Sho: Would be so stupid but Chelsea are gonna sack Potter. The culture of the club and their fans just won't accept him. Would be better to overhaul their horrific squad and trust in the manager but Chelsea don't work like that.

Steven: If you were to blame Potter for this mess, you would be wrong. It's someone else's team (which didn't play for them either), same egos, you can't blame Potter for that. You can't expect instant results with these players and if you do, it's extremely naive. He's barely had any time. Did he even approve or want the two new signings they have?

    Man City 3-0 Chelsea

Riyad Mahrez was superb in the first half and tries to find Julian Alvarez but there's just a bit too much power on the pass and Chelsea can shield it out for a goal kick.

    Aston Villa 1-0 Stevenage

Philippe Coutinho is really not having a good time. He's wasted a couple of chances and now he's down in the box appealing for a penalty after a challenge by Carl Piergianni. Play on, says referee Graham Scott.

Zahi: If the score gets any bigger then it won’t matter it’s Man City. Potter is getting sacked in the morning.

Sid: Feel for Potter he looks out of sorts really too much of a task for him. I think Tuchel should be given another go at CFC.

Neil: I'm not a Chelsea fan, but if I was I'd be a bit bewildered in the sacking of Tuchel to what I'm seeing now. Unless of course you buy into Project Potter, which needs at least another 12 months.

A shot on target would be nice for Chelsea. Some sign of progression. Something that shows they are not here just to get beat.

You have to turn up and show what you are about, especially when you are wearing that Chelsea shirt. Not enough of them did that in the first half.

Much more like it from Villa. They're come storming out of the blocks, with Philippe Coutinho having a goal-bound shot blocked and Leon Bailey sending another attempt wide.

  9. SUBSTITUTIONSpublished at 17:36 Greenwich Mean Time 8 January 2023

    Man City 3-0 Chelsea

Graham Potter has had to do something at half-time and he's made two changes. It's a debut for forward David Fofana, with Kai Havertz, who gifted Manchester City the second goal with a terrible decision to concede a penalty, going off.

The other change is Mateo Kovacic off, Denis Zakaria on.

  10. KICK-OFFpublished at 17:34 Greenwich Mean Time 8 January 2023

    Aston Villa 1-0 Stevenage

Villa are 45 minutes from a first FA Cup win for seven years. Will they get the job done? Back under way.

    HT: Man City 3-0 Chelsea

    Izzy Christiansen
Everton and England midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

I saw elements of play from Chelsea in the earlier stages of the first half that suggested there was a plan.

That just capitulated after 1-0. At 1-0 you are still in the game. But at 2-0, against Manchester City, who are ruthless, you've got absolutely no chance of getting back into the game.

Matt: At this rate Chelsea should have hired Harry Potter instead!

Ben: It looks like the new Chelsea owners will need to spend another £300mil odd to steady the ship!

Tim: Chelsea have injury problems and have lacked a cutting edge for 2-3 seasons, but they are much worse under Potter. He's just miles out of his depth, never coached international players in a team that should be winning. Sadly he needs to go.

  13. 'Damage limitation for Chelsea'published at 17:28 Greenwich Mean Time 8 January 2023

    HT: Man City 3-0 Chelsea

    Micah Richards
Former England defender on BBC One

It's just about pride. You look at what Man City can bring off the bench.

It is just about damage limitation, make sure they don't take the mick out of you and do the best that you can. They have got to get into a shape and try and play on the counter.

  14. 'Stevenage have caused problems'published at 17:27 Greenwich Mean Time 8 January 2023

    HT: Aston Villa 1-0 Stevenage

    Dion Dublin
Former England striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

As long as Stevenage don't give away the second goal, they have every chance to pull it back.

What they have shown is very good. They have played some good balls in the box and caused problems.

They will be disappointed to be 1-0 down but should be happy with the way they have performed. Fans will be pleased too. There is still something in this game for them.

RealAleScouser: I was thinking Potter would be sacked before Christmas, might not make the end of the season.

Stavros: Worst footballing decision of 2022 (and maybe of the century):Sacking Thomas Tuchel.

Guardiola needs massive praise because we mentioned the players who weren't starting, Haaland, De Bruyne, whoever it may be. They can come into this system and are able to adapt to it so quickly.

I just think, as a team, what they have done from the academy all the way to the first time is just brilliant.

  19. 'Man City have been fantastic'published at 17:23 Greenwich Mean Time 8 January 2023

    HT: Man City 3-0 Chelsea

    Alan Shearer
Former England striker on BBC One

Manchester City have been fantastic in every single position. They have dominated all over the pitch and been sensational.

From a Chelsea point of view, that is not acceptable that performance. I said they needed some energy, character, all of those things.

I don't care how many injuries you've got in your team, you can still go out and put a shift in. They haven't and it's embarrassing from their point of view.

  20. 'Played off the park'published at 17:23 Greenwich Mean Time 8 January 2023

    HT: Man City 3-0 Chelsea

    Izzy Christiansen
Everton and England midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

It's going to be a difficult scene inside that Chelsea dressing room at half-time - 3-0 down in an FA Cup tie, been played off the park for the majority of that first half.

The manager is under pressure, the team is not performing, a lot of changes in the squad, there are going to be a lot of harsh words.
