Newcastle extended their unbeaten run to a club-record 15 top-flight games with their third goalless draw against Crystal Palace this season.

Crystal Palace manager Patrick Vieira, speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "We showed togetherness, discipline and we take the point. I’m really pleased with that.

"We needed to make it really difficult for them at set pieces. With the ball in the air, nine times out of ten they will win it, but we coped quite well."

On Nick Pope's save from Jean-Philippe Mateta: "The top goalkeepers only have one save to make and they make it well. We were unlucky."

On Wilfried Zaha's injury: "When Wilfried comes off from injuries, it can only be not good news because he always wants to carry on and stay on the field."

On potential January acquisitions: "I’m trying to improve the squad. We know the profile of the players that we want. Now it’s in the hands of the club to try and make it happen. The team needs help and I hope we’ll bring those players in."

Newcastle United

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe, speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "All I’d say is that I’m really pleased with the team today. We were ourselves and we had chances, we just didn’t take them.

"There were a lot of half-chance moments and presentable opportunities. A lot of moments where we didn’t quite get our final ball right.

"We have high expectations of ourselves. It was two teams trying to impose themselves and trying to win. We dominated for long spells, they defended well.

"It’s great commitment from the group. All you can do is sit back every week and be very proud of what they’re delivering.

"Nick Pope made an incredible save which was a big moment in the game. Our two centre-backs [Fabian Schar and Sven Botman] are different in their styles but they compliment each other very well.

"The most important thing is that if you don’t win, you don’t lose."

On trying to strengthen his squad in January: "There are no guarantees, but we are trying."

Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace boss Patrick Vieira speaking to Sky Sports: "We needed to battle and compete; that is what we did. We took a point we deserved. It was difficult to play out from the back in the first half, we were putting pressure on ourselves. When we went long, we couldn't win the second ball. We were starting to lose our confidence.

"Today was about sticking together, fighting and competing. We worked hard and showed what we needed to show today. I'm pleased with that."

Newcastle United

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe to Sky Sports: "Difficult game but we played well. We got into dangerous positions and created chances. We had moments in both halves; if there was a team that was going to win it, I thought it would be us, but we had to credit Nick Pope for a great save. He didn't have a lot to do today. He's been great since he came in and we see that in training every day.

"The changing room is disappointed we didn't win. We wanted more control in the second half; there were moments the ball flashed across the box and nobody was on the end of it. There are things to improve for us, but we are seeing continued improvement. We are not firing as much as we'd like, but we are working on that."

Crystal Palace and Newcastle have now played each other three times in all competitions this season, with all three ending in goalless draws.

Newcastle are unbeaten in their last 15 Premier League games (W9 D6), which is now their longest ever unbeaten run in top-flight history.

Palace have now failed to score in five of their last seven Premier League games.

Crystal Palace and Newcastle United have had a combined 64 shots between them without scoring across their two meetings.

Nick Pope has now kept 12 clean sheets in the Premier League this season, more than he managed in either of his last two campaigns.

David Ozoh made his first Premier League appearance for Crystal Palace at the age of 17 years and 234 days, becoming the youngest player to appear for the Eagles in the competition.

Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace defender Joel Ward speaking to Sky Sports: "It is always going to be a tough game against Newcastle in the form they are in. They possess a lot of threats and we had to nullify that as a team.

"We wanted to exploit the spaces they leave; it makes it difficult when games don't go the way you want. It takes a lot of character to make sure you don't concede when your backs are against the wall and we showed that."

Hopefully not a lengthy injury for this guy.

Newcastle United

Newcastle defender Kieran Trippier, speaking to Sky Sports: "We knew it was going to be difficult. Maybe it’s a missed opportunity because we created chance after chance. I thought we deserved the three points, but it’s a good point here today.

"We’ve taken huge steps in a short period of time. This time last year we were fighting relegation. Everyone in the team has made a huge impact. Long may that continue.

"We’ve all got to be proud of how we’ve played this season, but we haven’t achieved anything yet."

On Newcastle's defensive record: "We work really hard on the training pitch. It starts from the front, we work really hard as a team. It’s a joy to have Popey [Nick Pope] on our team too."

On next week's Carabao Cup semi-final first leg: "Southampton are a top side. We have to go there with that winning mentality."

Newcastle United

Newcastle goalkeeper Nick Pope, speaking to Sky Sports: "It’s not an easy place to come, but we have to back ourselves to take some chances. You can be happy with three-quarters of the pitch, but it’s the opposition box where you should make it count.

"We’re disappointed with today, but when we look back at the first half of the season we can be proud.

"We have to be hungry. We have to have that desire to keep pushing ourselves. That’s going to be important going forward."

On his save, denying Jean-Philippe Mateta: "I didn’t see much of it but luckily I got something on it and managed to tip it over. I’m pleased with it. You train for those split-second moments."

Just listen to the noise in the stadium. That's the home supporters and they are saying to their players 'you gave your all out there.'

They could have won it with the attempt from Jean-Philippe Mateta and it was a world-class save from Nick Pope.

Overall, Newcastle were the better team and looked more threatening. But the worry for them is the lack of goals in the team.

Newcastle's players stand applauding their travelling fans, who are singing heavily as despite the draw, it continues their unbeaten run.

They have set a club top-flight record by remaining unbeaten in 15 consecutive league matches.

Nick Pope has also kept a clean sheet in each of his last nine Newcastle appearances in all competitions.

He has gone 812 competitive minutes without conceding a goal, since Southampton's Romain Perraud scored against him on 6 November.

Subdued reactions at full-time from both managers. Patrick Vieira will no doubt be the happier of the two.

All over at Selhurst Park. Newcastle had chance after chance but didn't make them count. Nick Pope's brilliant save in the second half kept Palace out.

It's great for the young players at the club to see someone make the breakthrough from the academy and youth level into the first-team. There is a pathway available and the manager is not afraid to give David Ozoh an opportunity.
