  1. goal

GOAL - Southampton 0-1 Nottm Forestpublished at 19:57 Greenwich Mean Time 4 January 2023

    Taiwo Awoniyi (27 mins)

A huge goal at the bottom of the table!

A mistake by Lyanco is pounced upon by Brennan Johnson and he races towards the box before squaring for Taiwo Awoniyi to tap in and give the visitors the lead.

It is only Forest's second away goal of the season, but it could be a massive goal in their survival bid.

Declan Rice has a cut to the inside of his ear as a result of that challenge from Rodrigo.

The West Ham skipper is lucky. Rodrigo didn't put any force behind his challenge and there was no intent but a few centimetres the other way and Rice could have been in trouble.

Emiliano Martinez is out early here at Villa Park, his World Cup winners' medal around his neck and Golden Gloves trophy in his hand.

It's a quick lap of honour and then back down the tunnel. He'll be out again in a few seconds with the rest of the players.

History has been made with Bhupinder Singh Gill becoming the first Sikh-Punjabi to serve as an assistant referee at a Premier League match at tonight's game at St Mary's.

The 37-year-old, who qualified as a referee at the age of 14, said earlier that he hoped to inspire the future generation.

“My dream has always been to reach the top of the game, be a role model for future officials and encourage more people from diverse backgrounds into officiating, especially from a South Asian background just like me," he said.

  6. YELLOW CARDpublished at 19:54 Greenwich Mean Time 4 January 2023

    Leeds 0-0 West Ham

Declan Rice is down and hurt. The reason is that Rodrigo, in trying to control the ball, caught the West Ham skipper in the face as he stooped to head.

It results in a yellow for the Leeds forward.

    Glenn Murray
Former Crystal Palace striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

This is just typical Antonio Conte. We've seen it at Inter, we've seen it at Chelsea. It never seems to end well. At Inter I think there were rows over financial backing and eventually he walked. At Chelsea his time was full of rows.

It's a poor defensive header from Leeds but the offside flag spares Scamacca's blushes.

For a second it looks like Gianluca Scamacca is in!

A poor Leeds defensive header sets him away, but he delays his shot and when it does come it is blocked. Not that it would have mattered as the flag was up.

Mohamed Elyounoussi is fouled by Ryan Yates 25 yards from goal and Southampton have a free kick in prime James Ward-Prowse territory.

Saints fans clap with anticipation but Ward-Prowse sends the ball over the bar, prompting relieved cheers from the away end.

There was spontaneous applause from fans of both sides when the stadium announcer offered sympathy to West Ham over the passing of joint-chairman David Gold.

A bunch of flowers is on the seat he would have been sat in.

  13. Conte doesn't know when Kulusevski will be backpublished at 19:48 Greenwich Mean Time 4 January 2023

Crystal Palace v Tottenham (20:00 GMT)

    Tottenham Hotspur

Spurs boss Antonio Conte: "Our expectation is to have a good reaction. In my opinion the performance [against Villa] was not so negative.

"Our target is to start well and to play football. Create chances, don't concede a goal. This is our idea about this game.

"We didn't have a slow start against Aston Villa. Fom the first minute we started well."

On when Dejan Kulusevski will return: "I don't know. The medical department gave the possibility to play with us. Today they said he's not available. I don't know how close he is to coming back with us."

On picking Oliver Skipp: "There were two options - Skippy and Pape Sarr, two really good prospects for the future but players we need to play now to help the team to get a good result. In this case I prefer to pick Skippy because he played many games last season with Hojbjerg. I know I can count on Sarr."

First Leeds attack yields a corner, but it could have been more.

Rodrigo is away but Nayef Aguerd is back at him quickly to slide in and put the ball behind. Rodrigo went to ground but there were only hopeful penalty shouts from the optimists in the crowd.

"We have quality, we have talent, we know how we want to play. The challenge is to be consistent.

"When you're looking at Spurs' last couple of games, they conceded the first goal. Some of the games they came back. There is a character and a talent in their team. We have to be focused and play the best we can."

  16. Contract problems between Conte and boardpublished at 19:47 Greenwich Mean Time 4 January 2023

Crystal Palace v Tottenham (20:00 GMT)

    Michael Brown
Former Manchester City midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

It's just very very strange. Listening to the situation the word I took from that is the problem is between me and the football club regarding the contact.

The players aren't performing, they aren't getting the results that we would normally expect and slightly mixed messages from the manager as well. He talks about the project he's looking to build. How can he build that if he's looking to leave at the end of the season?

    Huge chance for Nottingham Forest!

They've been very quiet so far but their first attack almost produces a goal as a nice move involving Taiwo Awoniyi and Ryan Yates ends with Brennan Johnson smashing a shot against the crossbar.

A big let off for Southampton.
