  1. 'Martial sticks it away'published at 26 mins

    Manchester United 2-0 Nottingham Forest

    Alan Shearer
Former England striker on Amazon Prime

Superb pace on the break. It was a matter of picking the right pass at the right time. I said it would be a big game for Martial and he sticks it away really well.

What a finish, the keeper is just going to his left hand side and can't get down quick enough. Manchester United are looking good and playing well.

  2. 'Hennessey's got to save that one'published at 26 mins

    Manchester United 2-0 Nottingham Forest

    Michael Brown
Former Manchester City midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

That's a great touch. A load of space for Rashford. He's been magnificent, plays a great pass across the face of the 18-yard area and it's met by Martial in the middle.

It's slippy, but Wayne Hennessey's got to save that one. His feet just give way. He'll be disappointed with that.

  3. That plan workedpublished at 25 mins

    Manchester United 2-0 Nottingham Forest

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport at Old Trafford

You could tell Manchester United had worked on their opening goal.

Marcus Rashford started off at the far post and arced a run into the box and Raphael Varane began to make his way to the six-yard area.

Nottingham Forest's defence didn't track the run and Rashford had space to execute a fine finish.

Forest are in trouble now. They haven't scored a Premier League away goal since August.

  4. goal

GOAL - Manchester United 2-0 Nottingham Forestpublished at 22 mins

    Anthony Martial

Marcus Rashford scores the first and gets an assist for the second.

Casemiro starts the move, winning the ball inside his own penalty area. United break at pace down the left, Rashford's cross finds Anthony Martial and his shot is through the legs of Willy Boly and into the net.

Wayne Hennessey gets both hands to the effort and should do better, but can't keep it out. Two goals in three minutes for the hosts and Forest have a huge, huge challenge now.

  5. 'The goalkeeper has no chance'published at 20 mins

    Manchester United 1-0 Nottingham Forest

    Michael Brown
Former Manchester City midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

I can't believe that. I'm thinking surely not, he can't find the corner here. The ball's good, it's a great set-piece. He's got another goal!

A brilliant story, we've been talking about him so much. The timing of it is brilliant, he just uses the pace of the ball, sweeps it into the far corner, and the goalkeeper has no chance.

  6. goal

GOAL - Manchester United 1-0 Nottingham Forestpublished at 19 mins

    Marcus Rashford

A goal from the training ground. Christian Eriksen takes a corner, sends it in low and Marcus Rashford runs away from his marker and, close to the penalty spot, lifts a finish high into the net past Wayne Hennessey.

    Forest sleeping, United leading.

  7. Postpublished at 19 mins

    Manchester United 0-0 Nottingham Forest

Tyrell Malacia having a shot diverted on to the post by Wayne Hennessey is the closest we've had to a goal so far, while David de Gea at the other end has had nothing to do yet.

  8. Postpublished at 17 mins

    Manchester United 0-0 Nottingham Forest

Christian Eriksen takes the corner, but it doesn't make its way past the defender at the near post, Joe Worrall. Waste.

  9. Postpublished at 16 mins

    Manchester United 0-0 Nottingham Forest

Christian Eriksen tries an effort at goal but it is blocked by Joe Worrall.

But United win a corner shortly afterwards...

  10. Varane needs to be alertpublished at 16 mins

    Manchester United 0-0 Nottingham Forest

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport at Old Trafford

Erik ten Hag has been encouraging Aaron Wan-Bissaka to push forward when Manchester United have the ball.

It means when United lose it, there is space down the side of Raphael Varane.

Already the Frenchman has had to make two important interceptions to prevent Forest players getting a run at the home goal.

  11. Postpublished at 14 mins

    Manchester United 0-0 Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest win a corner after a bright run from Ryan Yates. Renan Lodi moves across to take it, with a left-footed inswinger but United's Tyrell Malacia does well to head the delivery away.

Luke Shaw not really playing centre half: he's drifting out to the left with Casemiro covering. They're overloading the left side.

  13. Postpublished at 11 mins

    Manchester United 0-0 Nottingham Forest

Jesse Lingard tries to release Forest striker Taiwo Awoniyi but Raphael Varane, back in Premier League action earlier than he may have expected after playing in the World Cup final, does well to cut it out.

  14. 'Bright start for United'published at 11 mins

    Manchester United 0-0 Nottingham Forest

    Michael Brown
Former Manchester City midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

It was a bright start and the big chance came from Manchester United, Aaron Wan-Bissaka drifting across. Tyrell Malacia hits it really well and it's off the post.

Forest are doing OK, they're moving the ball around. Jesse Lingard is taking a role centrally in the front three, just on the back of United's midfield.

  16. HITS THE WOODWORK - Malacia (Manchester United)published at 6 mins

    Manchester United 0-0 Nottingham Forest

The hosts come so close to taking a sixth-minute lead. It came from a shot from left-back Tyrell Malacia and he strikes it lovely from 10 yards out but Wayne Hennessey in the Forest goal does excellently to get down to push it on to the left post.

  17. Makeshift centre-halfpublished at 3 mins

Luke Shaw has started alongside Raphael Varane in central defence for Manchester United, with Aaron Wan-Bissaka at right-back and Tyrell Malacia on the left.

  18. Postpublished at 2 mins

Marcus Rashford, on the left of United's front three, looks to chase on to a long ball forward but Orel Mangala does well to wipe out any early danger.

Luke Shaw, as expected, is playing as a left-sided centre half.

It's an absolutely filthy evening in the Manchester rain.

We've just had a minute's applause for England 1966 World Cup winner George Cohen, who sadly passed recently.

And the game has just started.

  20. Ex-Forest and Man Utd star Anderson is herepublished at 19:59 Greenwich Mean Time 27 December 2022

Manchester United v Nottingham Forest (20:00 GMT)

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport at Old Trafford

Viv Anderson served both these clubs with distinction so its fitting he is here in the directors' box for tonight's game.

Anderson was part of the glorious Forest team that won successive European Cups under Brian Clough in 1979 and 1980, then, after a stint at Arsenal, became Sir Alex Ferguson's first signing as Manchester United manager.
