Thanks for joining us today - we will return tomorrow with all the build-up to England v Wales, plus all the news from Qatar and the wider world of football.

    See you then.

  2. Latest from Qatarpublished at 16:49 Greenwich Mean Time 28 November 2022

    HT: Brazil 0-0 Switzerland

Unfortunately neither of these sides have caught the goal bug which infected the earlier two games - goalless and rather drab at half-time.

The most interesting moment - other than a few saves from Swiss keeper Yann Sommer - was when the lights briefly went down shortly before half time. Someone put 50 riyal in the meter and we were able to continue.

Brazil look to be badly missing the injured Neymar. Hopefully they, or their opponents, will discover a spark in the second half.

Just the 1,000 years or so of history to sum up, Gareth...

To laughter, Southgate gestures with his hands saying "they are here and we are here".

"It is like any two countries whose borders are next to each other. There is a competitive rivalry.

"For me it is a great sporting rivalry, that feeling might not be mutual but I live in Yorkshire and they feel the same about the rest of England.

"It will be a fantastic atmosphere in the stadium and we're looking forward to the game."

Southgate is asked about what he thinks about the refereeing at the tournament so far.

"Our game the other night the referee had a good tolerance level for challenges, allowing the game to flow.

"It was quite a physical game and on another night there could have been yellows both ways, but he didn't do that and managed the game well."

  7. 'We're not here to give out caps'published at 16:29 Greenwich Mean Time 28 November 2022

England v Wales (Tuesday, 19.00 GMT)

Southgate is asked about whether he plans to make any big changes to his squad in order to give his squad more playing time.

"We have 26 players, but we have a major tournament. It is not about giving caps out.

"We have a brilliant group. Players will be disappointed if they're not playing and if we have other camps through out the year we try to give minutes when we can.

"But, in a World Cup you can't be thinking that way.

"We are fortunate we have really good professionals, but I know it is tough.

"The squad has been ready in previous tournaments and supported us throughout."

  8. Bale capable of 'moments of brilliance'published at 16:29 Greenwich Mean Time 28 November 2022

England v Wales (Tuesday, 19:00 GMT)

Southgate is asked about how to defend against Wales captain Gareth Bale.

"It depends a little bit on what role he plays of course, but we know he is capable of those individual moments of brilliance in and around the penalty area, as well as from distance."

  9. Wales have some world class players - Southgatepublished at 16:25 Greenwich Mean Time 28 November 2022

England v Wales (Tuesday, 19.00 GMT)

Gareth Southgate is asked what he thinks are the main qualities of Wales and potential problems his side may face.

"They obviously have some world class players who can produce moments of brilliance.

"They have a good spirit and organisation and we know the quality of the Ukraine team they beat to get to these finals and they have additional motivation to play against England.

"So we have to be prepared for all of those things and focus on our own performance."

  10. Southgate: Kane is fit to playpublished at 16:24 Greenwich Mean Time 28 November 2022

England v Wales (Tuesday, 19.00 GMT)

Gareth Southgate is asked about whether Harry Kane needs a rest, as well as his previous comments that it would take a brave manager to leave England's striker and captain out of the team.

He doesn't answer the question directly, but does say: "Obviously we're going to pick a team that we believe can win the game.

"Harry's fine in terms of the knock he had, everybody keeps saying it's his ankle but it's his foot.

"At this point we've got pretty much available to select from which is a great position to be it. It makes decisions difficult of course, but what you want is a fully fit squad and that's where we're at."

England v Wales (Tuesday, 19.00 GMT)

"It's part and parcel of the game.

"It is going to be emotional and there are different challenges that come up in tournament football and it's how you deal with them.

"Hopefully we'll do it in the right way."

The England manager is asked about whether the game as a must win.

"We want to win football matches. We have got to balance freshness with stability so that is always the decision we are making when picking the team.

"There is a lot for both teams resting on it, there is no game where there isn't pressure.

"Our performance is the key, we played well in the first game and scored a lot of goals. The second was tougher."
