FT: Greenock Morton 4-0 Inverness CT

Inverness manager Billy Dodds tells BBC Scotland: “We were well beaten.

“I thought there were times we passed well but if you defend the way we did and you don’t take chances when you put the ball in the box you’re not going to win any games.

“That was the story tonight for us. We huffed and puffed in possession.”

When quizzed on the reasoning behind his half-time goalkeeper substitution, he responded: "That will remain private"

Greenock Morton manager Dougie Imrie tells BBC Scotland: “I’m obviously absolutely delighted.

"We want to make Cappielow a fortress.

“I'm so proud of my boys and everything they've given, so hopefully we keep that going.

“I’m sure you guys before the game were tipping us for relegation before the game so it’ll be interesting to see what they have to see now."

Five games undefeated and four clean sheets on the bounce for Morton. What a win tonight too.

Robbie Muirhead opened the scoring before Grant Gillespie the second on the follow-up after Mark Ridgers saved his initial penalty.

A David Carson own goal compounded Inverness' misery before half time and Cameron Blues slotted home the fourth after the interval.

Promotion contenders? Absolutely. Title challengers? Quite possibly.

It's very easy to try and hide when you're down 4-0 but Steven Boyd has not done that all night. He's one of a few Inverness players who can hold their heads up high.

Will Inverness get a consolation goal?

For all of Inverness' second-half possession, the home side were able to switch into attack within seconds.

Inverness, as mad as it may sound haven't played that poorly. They've lacked a clinical touch when it mattered in the final third, though.

Some individual errors haven't helped either.

    Cameron Blues

Morton announce themselves emphatically as promotion contenders.

Blues plays a smart one-two with Lewis McGrattan.

The former receives the second pass as he runs into the box and slips his shot past Cameron Mackay.

Billy Mckay is slipped in from the edge of the box but his angled shot can only hit the side netting.

If the opening half showcased Dougie Imrie's side's attacking qualities, this half is very much highlighting their defensive capabilities.

Every Inverness cross, dink, or pass into their final third has been swiftly dealt with.

    For now anyway...

Steven Boyd effortlessly spins away from his man in the middle of the park and drives towards goal but his final effort is ballooned over the bar.

Inverness have lacked a composed touch in front of goal tonight.

A decided lull in the action now.

Morton are remaining compact behind the ball and frustrating the away side as they try to play through the lines.

Another David Carson fall is fizzed in but skips up off of the pitch for Brian Schwake to pounce upon.

The first 10 minutes of this half pale in comparison to the opening 45, in terms of drama anyway.

A much more subdued affair so far as Morton look comfortable soaking up some Inverness pressure.
