New signing Max Wober (above), who arrived at Elland Road this week on a four-and-a-half-year deal from Red Bull Salzburg, could make his debut in the Leeds defence.

However, the game may come too early for striker Patrick Bamford, who returned to training this week after undergoing groin surgery during the World Cup break.

Adam Forshaw (hip) and Luis Sinisterra (foot) remain unavailable, as does Stuart Dallas, who has had a third operation because of an infection as he recovers from a fractured femur.

Hudson has vowed to field a strong side, but revealed he may have to rest "one or two" unnamed players because of illness.

The only previous FA Cup meeting between Derby County and Barnsley came back in January 1897 in the first round, with the Rams winning 8-1. It remains their biggest ever FA Cup win. With this game coming 125 years and 343 days after the last in the FA Cup, this is the biggest gap between a fixture being played in the FA Cup proper, breaking the record of Burnley vs West Brom (119y 343d, 1889-2009).

The Rams are in pretty decent shape at the moment, unbeaten in 10 games in all competitions. Their only loss in 15 is the penalty shootout defeat by Liverpool in the League Cup. They've been knocked out in the third round of the FA Cup in each of the last two seasons, including by non-league Chorley.

Michael Duff's Barnsley had been in fine form until they were dealt a 3-0 loss by Bolton last time out in a game affected by an early red card. They remain in the play-off places, though. The Tykes have fine form in the FA Cup third round. They've won each of their last three ties at this stage.

Meanwhile, in Derby, Barnsley continue to dominate the opening stages.

It's already shaping up to be a decent game here.

Swansea break after a Bristol City free-kick into the box. The ball is fed wide and driven in low but Bristol keeper Max O'Leary dives and gathers before a number of Swans players can get a touch.

It is very much a bottom-half-of-the-Championship affair between Bristol City and Swansea, with 19th taking on 15th (although to be fair, the second-tier table changes drastically by the week).

Swans are actually only four points adrift of the top six, but have taken just 11 points from their last 10 games. Having gone eight without a win, they recently beat Watford 4-0.

Bristol City have had a poor run of their own recently, taking just four points from eight games to leave them three points above the bottom three.

Barnsley have started well.

They almost lead too as Thomas Edwards gets his head to a corner at the near post to glance a header on target and force home keeper Joe Wildsmith into a good save.

For a second it looks like a Tykes player will follow up but Derby are able to smuggle the ball away from goal.

A good early chance for Bristol City as they win a free-kick inside the first 10 seconds. It is near the edge of the Swansea box.

Alex Scott - who is very highly-rated and being monitored by plenty of Premier League teams - steps up and punts his effort over the bar.

We are under way in the two early games at Derby and Bristol City. A chance for League One and the Championship to take centre stage in the FA Cup.

Besides the game at the Etihad later on, there are two Premier League teams in action.

First up, at 14:00 GMT, Leeds face a tricky trip to Cardiff - a club that has delighted in getting more than one over the Whites in recent years and who dumped them out of the FA Cup third round in 2001-02 when David O'Leary's team were top of the Premier League.

After that, at 16:30, Villa host Stevenage, who are flying in League Two and will hope to give a very good account of themselves against a Villa side that have had a new lease of life breathed into them by Unai Emery.

Wolves boss Julen Lopetegui says it was "impossible" that his side had a winning goal ruled out at Anfield.

Lopetegui, who went into referee Andrew Madley's room with captain Ruben Neves after the game, said the offside "doesn't exist" and that it was a "pity" because his players "deserved to pass to the next round".

He was also angry that Mohamed Salah's goal, which put Liverpool 2-1 ahead, was allowed to stand, despite the Egypt forward appearing to be in an offside position when the ball was played to him during the build-up.

Speaking to ITV, Lopetegui said: "We have seen it, the offside doesn't exist, I'm sorry. It's impossible.

"Someone has told him it's offside, but we've seen the images, it doesn't exist.

"The decision is wrong. I make mistakes every day, and sometimes they do too. Today we have the help of VAR, and it is a pity, because I'm sorry, it's not offside."

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp said: "I'm not sure about their third goal. We have one picture where it may look offside, but I can understand why they are angry about it. We don't want the VAR to just have one angle."

Is it actually lunchtime in Derby? The weather there means it looks like it's 8pm. The skies are dark grey, the rain is falling, the floodlights are on. I mean, it's proper FA Cup football conditions.

It wouldn't be the FA Cup without a bit of controversy (and it being modern football, it inevitably has a VAR tinge to it).

The final game of yesterday served up a thriller at Anfield as Liverpool and Wolves drew 2-2. The visitors, though, thought they had won it when centre-back Toti flicked in.

However, the assistant referee had his flag up for offside against Matheus Nunes, who had taken the original corner and picked up the ball on the left after Hwang Hee-chan nudged it back to the wing.

The video assistant referee (VAR) had no camera angle available to provide any evidence to overturn the decision, meaning Wolves had to settle for a 2-2 draw.

Well, that is coming up at around 16:05 GMT today during the BBC's build-up to the Man City-Chelsea game.

It will be hosted by Mark Chapman, with the balls drawn by Emile Heskey and Karen Bardsley.

The fourth round is scheduled to be played between Friday 27 January 2023 and Monday 30 January 2023.

...then there's Sunderland avoiding a shock by the skin of their teeth thanks to two late goals, Ipswich's 4-1 hammering of Rotherham, Alexis Mac Allister and co lighting up the Riverside and Southampton claiming a morale-boosting win at Palace.

Today we have eight more ties, promising yet more excitement and potential upsets.

We start with an all-Championship and all-League One clash and then start building to what I'm sure many see as the big tie of the round - part two of this week's Man City-Chelsea double-header.

I've just opened there with a small sample of some of the thrills, spills, shocks and scrapes we were treated to during the 21 FA Cup ties served up on third-round Saturday.

We lost six Premier League teams over Friday and Saturday, with Everton, Crystal Palace, Nottingham Forest, Bournemouth, Brentford and Newcastle all gone. With two all-Premier League ties still to be decided they are guaranteed to be joined by two more top-tier clubs. In addition, Leeds, Aston Villa and Arsenal are taking on lower-league opposition before the weekend is out, so there is plenty of scope for further upsets involving Premier League teams. Over half the top flight could be gone before round four.

It was a good day for non-league teams too, with three of them guaranteed to at least be in the hat for the draw later. Wrexham stunned Coventry 4-3, while Boreham Wood and Chesterfield both earned draws, the latter heartbreakingly denied a win in injury time by West Brom.
