Aston Villa eased to a comfortable victory when these two sides met in the Premier League on Sunday.

And Erik ten Hag does not want to lose against Unai Emery's side for a second time in a week.

"Football teaches you lessons every time you play," he said in his programme notes.

"I want to see that my players learn those lessons.

"Everything we did right in those preceding games - starting properly, winning our battles and earning the right to victory - was absent from our performance at Villa Park."

Sunday's win for Villa over United came in Unai Emery's first game in charge following the sacking of Steven Gerrard.

"We are going to be playing away, so that is our first challenge - to be having the same performance as we did at home," said Emery.

"It is going to be different, but my idea is to create and build a team with the same style, but changing some players, to achieve our [needed] performance.

"Now our challenge is to keep the same performances in the next match. If we will do it, I think we can go one more step ahead."

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has challenged his players for a "reaction" after they lost 3-1 against tonight's opponents, Aston Villa, at Villa Park on Sunday.

"We want to play a strong team and we have only one aim: we have to win and we want to go to the next round," said Hag, speaking at a fans' question and answer session on Wednesday.

"We were not happy with our performance at Villa Park on Sunday. We made it quite clear in our analysis: it's not acceptable, it's never acceptable. We have to deliver every game and that is the culture that has to be here.

"We want a reaction and to get back to what I've seen over the last couple of months. A change in attitude, a better winning attitude and we have to bring that on the pitch."

Sulaimon Adelekan: Another game for Donny van de Beek to prove his merits a place in ETH's side. No sight of Sancho in the squad, he cant start in the Premier league and the Europa League and missed out on the World Cup. He definitely needs to rediscover himself.

Unai Emery makes seven changes to his starting line-up, including a start for former Manchester United title winner Ashley Young.

Emery secured two draws here as Arsenal manager and beat Manchester United in the Europa League final in 2021.

But his last two experiences were defeats in the Champions League.

There's no Cristiano Ronaldo in Manchester United's squad today, with Antony and Raphael Varane, who are in the Brazil and France World Cup squads respectively, also not being risked tonight.

Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo has today been named in Portugal's 26-man squad for the 2022 World Cup.

The 37-year-old has played 16 times, including 10 starts, for United this season and scored three goals.

"All the players called up come with the hunger to win and make Portugal world champions, Ronaldo included," said Portugal coach Fernando Santos.

There are 10 players from the Premier League in the squad.

Ronaldo's club team-mates Bruno Fernandes and Diogo Dalot, Manchester City's Joao Cancelo, Ruben Dias and Bernardo Silva, Fulham's Joao Palhinha and Wolves trio Jose Sa, Ruben Neves and Matheus Nunes have all been selected.

However, there were no spots for veteran Wolves midfielder Joao Moutinho and club team-mate Goncalo Guedes, with Paris St-Germain midfielder Renato Sanches also missing out.

Portugal will be without injured Liverpool forward Diogo Jota but Porto defender Pepe, 39, makes the cut.

Portugal, who are in Group H, open their World Cup campaign against Ghana on 24 November before taking on Uruguay on 28 November and South Korea on 2 December.

With the England squad announced today, it's a good chance to remember 23 of the 26 players heading to Qatar have had some involvement in the EFL - whether that's having come through an EFL academy or playing in the competition.
