The one thing I'll say about Alex Scott is he looks the part.

He's got the lime green boots, socks down the shin pads, the number seven shirt - he's already had some lovely touches.

Bristol City 0-0 Preston North End

Another good attacking moment for Bristol City and we're only four minutes in.

This time Joe Williams slips a neat pass in to Mark Sykes, and he takes a shot at goal which Freddie Woodman has to clear behind for a corner again.

  3. Postpublished at 2 mins

Bristol City 0-0 Preston North End

Tommy Conway kicks down Preston's pass from kick-off and Jay Dasilva wins the hosts an early free-kick in a promising spot high up the pitch.

Dasilva's cross comes in and Preston make a few scrappy attempts to clear it before it goes out for a corner.

Alex Scott's corner this time is cleared well by Preston but it's an encouraging start from the hosts.

  4. KICK-OFFpublished at 1 min

Bristol City 0-0 Preston North End

Here we go, referee Keith Stroud has blown his whistle and we are under way at Ashton Gate.

  5. Team newspublished at 19:42 British Summer Time 12 October 2022

Bristol City v Preston North End (19:45 BST)

Bristol City have made four changes to their starting line-up tonight, with the biggest call being to drop goalkeeper Dan Bentley and replace him with Max O'Leary for the first time since last season. Centre-back Timm Klose, midfielder Joe Williams and Antoine Semenyo also come in.

Bristol City: Max O'Leary, Zak Vyner, Timm Klose, Rob Atkinson, Mark Sykes, Joe Williams, Alex Scott, Jay Dasilva, Andi Weimann (c), Tommy Conway, Antoine Semenyo.

  6. Opposite ends of the goal spectrumpublished at 19:39 British Summer Time 12 October 2022

Bristol City v Preston North End (19:45 BST)

We could be in for an interesting evening when you contrast the goal stats between these two sides.

Bristol City have been one of the most prolific scoring teams in the Championship so far this season, with their 20 goals in 13 matches the second highest total in the league.

That being said, they also concede an awful lot... they've let in 21 goals, with only Hull (26) conceding more.

Compare this to notoriously goal-shy Preston, who have scored just seven times in their 13 games - by far the league's lowest tally.

But what they lack in firepower up front they've made up for at the back, with the most rock-solid defence in the whole EFL which has conceded just six goals.

Having finally ended their long run of painful goalless draws, Preston come into the match with back-to-back wins under their belts.

They beat Norwich in a 3-2 thriller on the weekend, the first time they've scored more than one goal in a match all season, having beaten struggling West Brom the week before.

The only downside is they'll have to do without Republic of Ireland striker Troy Parrott - who grabbed the late winner against the Canaries - after he was ruled out until after the World Cup with a knee injury this week.

Still, another win tonight would move the team above Swansea into sixth place.

It's safe to say tonight's hosts Bristol City are in a bit of a slump when it comes to their recent run of results.

They haven't won in their last five matches - four defeats and a 0-0 draw with bottom of the league Coventry - capped by a 3-0 thumping away to Birmingham on the weekend.

Manager Nigel Pearson said the criticism of his side - who now sit in 18th in the table, albeit six points off the play-off places - was warranted and they need to be "accountable" for the performances.

"Performances have been under-par, although the draw that we had midweek [against Coventry] was at least an improvement. We've had that draw book-ended with some poor performances," he told BBC Radio Bristol.

Good evening and thanks for joining us on this autumnal Wednesday night for a little bit of Championship football.

It's a slightly quieter affair as we've got just the one match to bring you this evening; Bristol City v Preston North End, a fixture that was postponed in early September after the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

But there's only 15 minutes to kick-off, so let's have a look at what we can expect from this contest.
