    Danny Gabbidon
Former Cardiff and West Ham defender on BBC Two

Hereford can be really proud, and so can their fans.

They've done ever so well to get to this point.

They were excellent in their first half, but just didn't hold on to their lead long enough.

Portsmouth's quality showed second half and Hereford were unable to get out of their half or keep their attackers in the game.

Hereford were dreaming of a famous FA Cup upset for those seven first half minutes.

But Portsmouth's superior quality has worn them down in the second half and secured a spot in round two.

  9. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 90 mins

    Hereford 1-3 Portsmouth

A very late substitution for Hereford as captain Jared Hodgkiss comes off and teenager Mark Derricott enters the field.

Just a second appearance for the 19-year-old.

  10. INJURY TIMEpublished at 90 mins

    Hereford 1-3 Portsmouth

We are into four minutes of added time.

We will have to look elsewhere for some giant-killing in the FA Cup this weekend.

  11. Postpublished at 88 mins

    Hereford 1-3 Portsmouth

Josh Koroma with the free-kick and Dale Eve gathers smartly on his line.

A fourth Portsmouth goal really would be harsh on Hereford.

  12. FULL-TIMEpublished at 21:41 Greenwich Mean Time 4 November 2022

    Sheff Wed 2-0 Morecambe

Goals from Josh Windass and Alex Mighten see Sheffield Wednesday become the first side into round two, with fellow League One side Morecambe unable to put up much resistance.

You can see Mighten's goal below - it's not one Shrimps full-back Ryan Cooney will want to watch again...

    Hereford 1-3 Portsmouth

    Danny Gabbidon
Former Cardiff and West Ham defender on BBC Two

Certainly Hereford's energy levels have dropped, they've gone five yards deeper.

It's allowed Pompey to control things - credit to them for their second half performance.

  15. Postpublished at 84 mins

Portsmouth really have made their superior status count in this half.

    Goodnight Vienna!

Another corner is the undoing for Hereford and Clark Robertson with another out-swinger.

Again Colby Bishop gets above everyone and heads goalwards, and this time substitute Joe Pigott touches it home from five yards.

A hint of offside, but the goal stands and that may be that for Hereford's hopes this evening.

  17. CLOSE!published at 79 mins

    Hereford 1-2 Portsmouth

Almost the decisive goal for Portsmouth but Dale Eve denies Colby Bishop a second birthday goal.

Excellent play from the visitors as they kept the ball before going long via the boot of goalkeeper Josh Griffiths.

The crowd has been announced as 4,912 at Edgar Street, with more than 600 making their way up from the south coast.

They have made a good noise all night, but can they rouse their players into one big push late on?

  19. YELLOW CARDpublished at 74 mins

    Hereford 1-2 Portsmouth

The first card for a Hereford player as Jack Evans is late on Zak Swanson. Definitely a booking.

Perhaps understandable as Pompey have really been enjoying the lion's share of the ball since they went ahead.

  20. Bulls need a head of steampublished at 69 mins

    Hereford 1-2 Portsmouth

This is going to be a real test for Hereford in the last quarter of the game.

Portsmouth had taken the sting out of it in the build-up to Colby Bishop's goal. Now somehow the home side have to find a head of steam to push their opponents back.
