  1. 'They have changed their style'published at 11:42 Greenwich Mean Time 14 January 2023

Man Utd v Man City (15:00 GMT)

    Manchester City

Manchester City midfielder Kevin de Bruyne to BT Sport: "They've been having a good season and playing good football so it will be tough.

"It's a derby so anything that happened before or after goes through the window as it's a game in itself.

"We didn't play good enough against Southampton and we need to accept it. That doesn't change the rest.

"When you have a schedule like you have the last four games and it's a lot of travelling, it is hard. But I don't think different players change the outcome of the game. We have a good team and we will try to perform as best as we can.

"I think they have changed their style a little bit. In the last few years they were more on the counter-attack but now they play more possession-based football with Erik ten Hag. It will be tough."

Shane O'Neill: Wow. ETH has chosen Shaw at CB over Lisandro, Lindelof, and Maguire. That's brave, but it can only be to try and nullify Haaland's pace.

Nottingham Forest will assess striker Taiwo Awoniyi, who missed the EFL Cup quarter-final win against Wolves.

Neco Williams also missed that tie with a facial injury, while fellow defender Willy Boly was substituted because of an ankle problem and is a doubt.

Leicester will be without midfielders James Maddison and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall but Dennis Praet may return.

Forward Ayoze Perez could miss out after picking up a knock during the midweek cup defeat at Newcastle.

  4. 'The demands are the same'published at 11:37 Greenwich Mean Time 14 January 2023

Man Utd v Man City (12:30 GMT)

    Manchester United

Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes speaking to BT Sport: "Obviously we want to win. Today is a big game and it is about what we can achieve today. We want to achieve a win like we do in every game.

"It's a responsibility to play for this team and the demands are the same in every game. A derby is a different thing but for us the mindset is always the same. We need three points.

"The team has always been confident. We have learned from our past so we have to keep improving and doing the right things."

As a Man Utd fan I don't think we have come far enough to win this game yet. City are still a way ahead but the hype shows other teams and managers are starting to worry. That is a good sign. I agree with Ten Hag, the competition is for 3rd/4th place.

Erik ten Hag's side are nine points behind leaders Arsenal and he says United must prove how far they have come.

They lost 6-3 at the Etihad in October in a humbling defeat.

"We have to prove [how far we've come] on the pitch. There is only one truth and it is always on the pitch," he said.

"It is not coming overnight, there has been a process in the last months where we develop, progress.

"We have to be brave, act with belief and play our game. We took the lesson and from that point on we make huge progress. We have to continue that process."

    Peter Schmeichel
Former Manchester United goalkeeper on BBC Radio 5 Live

I think the significance of the Manchester derby is a lot more now because Manchester City are doing so well.

No disrespect to Manchester City but when I played for Manchester United, they were not the biggest games. They were struggling in the Premier League.

The big games we had was against Liverpool. It was always Liverpool and I found that out on the first day I arrived at the club.

Many are suggesting this could be one of the most evenly-matched Manchester derbies in years.

United have won eight games in a row and could equal their longest winning run in all competitions since Alex Ferguson retired as manager in 2013.

Second-placed City, who are four points above United, lost to Southampton in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday.

"The improvement of [United's] team is clear," said City boss Pep Guardiola earlier this week.

Just nine months ago there were joyous scenes at Goodison Park, a real sense of togetherness and shared elation as Everton secured their Premier League status with a thrilling 3-2 win against Crystal Palace.

Fast forward to now and the frustrations are clear as the Toffees have struggled to kick on from that moment. Today's fixture with fellow strugglers Southampton is a crucial one for the club and manager Frank Lampard, one neither can afford to lose.

Everton fans are unhappy with the club's owners and there is a planned sit-down protest at Goodison Park after today's game as they show their anger at several seasons of struggle, squandered transfer cash and decision-making at board level.
