Clearly there's still more work to be done...

An absolutely prefect cross from Robbie Brady, nice shape on it, perfect height.

It bobbled about and Andrew Hughes smashed it, it hit the target and the keeper couldn't see it.

I wouldn't exactly say it was coming, but Bristol City had taken their foot off the gas.

    Andrew Hughes (81 mins)

Out of nothing Preston have got themselves back in this!

Bristol City give away a cheap free-kick on the edge of the penalty area and it gifts Preston the chance to get the ball into the box.

It comes in and is scrappy but eventually falls to Andrew Hughes, who volleys into the net from close range.

Bristol City 1-0 Preston North End

Antoine Semenyo makes a driving run towards goal and fires a good shot at Freddie Woodman but the Preston keeper is alert to the danger and palms the ball down to block it from going in the net.

  17. YELLOW CARDpublished at 78 mins

Bristol City 1-0 Preston North End

Alex Scott gets taken out again, this time by Ben Woodburn and this time the referee does reach for his pocket to show the Preston midfielder a yellow card.

  18. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 76 mins

Bristol City 1-0 Preston North End

Another double change from Ryan Lowe before Bristol City take their free-kick.

Ali McCann and Alvaro Fernandez go off with Ched Evans and Alan Browne coming on.

  19. Postpublished at 75 mins

Bristol City 1-0 Preston North End

Greg Cunningham takes out Alex Scott with a challenge from behind and Scott is in quite a bit of pain on the floor.

It's not a good tackle at all and more surprisingly there is no card shown to the Preston player, despite protests from the home players and discontent from the home fans.

  20. Postpublished at 72 mins

Bristol City 1-0 Preston North End

That goal from Rob Atkinson means Bristol City are now the joint-highest scoring team in the Championship.

They are level on 21 goals with top of of the table Sheffield United.
