They twice had to come from behind, but Manchester United got the job done.

Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford, speaking to Sky Sports: "It was a game of two halves. First half it was not great in possession so it was similar to the other day. The second half we played with a lot more confidence.
"They hold a high line, no defender likes to run backwards - it's pretty simple, we want to get in behind them. Both times we went behind we responded quickly and it is a massive shift in energy.
"Balls diagonally from full backs or from the middle to wide positions are always on, the second half we managed to time our runs a bit better.
"My aim is to enjoy my football and at the moment I am. If I am scoring goals and winning, then I am happy! I try to end up in a place for the goal. I would say I am more comfortable on the wing, back to goal I need to improve a lot on that."
On making England's World Cup squad: "It was just this morning [when he found out]. If you are performing at United then England will be round the corner. It will be a massive month for us, I am looking forward to that."

FPL Nemo: Garnacho is playing like how Sancho should be playing. A Utd wonderkid in the making. What a performance tonight. Eight games, first goal was the match winner and two assists..only 18!!!

We won't have to wait too long to find out who Manchester United will face in the next round as the fourth-round draw will be coming up shortly.
Manchester City, second in the Premier League, are the highest ranked team in it, Gillingham, 22nd in League Two, are the lowest.

What a fantastic second half of football. As it went on Manchester United were getting stronger and stronger. Villa had their chances - they were ahead twice in the game and giving a goal away eight or nine seconds after the restart when you've just scored is really poor.
To then allow United to get level a second time isn't great and then giving away the third goal you're not giving yourself an opportunity at Old Trafford.
United deservedly edged it.

Shane O'Neill: McTominay has been the best player on the pitch tonight. And Garnacho is going to be a superstar
James: Garnacho is one heck of a talent
Manchester United 4-2 Aston Villa
The first half was a non-event, the second was brilliant.
United move into the last 16, coming back from 1-0 and 2-1 down to win it 4-2.
Ollie Watkins put Villa ahead in the 48th minute, Anthony Martial instantly equalised, Diogo Dalot's own goal put Villa back in front, but United scored three more - through Marcus Rashford, Bruno Fernandes and Scott McTominay.
Manchester United 4-2 Aston Villa
Villa's Leon Bailey gets yellow for some petulance, kicking out at Lisandro Martinez. That's the sort of thing VAR would have been very interested in, but it's having a day off today.
Bailey stays on the pitch, in the Premier League he'd have probably been off.

Brilliant run from deep again by Scott McTominay.
What a bit of play from Alejandro Garnacho, he takes the long pass with a great first touch. He's bending it away from McTominay towards the far post but puts it right on the money.
McTominay sticks out a long leg and it's a sensational finish after a brilliant pass and just tops this second half.
Scott McTominay (Manchester United)
That will seal it. Scott McTominay comes storming in at the back post and gets his studs on to it to divert a volley on the stretch into the net, but what an angled pass from Alejandro Garnacho, perfectly weighted to drop over the head of Tyrone Mings.
That's two assists for Garnacho, four goals for United and the last 16 is waiting.
Manchester United 3-2 Aston Villa
Four minutes to go for Villa to save this one.

Bob Moor: When will teams learn this tippy tappy football at back is not worth the risk
Colin Bundred: Yet another “playing out from the back” give away. When will this madness stop?
Manchester United 3-2 Aston Villa
Scott McTominay nearly wraps up the win after a fine pass from Christian Eriksen. The Scot curls it goalwards from the corner of the penalty area and sees the ball bounce off the crossbar.
Eriksen then heads just over from 10 yards out.

Speaking as a United fan, protect Garnacho at all costs, play him in the big games and don't sell him, ever.

United captain Harry Maguire, on a yellow card, is very, very lucky to not be heading off the park. He grabs the arm of Ollie Watkins and concedes a free-kick but David Coote says it wasn't bad enough to deserve a second yellow. Debatable.
Manchester United 3-2 Aston Villa
Alejandro Garnacho is now needing a bit of treatment after getting a kick on the calf from Boubacar Kamara, but should be OK to continue.
A change at the back for United with Lisandro Martinez replacing Victor Lindelof.
Manchester United 3-2 Aston Villa
A sensational first touch from Alejandro Garnacho collecting a cross-field pass. The move comes to nothing but lovely skill from the teenager.

Alejandro Garnacho is causing Aston Villa all sorts of problems.
The Argentine's direct running has the Villa defenders spinning round and despite their experience, they are struggling to cope.
This has been a fantastic cameo from the youngster.
Manchester United 3-2 Aston Villa
What a prospect Alejandro Garnacho looks. The 18-year-old picks up the ball near the halfway line and close to the left touchline and is fast enough, direct enough and skilful enough to get inside the penalty area before his shot is blocked by some last-ditch Villa defending. Brilliant run.
