Paul Lummis: One day, Premier League referees are going to stop giving free-kicks when Grealish dives. One day...

Richard Browne: Was genuinely hopefuly that Pep could mould Grealish into an actual team player. Guess not.

Dan: City's kit has more of an 'FA Cup/Cup Winners' Cup' feel about it, to me - they've won those competitions in the red and black stripes.

  2. Grealish not a home fans' favouritepublished at 20:27 Greenwich Mean Time 28 December 2022

I said earlier on that the Leeds fans were targeting Jack Grealish.

Well, after he went down just then, every time he touches the ball he is getting booed.

It is a reminder of his Aston Villa days, when the Leeds fans felt he went down too easily. Their opinion has not changed.

Despite starting only seven of 15 games, Jack Grealish is Manchester City's most fouled player in the Premier League this season.

He's been fouled 19 times in those matches.

Lots of boos for Jack Grealish every time he gets the ball, not that he'll let it bother him.

City are back in control for the time being. They're up to 240 passes, compared to 77 for Leeds.

Pep Guardiola passes on some instructions to John Stones and Manuel Akanji as play is stopped to allow Jack Grealish to receive some attention.

Leeds have a good shape about them. They're working a 4-3-3 formation with no gaps through the middle.

When they do get the ball, they try to counter-attack. That leaves space for Man City to counter-attack, so that's where we're seeing space.

Leeds are trying to force City around the outside. City are probing away - they'll be patient, as always.

Adam Forshaw's enthusiasm sees him concede a free-kick midway into his own half.

Manchester City work it short but Ilkay Gundogan doesn't hang around and drives a low shot towards goal.

It looks as though Illan Meslier may have not had a clear view of that. He stays rooted to the spot as the ball rolls just wide of his right post.

Manchester City had 73.5% possession over the opening 15 minutes.

They've had all four shots so far but Leeds are working so hard to keep this level.

Leeds boss Jesse Marsch is not hiding his displeasure at a number of borderline decisions that have gone against his team.

The American needs to be careful as I can imagine referee Stuart Attwell coming over for word at some point if he doesn't calm down.

There's a hint Leeds are starting to grow in confidence and belief.

The home support get right behind Brenden Aaronson who is relentless in his pressing. That's what they want to see!

  12. 'Kalvin Phillips needs games'published at 20:17 Greenwich Mean Time 28 December 2022

Kalvin Phillips didn't get many minutes in the World Cup and needs to get games under his belt.

Pep seems to do this with players who haven't played very much in the first half of the season, he tends to start to give them minutes in the second half of the season. He did it with Gabriel Jesus last year. All of a sudden, from giving him nothing, he came to the fore in the second half of the season.

It'll be interesting to see how he goes with all these fixtures coming up. But Pep normally gets it right, doesn't he?

The TV camera turns to Kalvin Phillips on the touchline. Will he get some game time tonight as he works back towards full fitness, as demanded by his manager?

It's Leeds' turn to enjoy some possession now but the referee blows for a foul on Jack Grealish as he nips in to a tackle against Marc Roca - sparking the Leeds bench into action. Jesse Marsch is not happy with that one at all...

Ah, frustrating. Adam Forshaw thwarts another Manchester City move but then misplaces his pass, allowing the visitors to restart.

Pep Guardiola's side have had over 80% of the ball - but it feels like more.

But after a frantic start, the Leeds players are beginning to look a lot more settled and organised, and another City advance is rejected.

We had a minutes' applause for England's World Cup-winning right-back George Cohen before kick-off.

Cohen's main attribute was his pace and, clearly, he was a very talented player.

However, it shows how the position has developed in recent years that Rico Lewis is playing alongside Rodri as a midfield pivot when Manchester City have the ball, is an additional wide player when they attack and he also has to defend.

Full-back is one of the most complicated positions on the pitch these days.

You know that nervous, muted cheer followed by a low murmur of concern? The one that comes after a shot from the opposition goes wide when it looked for all of the world like the net was going to ripple?

The Leeds fans just went through that process in response to that Kevin de Bruyne effort.

    City are controlling this.
