    Man City 3-0 Chelsea

    Phil McNulty

The hint of rebellion among Chelsea's fans as they chant in praise of former manager Thomas Tuchel. This has been a very sobering day for them. They look light years away from the standards previously set.

Potter needs time to do what he does. Chelsea are building a lasting project behind the scenes. Clear out those who do not fit within it and give the man a couple of years. I would even cash in on a few of the younger big names and avoid signing average players for 50M+. We're not under the previous owners anymore. Time to move on and embrace the difficulties of a long term plan. Problem is, too many fans still want the circus because it brought good times.

Conor: I have got behind all our managers expect for Benitez but I'm sorry Potter isn't ready for a club with this many egos. Yes we have injuries but I still don't see how he wants us to play and we are lambs to the slaughter. No point dragging it out, let him go and beg Tuchel to come back.

  9. SUBSTITUTIONSpublished at 17:53 Greenwich Mean Time 8 January 2023

    Man City 3-0 Chelsea

Joao Cancelo is taken out by Chelsea and England midfielder Conor Gallagher and he can have no complaints at the yellow card making an appearance shortly afterwards.

Another couple of changes for Chelsea with Jorginho and Hakim Ziyech off. Midfielder Omari Hutchinson comes on for only his second Chelsea appearance, along with club captain Cesar Azpilicueta.

Not a bad way to open your account for the club. But check out the build-up. Some lovely one-touch passing...

They got to cause Villa a problem but they are starting to look tired now.

Laughable that anyone would call for Potter's head. Same people who moan managers don’t get enough time. These are the same players that let down Lampard and Tuchel, so why bin Potter? Give him longer than five months to straighten them out then let him build a team. The amount of pressure being put on his job from the outside is a joke!

Tim, patient CFC fan with a brain.

No pride, no passion, no effort, the players stopped playing for TT and now looks the same with GP which we all know means normally means one answer.

  14. Postpublished at 17:48 Greenwich Mean Time 8 January 2023

Encouragement for the League Two club as they win a corner. It is floated in by Jake Reeves who picks out Carl Piergianni but he cannot get his header on target.

Approaching the hour mark and Stevenage are remain very much alive in this tie. Steve Evans is in deep discussion with his backroom staff. Changes coming up?

Joe: Not nice to say, but Chelsea and manager Graham Potter look out of their depth here. The owner had a very decent manager, and didn't stick with him. The consequences are there for all to see because the 'effort' from Chelsea has been lamentable.

Ben: Guus Hiddink as caretaker manager for the rest of the season again?

  18. Postpublished at 17:45 Greenwich Mean Time 8 January 2023

    Man City 3-0 Chelsea

Rodri gets a yellow card, catching and fouling Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount.

From the free-kick Mason gets a shooting chance, goes across goal but it takes a deflection off a City defender with Stefan Ortega making sure by pushing it wide.

That's Chelsea's first shot and first corner, although it comes to nothing.

Good work by Leon Bailey to find Danny Ings inside the box but he gets his feet in a tangle and is quickly crowded out. That was a great opportunity to double the lead.
