Brilliant play from Forest, Yates cuts it back to Gibbs-White. He just hits a wonderful strike off the underside of the crossbar. Brilliant technique from Gibbs-White and it just bounces outside.

Forest are having a good spell here. They have looked full of energy since the half-time break. A cross from the left isn't dealt with by Chelsea's defence and it falls to Serge Aurier, who snaps at it and pings it way over the bar and into the stands.

Good atmosphere in here at the City Ground. The crowd are starting to lift and get off their seats.

  4. HITS THE WOODWORKpublished at 17:42 Greenwich Mean Time 1 January 2023

    Nottingham Forest 0-1 Chelsea

WOW. This would have been something! Ryan Yates puls it back to Morgan Gibbs-White and he hits it so sweetly on the half-volley. It pings off the woodwork twice, with Kepa beaten, before bounces harmlessly away from the six-yard area.

Aurier is getting forward and being more attack-minded. Suddenly we are seeing him in that Chelsea half causing a few problems.

    Nottingham Forest 0-1 Chelsea

Cezar Azpilicueta catches Renan Lodi late near the touchline and now it's Forest who have a free-kick.

Chelsea set-up with a high line and Thiago Silva gets his head to it first under pressure from Taiwo Awoniyi.

Remo Freuler fouls Christian Pulisic on the left, grabbing him back and getting some feedback from Marc Cucurella about it.

That's exactly what Nottingham Forest wanted, for Johnson to be one on one with Azpilicueta.

He went for the shot and tries to be greedy when he could have squared it to Awoniyi and Kepa makes an easy save.

  9. CLOSE!published at 17:37 Greenwich Mean Time 1 January 2023

    Nottingham Forest 0-1 Chelsea

Morgan Gibbs-White slides a lovely ball through to Brennan Johnson and his pace takes him away. He gets into the box and has enough power on his strike but the angle favours Kepa. Taiwo Awoniyi wanted it squared to him in the middle and is furious!

    Nottingham Forest 0-1 Chelsea

Christian Pulisic is caught by Serge Aurier so it's a chance for Mason Mount to whip in a free-kick.

He curls it in from the left but Aurier heads it clear.

Much better from Forest, who go direct through the middle. It comes to Taiwo Awoniyi at a tight angle in the box and he spins, shooting it first time, but it's comfortable for Kepa.

  13. 'The players show commitment'published at 17:29 Greenwich Mean Time 1 January 2023

    FT: Tottenham 0-2 Aston Villa

    Aston Villa

Aston Villa manager Unai Emery speaking to the BBC: "We were thinking yesterday only about our target to win. Top six, against Tottenham away that was our challenge. We worked defensively with very good attitude and trying to keep the moment.

"Spurs were pushing us and we had options in the attacking third and that was good for our confidence in the team. Adding three more points was fantastic."

On Douglas Luiz and Boubacar Kamara starting together in midfield: "Luiz and Kamara is a good combination because they are understanding better step by step. To mix both of them is fantastic. Their performance today was fantastic to help us to win."

On Emi Buendia's performance: "Buendia has to do his way [to play for Argentina]. His performance was fantastic as well. Argentina won the World Cup and he is so happy and he has to take the challenge in the next years to get into his national team as well and he is working for it. We want to help him to improve with us and then he can go forward with his national team."

On working with the Villa players: "Everyday when we are working, the players show me very good attitude and commitment. They show today how they can run, be together, be disciplined together tactically and use our skills. This victory today shows it."

Chelsea are unbeaten in their last 11 English Premier League matches when leading at half-time (W8, D3) dating back to 4th December 2021 against West Ham United (L2-3).

Nottingham Forest have failed to score a first-half goal in 12 of their 17 games, no team has failed to do so more often in the English Premier League this season.

  16. 'Comfortable for Chelsea'published at 17:24 Greenwich Mean Time 1 January 2023

    HT: Nottingham Forest 0-1 Chelsea

    Charlie Adam
Ex-Rangers midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

It's been comfortable for Chelsea in terms of possession. They would have liked to hurt Nottingham Forest more but they have thoroughly deserved their one-goal lead.

Can they do better? Yes. But I don't see Nottingham Forest causing Chelsea any problems.

We'll see what Graham Potter can do at half time.

Chelsea had almost 80% possession in that half but the majority of it took place in midfield in a pretty scrappy and physical game.

The Blues have had five shots inside the box - two on target - the same amount as Forest.

But the hosts have struggled to keep the ball in Chelsea's half, with only 39 passes over the halfway line. Chelsea have had 215.

  18. HALF-TIMEpublished at 17:17 Greenwich Mean Time 1 January 2023

    Nottingham Forest 0-1 Chelsea

Not the most memorable 45 minutes but Chelsea are ahead thanks to a simple tap-in from Raheem Sterling.

    Forest have work to do.

  20. 'Zakaria impressing for Chelsea'published at 17:14 Greenwich Mean Time 1 January 2023

    Nottingham Forest 0-1 Chelsea

    Charlie Adam
Ex-Rangers midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

I've been impressed with Zakaria, he has been mobile and athletic. He's gone after it. Yates has been aggressive against him but Zakaria has not got involved.

He is showing some nice touches and is a talent who can play in this Chelsea team going forward.
