They were not behind for long!

A deep cross from Connor Ogilvie to the back post where Ronan Curtis climbs well and heads down for Reeco Hackett.

He is in acres of space six yards out and comfortably tucks it past Dale Eve.

  3. YELLOW CARDpublished at 29 mins

    Hereford 1-0 Portsmouth

A second Pompey booking of the evening.

Josh Koroma pulls down Ryan McLean and has his name taken down in the referee's book.

    The visitors are rattled.

  4. 'He knew exactly what to do'published at 20:25 Greenwich Mean Time 4 November 2022

    Hereford 1-0 Portsmouth

    Danny Gabbidon
Former Cardiff and West Ham defender on BBC Two

We have lift-off at Edgar Street.

Fanstastic composure by Miles Storey to slot that away as he still had a lot to do.

A lot of thoughts can go through your mind in that one-on-one situation.

It's a really fantastic finish to stick the ball through the legs of the goalkeeper - so many players get into this position and panic, but he knew exactly what to do.

    Edgar Street erupts!

Reeco Hackett is robbed by ex-Portsmouth man Miles Storey as the visitors try to play in their own half and the forward shows great composure to race through and calmly beat Josh Griffiths.

Only a second goal of the season for Storey. Not that you would have guessed by how well he took it.

Now we have a cup tie on our hands!

  6. Postpublished at 25 mins

    Hereford 0-0 Portsmouth

A worry for Portsmouth as Republic of Ireland international Ronan Curtis is down and receiving treatment.

It looked like he hurt his ankle in trying to avoid a tackle and it appears that his evening may be over.

  7. Pompey looking for a boostpublished at 23 mins

As befitting their status three divisions higher, Portsmouth are enjoying the majority of the possession.

But their form has not been great of late - seven points from the last seven games in League One.

They need a win tonight, not just to progress in this competition, but to restore some confidence for their league campaign.

  8. goal

GOAL: Sheff Wed 1-0 Morecambepublished at 20:17 Greenwich Mean Time 4 November 2022

    Josh Windass (31 mins)

Sheffield Wednesday and Morecambe may both be in League One but 19 places separate them and it's already showing at Hillsborough.

It's a (very) early contender for goal of the round, as Josh Windass - son of Dean - bends the ball into the top corner from outside the box.

  9. YELLOW CARDpublished at 17 mins

    Hereford 0-0 Portsmouth

A first booking of the evening and a simple call for referee Seb Stocksbridge.

Portsmouth midfielder Jay Mingi takes out Harry Pinchard in a cynical foul. No doubts about that one.

  10. 'Didn't think it was a penalty'published at 20:14 Greenwich Mean Time 4 November 2022

    Hereford 0-0 Portsmouth

    Danny Gabbidon
Former Cardiff and West Ham defender on BBC Two

He has to be careful there, Colby Bishop.

I didn't think it was a penalty, or too much in it, but his arms were around the waist area of Tyrone Barnett.

  11. PENALTY APPEALpublished at 16 mins

    Hereford 0-0 Portsmouth

There are a few appeals for a penalty from the home fans as a long free-kick is launched into the box and Colby Bishop tussles with veteran Hereford striker Tyrone Barnett.

No penalty given, no VAR at this level and we play on.

  12. GREAT SAVE!published at 14 mins

    Hereford 0-0 Portsmouth

Hereford goalkeeper Dale Eve is tested far more here as Reeco Hackett tries his luck from just outside the D.

The left-foot curler is headed towards the top corner but Eve pushes it away - albeit with a hint of the dramatic.

A good save and definitely one for the TV cameras!

  13. More applause for Ronniepublished at 11 mins

    Hereford 0-0 Portsmouth

The 11th minute is greeted by all corners of Edgar Street with applause for the club's most famous wearer of the number 11 shirt.

  15. The pitch is an absolute carpetpublished at 9 mins

    Hereford 0-0 Portsmouth

One thing immediately obvious is the state of the Edgar Street pitch. It's an absolute carpet!

All a far cry from Ronnie Radford and the mud heap of 50 years ago!

  16. 'Hereford will fancy their chances'published at 20:03 Greenwich Mean Time 4 November 2022

    Hereford 0-0 Portsmouth

    Danny Gabbidon
Former Cardiff and West Ham defender on BBC Two

This is what the FA Cup is all about. Two teams with fantastic history.

Hereford will really fancy their chances, with Pompey not in great form.

There's a bumper crowd here at Edgar Street and they will really look to feed off that.

  17. Postpublished at 6 mins

    Hereford 0-0 Portsmouth

Portsmouth win an early corner. Clark Robertson's delivery is cleared to the edge of the box where Ryan Tunnicliffe volleys it goalwards and Connor Ogilvie gets a head to it but it's a comfortable save for Hereford goalkeeper Dale Eve.

The 'keeper will be pleased to get a nice early touch like that one.

  18. KICK-OFFpublished at 1 min

    Hereford 0-0 Portsmouth

The silence turned into applause. Fitting, really.

Now time for an FA Cup tie to savour. Portsmouth to get us under way.

  19. Minute's silencepublished at 19:54 Greenwich Mean Time 4 November 2022

Both sets of players have gathered in the centre circle and before the match gets under way, we are going to have a minute's silence in memory of Hereford great Ronnie Radford.

  20. Steve Burr on BBC radio commentary duty tonightpublished at 19:52 Greenwich Mean Time 4 November 2022

    Hereford v Portsmouth (19:55 BST)

Steve Burr was still part of the Hereford FC backroom team just two months ago as Bulls boss Josh Gowling's number two.

After two years as Gowling's deputy, the former Northwich Victoria, Kidderminster Harriers, Chester and Southport boss then opted to take the chance to become a manager in his own right again by taking on the job with Hednesford Town.

Tonight Burr is back at Edgar Street as part of the BBC Hereford & Worcester commentary team to report on the Bulls' fortunes - hoping that Gowling might now have the same run of FA Cup success as a manager that he did as a player with Harriers under Burr eight seasons ago.

Harriers got to the fourth round that year, despite the club bizarrely sacking Burr just three days after holding Peterborough United to a 0-0 third-round draw at Aggborough.

Harriers went on to win the replay at London Road, before bowing out in the fourth round at Sunderland. But any such talk of round four is a long way off tonight. It's the Bulls against the Cowleys. And Gowling and Hereford are not yet looking anywhere near that far ahead.
