Andy: Spurs have a great manager. They don't have any visible investment in the squad. Do they have the available finances to invest this transfer window? They need serious reinforcements and they won't come cheap. Sacking the manager will just waste more time and money.

  2. HALF-TIMEpublished at 20:48 Greenwich Mean Time 4 January 2023

    Crystal Palace 0-0 Tottenham

It is goalless at the break with Tottenham once again offering very little in attack.

  3. HALF-TIMEpublished at 20:47 Greenwich Mean Time 4 January 2023

    Aston Villa 0-1 Wolves

Advantage to Wolves in this midlands derby between the Premier League's two most recent Spanish managerial appointments.

Wolves have staged a fine away display so far. Stubborn at one end, ruthless at the other when needed.

Some boos from the home fans.

    Southampton 0-1 Nottm Forest

A little bit better from Southampton but promising moves fall apart once they get into the final third. Lyanco tries to make something happen with a couple of long throws into the box but they are easy pickings for the Forest defence.

    Aston Villa 0-1 Wolves

It has been a very frustrating half for Villa.

Their ire is peaked again as Matheus Nunes goes down off the ball to halt the game as they were looking to take a quick throw.

The Wolves player gets a bit of treatment and is then ushered off the field to get a bit more patching up.

Graham: Southampton look even worse now than they did before they sacked Ralph Hassenhuttl and replaced him with Nathan Jones. Makes you wonder if another Saints’ sacking is on the cards this season.

    Southampton 0-1 Nottm Forest

You can't begrudge Nathan Jones for taking an opportunity to manage in the Premier League but this was a tough job the former Luton boss walked into with confidence clearly rock bottom.

Lyanco tries to make something happen with a run down the right but then runs out of space as he tries to get round the full-back.

  10. PENALTY APPEALpublished at 20:40 Greenwich Mean Time 4 January 2023

    Crystal Palace 0-0 Tottenham

Eberechi Eze is onto a loose ball before charging into the area. He goes down inside the box with Oliver Skipp in close attention. Palace fans scream for a penalty but nothing is given.

Still, more concern for Tottenham with how easy Eze was able to glide through their midfield and defence there.

    Aston Villa 0-1 Wolves

Ollie Watkins against Nathan Collins in pursuit of a long ball forward from Villa.

Anon: Hate to say it after so few games but If Southampton lose against Forest I think Jones should go so we still have time to get an experienced manager in and get us out this mess!!!!

Tom: In contrast to my brother (Peter), I remain optimistic that saints can turn this season around. It's a young team and just needs some momentum and luck.

Simon: Game started quite even. Spurs just shading it but now Palace all over them. Kane playing poorly doesn't help Spurs.

Anon: Spurs are being outclassed by another mediocre side. It's time for big changes at the top.

Ten minutes to go until the break and Tottenham are pinned back as Crystal Palace win their third corner of the game.

    Aston Villa 0-1 Wolves

Villa are struggling to get a meaningful kick, such is the ferocity of the way Wolves are snapping into tackles.

Villa could do with moving the ball quicker.

Southampton are poor at the back again as a heavy touch by Duje Caleta-Car allows Taiwo Awoniyi to break into space. He decides to shoot early but sends it well over the bar.

All square in this big game at the bottom.
