  1. Say hello to the new(ish) bosspublished at 14:47 Greenwich Mean Time 10 December 2022

    Middlesbrough v Luton (15:00 GMT)

There can't be many managers who take over a team mid-season and then have to wait 23 days to lead them in a game.

That's been the case for new Luton gaffer Rob Edwards though after he was appointed as Nathan Jones' successor shortly after the Championship was paused for the World Cup.

"It's been a strange time for everyone, unique, I think, to have this long a period off," Edwards, who started the campaign in charge of rivals Watford, told BBC Three Counties Radio.

"I think some clubs will respond really well and others will maybe find it a little bit more difficult, so I'm hoping we respond in a really good way with performances, and hopefully results as well."

Middlesbrough manager Michael Carrick also took over mid-season and has seen his new charges claim three wins from their past four matches.

  2. CLOSE!published at 14:45 Greenwich Mean Time 10 December 2022

    Reading 0-0 Coventry

Coventry almost get their noses in front just before the break through a set-piece.

A foul on Jamie Allen just outside the box allows Gustavo Hamer the chance to put his side ahead with a free-kick, but the shot goes narrowly wide of the Royals' goal.

After a promising opening, this half has failed to really catch fire and with half-time on the horizon we've only had the one shot on target.

  3. Toure's stern test on managerial debutpublished at 14:43 Greenwich Mean Time 10 December 2022

    Millwall v Wigan (15:00 GMT)

    Kolo ToureImage source, Getty Images

A fair bit has changed since we last saw a full EFL Saturday schedule and one of the top lines during the four-week break for the World Cup is Wigan's appointment of Kolo Toure as manager.

It is the former Arsenal defender's first job in management after spending the past five years coaching at Celtic and Leicester City under Brendan Rodgers.

He replaces Leam Richardson who was sacked last month and it's not an easy opener for the Ivorian as he prepares his struggling side for a trip to seventh-placed Millwall.

The Den is never an easy place to go and Gary Rowett's side have won seven of their last 10 at home, so Wigan will be hoping a new manager bounce can see them pick up the three points and move them out of the relegation zone.

  4. Canaries aiming to get back on track against Swanspublished at 14:41 Greenwich Mean Time 10 December 2022

    Swansea v Norwich (15:00 GMT)

    Josh SargentImage source, Getty Images

The Canaries made a great start to the season which saw them rise to second with 23 points after 11 games - but they have won just two of 10 games since.

Dean Smith is hoping to have the Championship's joint-top scorer Josh Sargent available following his World Cup exploits with the United States to help his side get back on track.

Norwich start the game just a point ahead of their opponents who are without a win in their last five matches - four of which have been draws.

But that poor run of form will be easily forgotten should they take all three points and propel themselves above the Canaries and into the play-off spots.

  5. Scrapping Terriers hope to dull Bladespublished at 14:37 Greenwich Mean Time 10 December 2022

Sheff Utd v Huddersfield (15:00 GMT)

    Image caption,

It's been a quiet few weeks for Sheffield United mascot Captain Blade. I hope he hasn't been sat there the whole time!

There's always a bit of spice with a Yorkshire derby at any stage of the season and today's game at Bramall Lane will be no exception with both teams needing points for very different reasons.

Paul Heckingbottom's Blades could go top with a win, while the Terriers start the day at the bottom of the Championship table.

Sheffield United forward Iliman Ndiaye is back from his World Cup exploits with Senegal and starts.

  6. YELLOW CARDpublished at 14:33 Greenwich Mean Time 10 December 2022

    Reading 0-0 Coventry

A first booking of the afternoon goes Coventry's way as Michael Doyle fouls Royals striker Yakou Meite about 25 yards out from goal.

Still plenty of time for the two sides to grab the all-important opening goal before the break here.

    • Ipswich held on for a priceless 2-1 win over Peterborough which has taken them top of the table thanks to Conor Chaplin's double. Plymouth will seek to leapfrog Town in the next couple of hours.
    • Chey Dunkley's last-gasp header ensured Shrewsbury win for just the second time in 12 games against Bolton, who have slipped to sixth in the live league table. The Shrews are up to ninth.
  8. Postpublished at 14:30 Greenwich Mean Time 10 December 2022

    Reading 0-0 Coventry

It's Coventry still probing for the opener as Callum O'Hare drills a nicely-struck shot at goal which warms the hands of Reading keeper Joe Lumley.

Gustavo Hamer then tries to go one better and add to his four goals this season, but his strike is off-target.

Bristol City take the three points and register their first win since 18 October.

The away side took the lead through an own goal from Wes Harding before Chiedozie Ogbene levelled with a header.

A Joe Williams goal restored the away side's lead before the break and Cameron Pring's header in the second half sealed the victory.

The Robins move up two places to 16th, while the Millers slip one spot to 17th.

Chey Dunkley conceded the penalty from which Bolton went 2-1 ahead and he's just headed home from close range two minutes into added time to make it 3-2 to Shrewsbury. What a game!

James Collins has headed Derby into the lead inside 10 minutes at Burton in the 14:00 GMT kick-off.

  11. Postpublished at 14:23 Greenwich Mean Time 10 December 2022

    Reading 0-0 Coventry

A couple of openings for the visitors now.

First, Jake Bidwell heads wide from Gustavo Hamer's corner, before Ben Sheaf fires a long-range effort over the bar.

With all of Coventry's off-field problems this season, they've stayed focused and been doing remarkably well on the pitch.

  12. Postpublished at 14:22 Greenwich Mean Time 10 December 2022

    Rotherham 1-3 Bristol City

Into five minutes of time added on.

Bristol City look set to snap their six-match winless run.

  13. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 14:17 Greenwich Mean Time 10 December 2022

    Reading 0-0 Coventry

An injury stoppage stems the early flow of the game as Royals defender Tom Holmes is in need of some attention following an aerial challenge.

He won't be able to continue and is replaced by Tom McIntyre.

Shortly after play restarts Yakou Meite catches Coventry's Jonathan Panzo dithering and the ball is fed to Tom Ince - but he fires high and wide.

  14. Postpublished at 14:14 Greenwich Mean Time 10 December 2022

    Rotherham 1-3 Bristol City

Time running out for the home side now.

This result would see them slip to 17th in the table, while Bristol City are set to move up two places to 16th.

Christian Saydee cares not for Bolton's impressive record against Shrewsbury, he has slammed in Tom Flanagan's fine cross to make it 2-2 in a see-saw game.

Still 10 minutes left, can either side find a winner?

  16. Postpublished at 14:09 Greenwich Mean Time 10 December 2022

    Reading 0-0 Coventry

The ball is in the Coventry net early on courtesy of the returning Junior Hoilett, but the whistle had already gone for a foul by Royals team-mate Yakou Meite.

Good start for the hosts against the in-form Sky Blues - well they were in form before the World Cup, if you see what I mean.

  17. League One latestpublished at 14:07 Greenwich Mean Time 10 December 2022

We said Bolton have a great record against Shrewsbury and they have turned it around to lead 2-1 inside the final 10 minutes.

Dion Charles now has two for the day and nine for the season after converting from the penalty spot after Dapo Afolayan was brought down in the box by Chey Dunkley.

  18. goal

GOAL: Rotherham 1-3 Bristol Citypublished at 14:05 Greenwich Mean Time 10 December 2022

    Cameron Pring (74 mins)

    Game over?

Sub Cameron Pring heads home from a brilliant centre from Alex Scott, who had been denied by Viktor Johansson in the home goal just a few moments earlier, and the away side are in full control now.

That's the 24-year-old's first goal for the club.

  19. KICK-OFFpublished at 14:01 Greenwich Mean Time 10 December 2022

    Reading 0-0 Coventry

Our third game of the afternoon is under way in Berkshire.

Baba Rahman and Junior Hoilett are back for the Royals after appearing at the World Cup for Ghana and Canada respectively, while Tom Ince, Yakou Meite and Andy Carroll all start.

Defender Michael Rose is the only change for the Sky Blues as they look to make it a fifth win on the bounce without conceding - something they've never done before.

    14:00 GMT kick-offs

It's important to check on your neighbours when temperatures tumble at this time of year so it's fitting that Derby are heading to Burton and Cheltenham are visiting Forest Green in the 14:00 GMT kick-offs which are just getting underway.
