    Nottingham Forest 0-1 Chelsea

That could be a big goal for Sterling in terms of his confidence. It's important that he goes and finds his form. He had a quiet World Cup by his standards but good for him to go and get that goal.

    Nottingham Forest 0-1 Chelsea

A blow to Forest to concede that goal when they had created some decent chances. The game has been quite open though and both teams have been able to get in behind the defences. Chelsea, though fortunate in the way the goal fell, have been a threat.

  3. 'Sterling knocks it in'published at 16:48 Greenwich Mean Time 1 January 2023

That's what happens, the game changes so quickly in the Premier League. Kai Havertz gets across Boly, he flicks it with his heel and it goes off the top of the bar, comes out to Sterling and he knocks it into the net.

    Havertz meant that.

    Raheem Sterling (15 mins)

Christian Pulisic's cross is flicked up and off the cross bar - it looked like it was Willy Boly with the final touch, though Kai Havertz was nearby - and the rebound falls straight to Raheem Sterling to fire into an empty net from close range.

  7. 'The league will be difficult for us'published at 16:41 Greenwich Mean Time 1 January 2023

    FT: Tottenham 0-2 Aston Villa

    Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte speaking to the BBC:

"In the first half we played with good intensity. We didn't concede anything and we found a team that defended too deep and then we conceded this goal and then the confidence dropped for my players.

"We have to know that our life is this. We have to fight every game for one point or for three points. This is the truth, especially when you are without two or three important players and have difficulties.

"We have different characteristics. We don't have many players who are really good to beat the man. We don't have many creative players in our team. For sure today was really difficult to find space in the first half.

"I'm sure that if we don't concede the goal, we could win the game instead. The goal that we conceded killed us in confidence and in many situations for sure. You have to try and improve and develop these players and especially young players to be even stronger."

On conceding first again: "We have conceded the first goal and for sure we try to play to score goals. There is an opponent like you that can score during the game. We understand very well that the league will be really really difficult for us.

"We have to try to recover all the [injured] players and then we have to know that in every game we have to fight and show that we are strong. The league will be very difficult for us.

"I want to be honest, I want to be very clear. I have said this to the club, I have said my opinions. The fans deserve the best. Maybe to stay in 5th is the best. Maybe 6th, 7th, 5th or 4th is the best."

  8. CLOSE!published at 16:41 Greenwich Mean Time 1 January 2023

Thiago Silva picks out Kai Havertz, who has made a run in behind the defence, but his first touch is heavy.

Forest then break through the centre and Brennan Johnson is clean through one-on-one with Kepa.

His first effort is straight at the keeper and he can't get enough power on the rebound! What a HUGE chance for Forest to go 1-0 up.

  11. 'We competed vey well'published at 16:36 Greenwich Mean Time 1 January 2023

    FT: Tottenham 0-2 Aston Villa

    Aston Villa

Aston Villa manager Unai Emery speaking to Sky Sports: "We are so happy. I think we competed very well. We struggled in the first half but they didn't create many chances.

"We scored one goal which gave us confidence to move ahead in our mentality. We scored the second goal which was amazing because in that moment we thought the three points were for us.

"Not only mentality, you have to defend away usually more than at home.We have to build a team thinking that we can control the game. Defensively we were strong and together. We can be brilliant and then keep possession when we have chances to try to win the match. To try to improve different things tactically, I will do it.

"Spurs had some chances, not a lot but they created in the attacking third. Olsen as well after the performance with his clean sheet. Not just in Emi Martinez but also with Olsen we have good goalkeepers. It is good to add confidence in the team and the players."

  18. 'Forest don't have enough threat'published at 16:23 Greenwich Mean Time 1 January 2023

Nottingham Forest v Chelsea (16:30 GMT)

Chelsea got a much-needed win over Bournemouth last time out, and they deserved it too.

Nottingham Forest huffed and puffed a bit against Manchester United without ever really looking like they would get anything out of the game.

Chelsea's biggest issue this season has been goalscoring but Forest have got bigger problems in that department and they don't have enough of a threat up front.

It feels like Forest's hopes of staying up rest on their home form, because they are so poor away, but I can't see them picking up any points this time. I'm going for a narrow Chelsea win.

    Prediction: 1-2

  19. 'We want a reaction to Man Utd performance'published at 16:21 Greenwich Mean Time 1 January 2023

Nottingham Forest v Chelsea (16:30 GMT)

    Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest boss Steve Cooper, speaking to Sky Sports: "We have to create that atmosphere first. We do get a good atmosphere here when we show good commitment and spirit and if we do that we get good support. We need to do that to do well in the game and that really is where the start is.

"I've said that since I've come to the club. We have to do our bit on the pitch. We want a reaction to the performance at Manchester United - it was always going to be a tough game but we came off the pitch, that it was a missed opportunity, but that we could have believed in ourselves a bit more and taken the game to them a bit more.

"He [Morgan Gibbs-White] was in great form before the break and he was looking strong on the return. We always thought he'd be fit for today so there has been a strong plan for that and let's hope he plays well!"
