Bristol City 1-0 Preston North End

Perhaps unsurprisingly the sting has sort of gone out of this match since Bristol City took the lead.

We're into the final 20 minutes and it has slowed right down with a lot of players already walking around.

Bristol City are so far happy to sit back and Preston don't seem to know how to go forward.

I just hope there's not a grandstand finish and Bristol City don't sit too deep in the final 20 minutes...

There's another goal to be had here.

Zak Vyner gets a lazy yellow card here for kicking the ball away after it runs out for a throw-in to Preston.

Preston win a corner except it goes straight out the other side for a goal kick.

Ryan Lowe has a pondering look on his face as he watches on from the dugout.

Bristol City have only won once in their last 18 meetings with Preston in the league. Rob Atkinson's goal could change that tonight for them.

Manager Nigel Pearson has a much better record against the Lilywhites and is unbeaten in his last six games against them, a run that so far looks to be continuing.

  6. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 21:03 British Summer Time 12 October 2022

In among all that, Ryan Lowe made two changes as Daniel Johnson and Sean Maguire were taken off for Ryan Ledson and Ben Woodburn.

Preston almost very nearly got themselves back in this, who knew going a goal behind would spark them into life up front.

Emil Riis makes a break from midfield after a ball over the top from Ryan Ledson.

He's one-on-one with Max O'Leary, but the keeper does brilliantly, diving down to palm Riis' effort wide.

You'd never know it had been eight months since O'Leary last played for Bristol City.

It was a lovely delivery from Mark Sykes and the header was back across Freddie Woodman and gave him no chance.

Preston have it all to do now.

GOAL: Bristol City 1-0 Preston North Endpublished at 20:58 British Summer Time 12 October 2022

    Rob Atkinson (55 mins)

Deadlock broken and that will be a huge relief to the Ashton Gate faithful who were probably getting pretty cold watching this match so far.

It's not the prettiest as the ball bounces around the box a few times before falling to Rob Atkinson, who heads it into the goal from close range.

Bristol City 0-0 Preston North End

Bristol City are pressing for a goal as a cross comes in across the box and takes a deflection off a Preston head to fall to Jay Dasilva on the left, his shot is blocked by Liam Lindsay however and goes out for a corner.

  11. CLOSE!published at 20:55 British Summer Time 12 October 2022

Bristol City 0-0 Preston North End

That's better from Bristol City as Antoine Semenyo breaks into the box and fires a shot towards goal, he just can't quite curl it into the far corner with his left foot as it flashes wide of the woodwork.

  12. Postpublished at 47 mins

Bristol City 0-0 Preston North End

Just like the first half began, Bristol City have come out with an intensity about them to get the ball down into the Preston box.

Despite getting into good positions they really are lacking something in their final touches as Antoine Semenyo is slightly too heavy with his first touch and loses the ball on the edge of the box.

No changes for either team as they come back out, I wonder how long that will last for if this scoreline doesn't change.

Bristol City's Mark Sykes goes down after a clash with Alvaro Fernandez, giving Alex Scott another chance to fire a free-kick into the box. It's not his best however and goes straight out for a goal kick.

Here we go for another 45 minutes at Ashton Gate.

Let's all cross our fingers for some more action, shall we.

  15. EFL open to ending Saturday 3pm blackoutpublished at 20:46 British Summer Time 12 October 2022

We appreciate this is a midweek match so doesn't apply, but Saturday fixtures in the Championship could soon become a lot more visible to fans as the EFL are considering scrapping the 3pm blackout as part of their new TV rights deal from 2024.

The current deal with Sky Sports was controversial when it was negotiated in 2018, with some Championship clubs arguing it didn't maximise their reach or exposure.

The current deal sees 138 league matches across the EFL shown every season, as well as every play-off match and the Carabao Cup final.

There is, however, now a belief that a bigger deal could be secured, with streaming services such as Amazon, Netflix and Apple among those who may show interest.

David Woodrow: Re comment about crowd, I drove past Ashton Gate at 7.15pm and there were a few cars, which made me think a small rugby game was on. The KFC was empty too. On a typical matchday it is rammed - not surprised to see your comment about empty seats.

    Other chicken-based takeaways are available...

  17. 'Bristol City fragile at the moment'published at 20:39 British Summer Time 12 October 2022

HT: Bristol City 0-0 Preston North End

    Chris Honor
Former Bristol City defender, BBC Radio Bristol

I think that Birmingham performance has knocked a lot out of Bristol City.

Confidence in sport is really important and they're are a bit fragile at the moment, you can see it in the way we pass the ball forward, taking a bit too long.

The only person in this game who wasn't was Alex Scott, who was passing the ball with great pace and determination...

It's better than Saturday but that's a low base and you'd expect Bristol City to be a lot better than they performed at Birmingham.

  18. 'One goal could be enough'published at 20:37 British Summer Time 12 October 2022

HT: Bristol City 0-0 Preston North End

    Glen Little
Former Burnley winger on BBC Radio Lancashire

Bristol City got off to a good start - Preston hung in there and weathered the storm.

It's fair to say it hasn't been a great game.

You can see why Bristol City are struggling, there's a lack of quality in the final third.

You feel like one goal will be enough to win this.

  19. HALF-TIMEpublished at 20:34 British Summer Time 12 October 2022

Bristol City 0-0 Preston North End

All square at the break with not a huge amount of action to speak of, if we're being honest with you.

Bristol City started lively but the game really seemed to fizzle as the 45 minutes went on.
