    Rangers 0-1 Celtic

Allan McGregor has to tip Callum McGregor's weak effort around the post.

I think that might have been going wide, but the experienced Rangers keeper takes no chances in the 41st derby of his career.

The pressing that Celtic do is with much more urgency than what Rangers do, and that is frustrating the supporters.

Celtic are playing their football now. Rangers are trying to close them down but they look a bit sluggish for me. They might be better sitting off for a bit, Celtic are exploiting those gaps in midfield.

That goal has naturally settled Celtic, after Rangers started slightly better.

Ange Postecoglou's men are the masters of the fast start. Long way to go yet, though.

  8. CLOSE!published at 12:40 Greenwich Mean Time 2 January 2023

    Rangers 0-1 Celtic

Daizen Maeda is up for this. He storms past James Tavernier and flashes a ball right across goal, but there are no Celtic takers.

Morelos has started shockingly. He has been bullied by Starfelt and Carter-Vickers. I don't know why he plays that blind pass, because everyone and their dog knows that Celtic smother in that area.

Really sharp from Maeda. It's a really bad ball to play so early in the game. He will delighted with that and give Maeda huge confidence. That will settle Celtic down.

GOAL - Rangers 0-1 Celticpublished at 5 mins

    Daizen Maeda

The leaders make another fast start!

A truly horrible pass from Alfredo Morelos back to James Tavernier is picked off by Maeda, and he skips past Connor Goldson and slides the ball past Allan McGregor.

So sharp from the Japanese forward. But shocking from Rangers, who had started brightly.

    Rangers 0-0 Celtic

Malik Tillman is fouled by Celtic's Daizen Maeda, which gives Rangers a free kick about 30 yards out.

It's clipped in by Borna Barisic, but Celtic clear. It's fast and furious as usual.

  13. Postpublished at 12:33 Greenwich Mean Time 2 January 2023

Ooft, a shot on target inside 20 seconds for Rangers.

Ryan Kent lets fly from 20 yards, but it's a comfortable one for Joe Hart.

A reminder that the referee this afternoon is the experienced John Beaton. The VAR - the first ever in these derbies - is the experienced Willie Collum.

Now, a minute's silence for those who lost their lives in the Ibrox stadium disaster on this day 52 years ago...

Rangers have to be full of confidence. If things go wrong, you have to believe you can come back. The league will say Celtic are the better team at the moment, I concede that, but Rangers have to have belief.

This game is about being switched on 100%, it's about having it all in the tank, it's about doing what you're on the park to do,

You can hear the noise on the radio coverage. When the players walk out at Ibrox it's going to be LOUD.

    We're five minutes from kick-off. Who's winning?

Thumbs up for Rangers, thumbs down for Celtic.
