Next up for England is Norway on Tuesday. Will Sarina Wiegman opt for a few changes then? Or is it all about consistency at this point?

England manager Sarina Wiegman, speaking to ITV: “We played a very good game, lots of football - they want to play football, too. They played in a shape that we haven’t had against us a lot, so it was good to practice that.

"Then they changed and in the second half changed back so we had to adapt all the time. I think we played very good. It was good to see us play so well, see different players and see the substitutes coming on and do a good job."

On Jess Park: “She had two minutes so you can’t see how she played. You saw two things actually, we had a long ball and you saw the strength of Ebony Salmon, her pace and good orientation. Jess just saw she had to be there and put the ball in the back of the net – I’ve only seen her smiling now.”

On Rachel Daly: “We talk about (her playing up front) all the time, she’s so versatile. She played a very good game as a right full-back now, too. She scored from that position. She’s obviously an option to try out in the front two but we have to see which players are available and what’s best for the team.”

On England’s progress: “We’re doing good, we’re developing. It was really nice to play Japan, a different style of play and we did really well tonight. Lots of different players too and it was good to see everything. It’s not the World Cup yet, it’s good to have played this game. Good practice and preparation for the World Cup.”

  5. 'Wiegman always looks so enthused and pleased'published at 21:15 Greenwich Mean Time 11 November 2022

    FT: England 4-0 Japan

Former England striker Ian Wright, speaking to ITV on Sarina Wiegman: "She always looks so enthused and pleased. Very honest. What she said about Jess Park, you can't really make that sort of thing up [it's just who she is]. She also spoke very kindly about Ebony Salmon."

"We've come up against a system that's different for us. At the same time Sarina found a way to adjust to it and win."

Inevitably, this will spark more conversation around England's World Cup campaign.

They have now beaten all four previous winners of the World Cup - the USA, Japan, Norway and Germany.

It's hard not to fancy their chances in Australia next year.

But let's not get ahead of ourselves.

  7. 'Fantastic to see Park score'published at 21:07 Greenwich Mean Time 11 November 2022

    FT: England 4-0 Japan

Former England striker Ian Wright, speaking to ITV: "I watched her (Jess Park) playing in the Merseyside derby and she was magnificent. I was thinking it can't be long before she gets called up and obviously she's been called up now.

"To see her come on and score like that is fantastic, and just watching her in the interview, it means the world."

    England

England debutant Jess Park, speaking on ITV: "I’m a bit overwhelmed at the minute, it’s absolutely amazing and I’m so honoured to play for my country and score a goal.

"I’ve dreamed of this ever since I was a young girl, now I’m here and it’s come true! My head has gone, I’m so happy."

On instructions from Sarina Wiegman: "She just said ‘go on, have fun and enjoy it.’ I went on and Ebs [Salmon] did all the work for me, I just had to slot it in."

On making her debut: "I don’t think there are any words to describe it. It’s just absolutely unbelievable.

"We’re just taking it game by game but we’re here to say something and go as far as we can. We’re going to have so much confidence going into the next game."

Former England midfielder Karen Carney, speaking on ITV: "It's what dreams are made of for Jess Park. Salmon bullies the defender off the ball, keeps her composure and Park manages to get it in. What a moment.

"She is brilliant, really talented. It's good to see her get a couple of minutes on debut. Agile, low centre of gravity."

GOAL - England 4-0 Japanpublished at 20:48 Greenwich Mean Time 11 November 2022

    Jess Park (90 mins)

    A dream debut!

Ebony Salmon chases Moeka Minami all the way down the pitch and manages to shove her off the ball just by the corner flag. Salmon drives into the six-yard box and cuts back to Jess Park.

It's just behind Park but she sticks a leg out and manages to get it under control and taps in to an open goal.

Fantastic moment for the 21-year-old on her first England appearance.

    England 3-0 Japan

I think that's one of the first times Mary Earps has actually had to make a save.

Yui Hasagawa manages to get a shot off from the middle of the penalty area and there is some power behind it but it's straight down the throat of England goalkeeper Earps.

Easy save for the experienced shot-stopper.

Japan just enjoying a bit of a spell here.

Yui Hasegawa receives the ball in a dangerous area but can't get the ball out of her feet. England just struggle to clear their lines but eventually they do and it's Lauren James who manages to get it away from England's box.
