Former England striker Ian Wright, speaking on ITV: “I’ve been very impressed by how England have played and closed Japan down.

"It’s disappointing for Japan that they haven’t been able to get out with how England have pressed them. I don’t know where the goal is going to come from for Japan other than from a set piece.”

There are some uncapped players on England's bench this evening - Maya Le Tissier, Jess Park and Katie Robinson are all waiting to see if they will get their moment from the bench.

Will we see England debuts for any of them?

A decent half from England and I think Sarina Wiegman will be happy with what she's seen so far.

When they can keep hold of the ball, Japan are really technical and could be a bit dangerous.

But England haven't really given them much opportunity to do that so far.

And that will be all from this half. England head into the break one goal to the good thanks to that moment of quality from Rachel Daly.

A reminder that England have conceded just six goals in their 24 games under Sarina Wiegman, scoring 121 goals.

Really nice play from Japan.

Mana Iwabuchi does really well and turns her defender, finding Yui Hasegawa who plays a little one two back to Iwabuchi but there's a foul in there from Millie Bright.

England's wall do their job from the resulting free-kick.

I was just thinking how strange it is seeing Rachel Daly playing back at right-back after a few weeks of watching her up front for Aston Villa.

Clearly she just fancied a pop herself and she showed just why that's her favoured position with that goal.

Japan have defended really well so far.

Former England midfielder Karen Carney, speaking on ITV: "Brilliant save. England's pressing was really good again, Beth Mead was slid in but it was a really strong right hand from Yamashita."

Oh wow.

Another huge chance for England.

They're pressing really hard and Japan lose the ball deep in their own half.

Ella Toone manages to get it out wide to Beth Mead who sweeps a right-footed shot in but Ayaka Yamashita gets a hand to it and it's a really good save. The ball dribbles out for a corner.

Chloe Kelly again in the heart of the action. She manages to nip the ball away from Japan and Ella Toone gets a little pass away to Alessia Russo.

Russo goes for goal but it's an ambitious shot and it sails over the bar.

Oooooooh.

Chloe Kelly has looked so dangerous down that left-hand side, she plays in a fantastic ball to Alessia Russo who is on the six-yard line and should do better. Her header is inches wide but what a chance that was.

Big opportunity for England.

Ella Toone picks up a lose ball and plays it in to Georgia Stanway but she's completely surrounded by Japan defenders and they manage to clear the danger.

Niamh Charles plays it out wide to Chloe Kelly and sends in a superb ball to Alessia Russo but the Manchester United forward can't quite get a toe to it, under pressure from two Japan defenders.

It was a lovely ball from Kelly.

Better stuff from Japan.

Passing with a bit of pace. Well, as much as the pitch is allowing.

Decent effort from Yui Hasegawa, she cuts in on her left and fires a shot down to Mary Earps' left but it's a comfortable save for the England goalie.

Japan have a corner and opt to take it short. Yui Hasegawa sends in the delivery and Beth Mead is the first to get a head on it.

Possession stats suggest it's all England but they are being pressed by Japan.

Keira Walsh is put under a bit of pressure in the middle of the park from Manchester City's Yui Hasegawa. But she's on her own and can't get the ball out of her feet to find a pass.

England latching onto all these loose balls.
